I'm flying as a hobby now, paying to fly thus I can't fly alot as it quite ex. But once u start flying u can't really stop as they say. Though I wished what u say was true.

Second interview questions is tailored according to each individual, most people have atleast one tech question. But shd nt be too hard, duration of interview is not a indicator. I went in for 30mins still failed.

I gt alot of support and help from this forum, and here I wish all aspiring sia cadets all the best!! Giving up commercial aviation for awhile to focus on upgrading my ppl !!

Kurai 8th Sep 2011 16:40

LOL, the power of love!

yannisoar 9th Sep 2011 04:03

anyone knows how many OBS courses are scheduled per year by SIA?

bloodsucker 9th Sep 2011 12:57

@Stallone That pilot oughta been sacked! My goodness a breach in security and he got away with $600 fine?? =.=

Stallone 9th Sep 2011 13:17

how do you know he wasn't sacked by SIA?

that's the sentence given by the judge in the court of law

it didn't say what else SIA did to him

He did a mistake by changing into civilian uniform.

Actually, that day unlucky day. Somebody reported him.

Those Airport staffs, cleaners, ICA and CISCO officers off duty also send off their friends/relatives right to the gate. How come they never get caught?

Fictionaire 9th Sep 2011 17:39

Sit test.?

Hi guys, just want to ask if there are any situational test during the interview process? ie in groups of 6, discuss about an aviation problem and do somesorta presentation?

yannisoar 10th Sep 2011 01:17

Hi Fictionaire,

in the past it seems like they do have it but more recently, i guess they’ve removed this component.

correct me if I’m wrong on this PPRuNer’s :)

Steed45 12th Sep 2011 16:37

The sit test was removed a couple of years ago, confirmed. One less item to worry about.

Kurai 15th Sep 2011 02:27

Recieved call from SIA and confirmation early this morning. Scheduled for 7th October but i can't make it, need to work till end of Oct. Hopefully they will slot me in for the next course.

bloodsucker 15th Sep 2011 03:11

What are u scheduled for, kurai? U cleared everything already right? Were you referring to OBS?

Kurai 15th Sep 2011 05:05

yes cleared everything and scheduled for OBS.

nickings 15th Sep 2011 06:37

hey everyone, actually i was just wondering, just how seriously is it that SIA takes age into consideration? i know that the agreement with RSAF is that we singaporeans need to be at least 26, but from what i see and hear, it seems to be more on a case by case basis and the usual age at entry to OBS is 25+.

i went for my medical on 5th Aug (called CAMB 2 weeks later to confirm that i cleared it) and have been waiting ever since. my friend who's 26 this year got his call last week. i just turned 25 at the end of Aug, and some friends have been telling me that usually they take cadets in at age 25yrs and 3mths old.

now im just praying that age really is the only consideration left that's preventing me from starting. tried emailing HR but no reply (obviously). had a friend who cleared medical but got cut before even getting his OBS date. anyone with any opinions on this matter?

2nd Timer (First Interview)

Went for the first interview again yesterday. My last one was on 18th March.

My appointment was at 9.45am, however, I only got to be interviewed at about 12.05pm. There were many people waiting.

The interviewer did not ask me the usual question of Tell us about yourself, why you want to be pilot etc.

He went straight to the point and asked me about my work. What I have done (for aviation) since my last interview. Some geography and also the name of the new budget airline by SIA (Skoot).

I wasn't clear with the answers for some questions. I hope I do not get any email from them on Monday. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Dmits 19th Sep 2011 04:15

Hi Johnny, were the usual questions asked during your first time interview with them then?

Johnny632 21st Sep 2011 15:35

Usual Questions?

erm, which type of usual questions?

The first time I was there, they asked me about my self and why I want to be a pilot. Current affairs and geography.

The second I was there, they cut straight to the point. Geography, what I have done for the past 6 mths etc...

But I still didn't make it, hence, you should not place too much emphasis on my interview.

purplehearts 22nd Sep 2011 06:05

Hi Johnny did you ever get to the 2nd interview?

Johnny632 25th Sep 2011 06:48

No. I didn't make it through again.

:ugh:

hizami14 on twitter 25th Sep 2011 22:48

when??

went for medical on 9th Sept, when do u think will get the news? and is it only via phone? not through email?

Dmits 26th Sep 2011 04:15

Johnny, just keep on trying.

Dmits 28th Sep 2011 05:26

Just wondering, recent 2nd interview batches, how many on average got through to medical stage?

nickings 28th Sep 2011 05:32

mmm well mine was just about over a month back, and 3 out of the 8 of us managed it to the medical. but i think a few others were told that they were under review, perhaps because of their age. so, perhaps 4 out of 8? all the best!

Dmits 29th Sep 2011 09:42

Great thanks just like to have a feel.. for myself I was rejected after waiting for two weeks after first interview. All the best to your trainings upcoming!!

Taeyang 29th Sep 2011 13:53

Hi guys! i'm new to this forum... I'm so glad that i found this forum!!!!

Can i check with you guys does anyone know the currency(Flying hours) for RSAF to SIA? I'm a RSAF pilot trainee now getting my wing very soon and will be flying KC-135.

After my service with RSAF i hope to transit over to SIA(Hope my CO don see this!!!:p). From what i know they will only take 3/4 of your flying hrs. CAn anyone enlighten me?

