The paper work part is similar to kurai's experience so I shall leave that out.
While waiting for my turn to go in, I had small chats with 2 other interviewees.
First was a PR (1st Gen) and hence no need to NS, he was 23 too. And another a Malaysian from KL.

But contrary to truefaith, I'm turning 24 this year, Singaporean and got call up for round 1. Have applied to RSAF before but never got in. Completed NS (RSAF), diploma holder, have working experience & currently employed. Holding a PPL-R which is nothing to them, instead, you just get tougher questions.

Interview

Went in feeling abit nervous, greeted the captain and a hr personnel., the questions and topics discussed is as follows;

- Briefly describe yourself
- How do you apply skills in mgmt & biz into aviation
- What qualities do you think a crew should have working in a Multi-Crew env
- Discuss the similarities & differences in General Aviation & Commerical Aviation
- How does the plane navigate itself ?
- Where did your last flight (vacation) was to?
- Over which countries did you flew past on your right and left?
- What ocean did the aircraft overflew?
- What is the general direction of flight?

Lastly, do you have any questions to ask? I did ask 2 questions, don't know if it makes a difference but I was genuinely interested to know. Kurai made it without asking too.

Goodluck davis and kurai, for myself; I'm still keeping my fingers crossed and waiting for the email. You have mail Kurai, check your inbox :O thks in advance!

Kurai 23rd Aug 2011 04:57

Oh! actualy i asked 3 questions, then i left. haha!

bloodsucker 23rd Aug 2011 10:05

Woah man, the questions seem tough.. :(

Kurai 23rd Aug 2011 10:35

I guess that's because SFC has flying background. I have zero flying experience, not a lot of technical questions, just basic knowledge about aircraft.

For my 2nd interview, same questions as 1st interview, i answered well and the technical questions stopped there. Then they focused on my family, financial situation as i am married, with 1-year-old little girl. Just to make sure that i can commit to this job and cause no burden to my family, also asked about mortgage of the house.

So told them that i can afford all these, and I passed.

It is a shady area. There are reasons why you being called up.

It must be some infos you given.

mynameisjon 23rd Aug 2011 17:44

not sure where truefaith get's his info from, but unless he is directly involved with the recruitment of cadets in SQ, the age 26 rule is not hard and fast. (no offence to truefaith)

from SQ HR (the horse's mouth), as explained during the interview: as long as MINDEF clears SQ to take you, they can take you as a cadet. There's a lot of rumours as to what age you are automatically released and what not, but that's the simplest fact. MINDEF says they don't need you, SQ can have their pick.

Sq_777 24th Aug 2011 01:19

Hi Kurai,

You are diploma or degree holder?

Kurai 24th Aug 2011 03:02

Hi, I'm a Degree holder..

Sq_777 24th Aug 2011 04:37

I see. I don't know whether I can get the second chance or not. I gone through the second and tea party one year ago but couldn't get through. I heard that if I upgrade my qualification maybe still get second chance. So now doing my degree with the hope. Just realize we are the same age :D Anyway, congratulation! Hope to hear good new from your medical result.

Kurai 24th Aug 2011 04:48

Anybody know which number to call to check upon medical result? Not to call now, it has been only 5 days, maybe if i don't get a reply in a month, i will make a call.

Pray for the best outcome now =)

SFC172N 24th Aug 2011 05:14

I finally understand the fear of waiting, till date still don't know the outcome of the 1st interview. Kurai, I read that you got email notification the following Wednesday after your 1st interview; what time did they send the email?

Another friend told me now they send out rejection on monday and notification for 2nd round on wed, don't know how true it is.....

The wait is agonizing, hope u clear your medical kurai!! You're almost there!!
Goodluck & cheers to all for contributing !!

Kurai 24th Aug 2011 05:18

hi SFC! yes i got it on wed around 6pm, if you don;t get any rejection email that should be positive ya? cross my fingers for you too =)

not very optimistic about the medical result.. but nothing i can do =)

Kurai 24th Aug 2011 05:31

Btw, should I be expecting any email notification regarding my medical result from CAAS? or phone calls? or none at all?

Kurai 24th Aug 2011 06:00

Just for sharing,

Medical test includes hearing test, eye test, ENT test, ECG test, X ray, blood test, urine test, height and weight, and doctor interview.

umustb 24th Aug 2011 06:11

@ Kurai: You won't be getting any phone calls. Give ST a call about 2 weeks after your medical if you want to find out if you cleared. But clearing CAAS medical doesn't mean you've got the job, SIA still makes the decisions. Good luck! :ok:

Dahawk 24th Aug 2011 12:32

Maybe truefaith would like to elaborate what this extra info is about?

Louie15 24th Aug 2011 18:26

Hi sfc, iwas there on the 19th as well.. Was the 3rd last one to go in on that day.. Have not received any notification as well and i'm losing sleep over it! I have a feeling its gonna be there in the morning..

