Hi Adrian, I will be going for the interview tomorrow. Best of luck for both us. Hope there is a chance to see you in person soon! :)
|
Yea I just want to here some cases of Singaporeans with no aviation background getting in....that will be encouraging! Seeing that we can only get in at 26 and all.
|
Probably apply in a year or so after graduation. Really would like to here if there are many non SYFC members getting though if you know of any!
|
@AXeLpro:all the best to you too hope to see you there tomorrow.. by the way what is the time slot for your interview?

My interview quite short.. It took only 15mins... While others like 20-30mins... Any comments?
|

|
oh.. wow Alex 15 mins only? well i guess it's hard to say you never know till you get a reply I'm sure you did just fine though. did they ask you any questions on the type of aircraft they are flying?
|
Looks like SQ has finally moved it's recuritment out of Singapore.
Good luck to all! :ok: |
Hi, just an update. I have just received my email to attend the oct 22 obs. For those who are still waiting, dun give up hope yet. They are still getting pple to attend the obs. All the best for every aspiring cadets here.
@purplehearts: i'm a singaporean, turning 26 in oct. And nope, i'm not from syfc...in fact i have zero piloting experience. Hope tt helps. |
@Alex: not to worry about the duration, it doesnt really matter. I took only 10mins. As long as u perform during the interview, the duration is fine.
|
anyone pls advise me. I attended my 1st round interview last week and i just received an email from edward, i am not successful.
but i did answers all of the questions asked by the panel of 2 interviewer and showed my passion. even talked about all the fleets of SIA and discuss about my point of view for the future aviation industry. did not answer any 'I don't know'. WHAT is the reason they fail me? I am thinking is it because of the eye test. Because I've overlooked the email i thought only those who did lasik need to bring the eye test report. but the officers who check our certs ask me to do it at the clinic just next to the interview room. So i did it and my result is without optical aid 6/9, comment: fit to fly. but the officer told me their requirement for cadet pilot is to meet 6/6 with or without optical aid. and I can submit the report later if I am successful. Did they fail me because I overlooked the isntruction given in the email? I was excited and overlooked the instruction.. or there are some other reason? it's killing me..... I am also a malaysian, that shouldn't be a reason right? |
TzeSan,
How's your Sunday session? I'm from Simpang Ampat, currently working in Penang island. Let me know how it goes, we'll probably bump into each other in Sg. Cheers, StevieRay |

Get on with life n apply again 6months later if u're still keen |
Hey Kawazoe, like what Stallone said, you'll never know why you failed to get selected. All you can do is find reasons to satisfy your own curiosity as to why you failed.
You overlooked the eye checkup and assumed it was for lasik candidates only. The reality of this industry can be real harsh. A little mistake there. But there might not be a 2nd chance in flight if you overlooked something. Look on the bright side, re-apply again! :O It's not the end. Good luck! ;) |
For those Singaporeans who got into Oct 22 OBS, may i do a straw poll on your age.
Are you, a) below 25 yrs old b) 25 above but yet to reach 25.5 yrs old c) 25.5 yrs but yet to reach 26 yrs old d) 26 and above by the time you go for Oct 22 OBS? I'm trying to find out if sia only takes in ppl after a certain age. Thanks in advance for those who participate. =) |
thanks stallone & drareg,
I guess that might be one of the reason. I overlooked things. Pilots should be observant and there would be no 2nd chance during emergencies.. feel really suck.... I guess i'll just move on, do a lot of self improvements and reapply.... |
Hi kawazoe,
I had a friend who also did his eye test at the centre but still manage to get through the first and second rounds of interview. It may be that you have overlooked this but it's only one factor. Don't give up hope! Personally, I feel the interview play a bigger role for selection. More importantly, reflect on your interview on how it went. Think of how you can better present your points as well as yourself when the opportunity next arises. Look through this whole thread but focus more on the recent posts. Lots of info to be gained and I hope it will come in handy when you re-apply. Best of luck, d1ce |
@d1ce, i satisfy option d...hope the info helps :ok:
|
Hi D1ce,
No reply from them yet? How old are you at the moment? 1 of my friend is 26 by the time he go for OBS and the other more than 25.5 during OBS. Hope it helps. |
@noonboy, NerAz, zpliu, thanks for sharing!
@NerAz: I'm currently 25 yrs 1 mths. yup, i'm still waiting for their reply. |