Thanks alot

mynameisjon 29th Sep 2011 22:51

Hi Taeyang, congrats on getting into RSAF!

Regarding the conversion, you would do well to go to the CAAS website to read the Air Safety Publications (regs) on conversion etc.

IIRC, you need 700 hours TT to convert, which I'm sure you'll have by then. Plus the fact that you're flying a "transport type" aircraft rather than a single engine fighter jet, you're in good shape!

overmars 30th Sep 2011 05:00

Taeyang,

We've got a KC135 pilot with us in SQ. He is so senior we all call him Uncle. But, he's is on the right hand seat. And after a few years of jumping through lots of hoops, he is finally put on the command programme.

Dmits 30th Sep 2011 07:33

all these KC 135 talk, can only make me envious.. I don't even have an interview.. hahahaa

Taeyang 30th Sep 2011 13:40

mynameisjon, thanks for the info.. 700hrs, hope by that time i should have enough hrs and not stuck in the office doing paper work!

overmars- i think i know who you talking about cause i and one of my senior was chating about jumping over to SIA in the future and we got one pilot from SIA back for reservice!!!

Dmits - WHy? i did lots of interview until i pass and got inside. Just try and try and one day you will get it!

yannisoar 30th Sep 2011 13:42

Taeyang - Lots of interviews? does RSAF allow you to try more than once?

Dmits - Like what you said earlier on, just kee trying :ok:

Taeyang 30th Sep 2011 13:52

Yes, i failed once and i went again and again. You have to be really thick skin to keep calling them and ask for reschedule. Alot of people think that you can only try once but the fact is you can keep trying. The compass test you take is vaild for 3 years. I called them until they know its me the moment they hear my voice. I did about 7 interview before i was accepted.

My education is really not that good but its the passion you show them that you really want to become a pilot and i think that make them accept me.

zlct 30th Sep 2011 16:30

Hi taeyang!

thanks for sharing with us your journey to RSAF! It is very inspiring. I hope you can advise me applying for the RSAF.

I applied to join the RSAF back when i was a recruit in 2008, but i failed to make the cut for it. Right now, as i am in the midst of my university education, i realized that the only thing that i want to do in future is to fly. So i tried to call RSAF to see if i could apply again and this was when i found out that my COMPASS test results in 2008 qualified me for the WSO fighter only. However, as my COMPASS test results are 3 years old, they have expired and i can take another test.

I would like to know if one fails to make the cut for RSAF as a pilot in the COMPASS test, does he automatically qualify for WSO Fighter? and, is the RSAF COMPASS test more stringent? if i make the cut for WSO in my compass test, is it safe to say that i should be able to pass the compass test in SIA?

Thank you.

zlct 30th Sep 2011 16:39

Hi nickings,

by any chance, are you the same person that posted a comment on www.hoongji.********.com's post about his alma mater in malaysia?

I too, am from Saint Joseph's Institution, graduating class of 2005.

There is nothing more than i want than a career in flying. unfortunately, i am still stuck in university as i am underaged to apply to join SIA.

If there are any pilots from SJI, hello!

By the way, does anyone here knows how i can go about applying for an internship with SIA? i have scoured the internet for SIA's hr department number or email address but i cannot find it. SIA's recruitment system does not have any offers for internship as well. If anyone knows, please send me a message!

Thank you!

yannisoar 1st Oct 2011 01:14

Taeyang - Thats really is the never giving up spirit I would say....

I'm sure you have inspired many people in this forum including me :)

Thanks Taeyang and all the best for your future endeavors! am sure you will do well :ok:

bloodsucker 1st Oct 2011 04:19

Hi zlct, nice to see another sji old boy around here! Haha what a small world. I'm class of '06. I doubt SIA has any internship. What positions are you looking for?

Taeyang 1st Oct 2011 04:33

zlct - Yes, go and take again and what my Sir told me is that be consistent in the test kind of like "if you plan to be the good guy that give the right politic answer be that guy all the way and if plan to be the bad guy than be the bad guy. Don't be a half half"

From what i know compass test do grade you which vocation you are. ITs what you apply and the interview that grade you.

If you cannot make it for the pilot you can ask for reschedule for WSO fighter interview. The impt thing is to ask if not RSAF will not be bother to do anything for you. Airforce Recruitment Center mostly is handle by Pilot drop out and those waiting to go for air grading, so they are kind of hack care.

SO just call and call> Don say is i teach one. Anything about the interview or you need any help just let me know.

yannisoar - Thanks alot!!!:)

zlct 1st Oct 2011 11:20

Hi bloodsucker,

Nice to meet you, I'm from SJI 403 "05, under lim siew mei!

Anyway, as I am majoring in finance, Im trying to apply
for a position in the finance dept, or hr is fine too! Although my real interest is in flying. Any lobangs :)?

And taeyang, thank you for your advise! One more thing, if I get accepted into RSAF, do I have to pull out from school to fly?

Thanks!

Taeyang 1st Oct 2011 11:49

What do you mean by pulling out from school?:)

yannisoar 1st Oct 2011 12:07

Taeyang I think Zict is trying to say will he need to leave school (as he is currently still studying) to attend the training by RSAF if he is selected. hope this helps

Taeyang 1st Oct 2011 14:12

o ok...:p haha... i think you can let them know that your are studying and they can arrange your AGC on the time you finish your study. BTW zict have you done your compass test, medical and Interview?