SFC172N 24th Aug 2011 19:31

Yup, Im losing slp over it too. Hope its because today 2nd interview too busy that they can't send out the emails. Let's hope you are right louie.

mynameisjon 25th Aug 2011 04:20

SFC, I waited 6 weeks from my first interview before I got the email for the 2nd one.

no news is good news

Kurai 26th Aug 2011 04:39

Any good news guys?

Louie15 26th Aug 2011 07:28

still no news from me... its been 1 week now.. i hope it is a good sign!

SFC172N 26th Aug 2011 09:34

Same here.... One week just flew by like this. They should be ending work so that concludes Friday. Sigh

davis256 28th Aug 2011 01:14

Hey.. mine was last fri.. on the 26 th.
Just been asked some basic questions and not into much technical since I had no flying experience. No menioning about second interview. They say the HR will inform me. No mentioning about bond etc during interview also

Crazyfans86 28th Aug 2011 10:27

Hi Guys,

Im a singaporean , just turned 25.

As stated in the SIA website, it says that the minimum is to have 5passes in GCE 'o' level in one sitting.(inc eng/maths/phy)

Had a D7 in eng with 4 passes inc maths and phy. But pass my eng with a C6 the second time(retake). Currently holding a degree in biz mgmt now.

Do u think SIA will consider my application ?

Or anyone with the same situation of not having the min 5passes in olvl who got an interview ?

MUPUPUGUFU 28th Aug 2011 13:20

Short answer will be "No". You will not be considered if you have less than 5 credits in your O levels, even if you have a degree to back it up.

Reason being, for preparations to become an airline pilot, you are required to take a certain amount of exams in a certain amount of time. The intensity of the studies is akin to taking the O levels. Having a degree does not mean anything as anyone with a level of competence can complete it if given time.

I believe this issue was raised before in this forum. Your best bet is to retake your O levels if you are serious. If not, your application will just be electronically filtered out if you submit it with your current resume.

Good luck.:ok:

mynameisjon 28th Aug 2011 15:07

If you have a degree it should be fine, but as mentioned many times, what they are looking for is all 6 o level passes in one sitting, whether degree or not.

bloodsucker 28th Aug 2011 16:07

I'm guessing its not possible w/o the req 5 passes. Cos this is under CAAS regs, not SIA's alone. They cant issue u a license if u dont have the requirements.. I dunno about any appeals though.

Dahawk 28th Aug 2011 19:22

Just wondering, did any of you guys wear (or saw) anybody who wore a suit to the interview? Or mostly/all were wearing shirts + tie ?

Kurai 29th Aug 2011 02:18

I guess just long sleeve shirt and tie will do! Nope, didn't see anyone in suit during my interviews.

MUPUPUGUFU 29th Aug 2011 04:13

Actually is that rule confirmed? CAAS can issue licenses to people w/o the 5 req passes. It's just that the people who applied have qualifications that supersedes the requirements. It would seem rather silly that CAAS would refuse to grant a license to a person who have, say, 3000 PIC of a wide body aircraft but no O levels equivalent.

truefaith 29th Aug 2011 08:31

Outside of Singapore

Let me touch on further (besides CAAS) on academic requirement.

The Chinese and South Korean immigration are even silly! On top of a pilot's licence (even with thousands flying hours on big boy), these immigrations require all applicants armed with minimum Bachelor's Degree before they will issue work visa! Damn bloody stupid isn't it?

"No Bachelor's Degree = no visa" - simple as that!

mynameisjon 29th Aug 2011 14:22

@truefaith, if only our ICA and MOM had that requirements before people can get work visas in Singapore.

Johnny632 29th Aug 2011 17:45

There was only one guy in suit during my interview. The rest was in Shirt and tie.

Steed45 29th Aug 2011 19:19

Though it look nice and professional in a suit, it is not necessary. Some guys don't even sport a tie and still managed to get through. To create a good impression and not to overkill, a nicely pressed long-sleeved shirt and pants with tie will do the trick.

Stallone 30th Aug 2011 04:33

MOM/ICA takes in anybody who's willing to work here

that's why SG's population ballooned by so much that the transportation system couldn't even handle it

flight86 30th Aug 2011 07:59

Hi guys..
I have some questions..
How long do ppl normally have to wait to get a call after the medical? The medical only valid for 3 months I heard.. What if I'm still not 25yo yet 3 months later?
Also, will they call to let us know if we are selected before hand? or only when we are 25?
Thanks in advance!

Kurai 30th Aug 2011 13:57

Flight86, are you currently waiting for your medical result?

My medical was done on 19th August. Almost 2 weeks since then.

flight86 30th Aug 2011 17:43

mine was done on the 5th..