|

|
@d1ce: Icic, im 25 yrs 5months and waited for 3 months. Let's keep each other update of any reply from them.
|
@neraz, 3 mths are very long. Hope that u will receive a positive reply from them :ok:
|
Hi all,
congrats to all those who received the confirmations. Anyway I am Singaporean above 26 when i'm attending OBS. 21days for old legs like me is going to be tough man. |
Here are a few tips when going for the interviews:
1) Please bring your own pen for interviews so you don't have to trouble anyone to borrow one. It is one of the little things that show much about your personal responsibility. 2) Be very familiar what are the entry criteria and make sure you satisfy them before you apply, e.g. 1.65m, visual acuity and min 5 O'Levels, etc. 3) For the eye checkup, you should provide an eye exam report from your doctor stating your unaided and aided visual acuity and colour vision (Ishihara or Snellen's chart tests). Don't forget these or else you may have to go for another eye exam in the clinic next door to the interview rooms (more $$$ and hassle). Just a little more explanation on what all these eye business means... note that they are very strict on eyesight requirements and will turn you away if you do not meet those requirements. For those who do not wear glasses ('perfect eyesight'), your visual acuity should be 6/6 (or 6/5 or 6/4). This is termed unaided visual acuity. For those who wear glasses, you should provide both your unaided and aided visual acuity. For unaided acuity (not wearing glasses), you should be 6/60 or better. For aided acuity (wearing glasses), you should be 6/6 or better (e.g. if you are 6/9 with your glasses on, you should probably re-fit a new pair of glasses so that you are 6/6). You should know your astigmatism too and it should not be more than 125 degrees. For those who have done Lasik, the pre-Lasik myopia should not be more than 500 degrees and your Lasik operation should be at least 6 months or more ago. Myopia of not more than 500 degrees and astigmatism of not more than 125 degrees, fully correctable with optical aids. Visual acuity of at least 6/60, correctable to 6/6. For candidates who have undergone corrective eye surgery (e.g. Lasik), the pre-surgical visual acuity should also meet the above requirements 5) There is a culture of courtesy in the company so just be polite, smile and greet everyone you meet. |
Will your GPA in poly affect your chances?

Oct 22nd Lumut Batch
Hey guys,
This is the list compiled to date accurate to my knowledge. Pls feel free to highlight any errors. Looking at the numbers, its a good sign of SQ ramping up its recruitment and hopefully this will translate to shorter training time as well. For those still waiting for a reply, pls do not give up. "hanging in there" is in my opinion the essence of pilot training! :ok: 1. nineh (myself) 2. fizmy 3. NerAz's Fren 4. NerAz's Fren 5. Anoop 6. Anoop's Fren 7. Zpliu 8. Dx69Ihh 9. Enegue 10. Enegue's Fren 11. Enegue's Fren 12. SteviRay 13. joshielim 14. noonboy 15. dx69lhh (Names in bold are tentatively OK for meet up.) So Course 158 (apparently so), anyone interested for coffee/beer/food/etc on Monday 11th Oct ?? This is a non-obligatory invite for a chat over coffee. Personal intro cum discussion on stuff like what to bring/expect at OBS etc. We can prob arrange to meet up in the evening, at a central location convenient for all. Those whom are interested, kindly indicate on the above list and PM me with your contact as well. We can then correspond to finalise the plan. Suggestions for time and place of meet up are most welcome! :) NerAz, Anoop, Drareg and Enegue, pls pass the msg to ur frens if you dun mind. Cheers |
Thanks for the advice and Gd luck!!

Age requirements - SIA Cadet Pilots
Dear all,
Understand that SIA's policy on age is a minimum of 26 years old. I will be 33 by the end of this year and residing in Hong Kong. Applied on SIA's website and was rejected. Is there a maximum age limit? Or residing overseas will affect my chances? Cheers, MT |
@zpliu: Hi bro...Regarding form80... we can get it from the aussie website... I had the same doubt.. It appears that the SFC people will be briefing us on this on the 21st.. so don worry about it.. ;)
