ok im so sorry i should have grouped my qns together.

1. Does the medical examination for SIA cadets ask for NS PES status?

2. Does a PPl from SYFC count for anything in the resume?

3. i just turned 24 years old and will be graduating from NUS in 3 months. i still have about a year and a half before i am eligible to apply (26 years old). anyone can recommend me on what i should do during this period?

i was thinking of applying to an air transport training college or maybe work somewhere related to the aviation industry, but i have no specifics.

Thanks guys!

flight86 30th Jan 2012 22:17

hi silentkitten,

1. No, it does not. But if it's a serious injury, you'll need to declare it during medical or whenever appropriate.

2. If you are asking if having a PPL with SYFC gives you an advantage, my answer would be that I do not think so. However, it does show your interest in aviation, which is good in a way.

3. I suggest you find some work to do, not necessary something in the aviation field. Perhaps save some money within this 1+ years because if you do get into the cadet-ship program, your income will be minimal.

Good Luck!

se.delecter 31st Jan 2012 05:42

hi flight86,

Can you confirm the medical does not request for PES status? I remember when I attended the medical for SIA Cabin Crew that male applicants had to declare their Pes statuses. Shouldn't Pilots pes status be a factor?

Just checking. cheers :)

purplehearts 31st Jan 2012 08:09

I wouldn't worry so much about the PES status if I were you. Just be aware about the nature of your injury. The army doesn't downgrade you to PES C easily so it should be quite bad. And if it's bad enough for a military post it doesn't work well for a pilot. But as you said it's temporary so it wouldn't be a big deal and you will be upgraded. Unless you know your injury is a bad one, then you are better off consulting a doctor than to ask us.

mthx 31st Jan 2012 12:37

Hi. I'm quite certain they're not bothered by PES status as long as you can pass your class 1 medical.

flight86 31st Jan 2012 22:09

Yeap.. As mthx said.. It's not a problem.. Just declare the injury during your application/medical if you're not sure..

silentkitten 1st Feb 2012 05:33

nice.. thanks so much guys!

se.delecter 1st Feb 2012 18:14

yup! thanks for feedback!

dewa11 8th Feb 2012 13:01

anyone knows how long does it take for the job portal to remove the withdrawn application?

I've clicked withdrawn almost more than 6 months ago, but the application is still not deleted and i cannot apply for the same position (ground crew) :(

yannisoar 8th Feb 2012 23:13

dewa - what position did you apply for before the ground position?

yannisoar 9th Feb 2012 23:33

Might have to give them a call and it should be pretty easy for them to remove it for you.

reapplying after failing 2nd interview

hi guys, I failed my 2nd interview in 2006. Now I want to become a pilot again but i have worked for 6 years in an unrelated job to aviation. Can i reapply for interview or I have to take my own PPL to apply again? In this six years i have been saving up money for PPL.

So now I wanted to ask you guys what are the updates in reapplying after 6 years? Thanks!

passionate.aviator 15th Feb 2012 23:53

got news from a trusted source that the intakes are beginning in april. time is nearing. So lets make this thread alive again.

would like to know in short the avg duration from the 1st interview till the time they would ask you to resign from the current job. Anyone pls shed some light on this.

dewa11 16th Feb 2012 03:25

@yannisoar : do u know the number to call? can't find it anywhere in the website...

yannisoar 16th Feb 2012 07:13

sent you a PM dewa. hope this helps

Nick_Pilot 16th Feb 2012 16:38

Good to know passionate.aviator that days are nearing for intake :)
Is there anyway I can apply for cadet pilot trainee now? or should we need to wait until ad posted on SIA site to apply?

passionate.aviator 16th Feb 2012 23:23

i dont think we can apply now. i m not sure if there is a way. i guess we need to wait until the positions open up on the SIA career page.

flying.monkeyz 17th Feb 2012 01:26

With only 80 cadet pilot position up for grab, I won't be surprised if they will just clear the backlog of applications they already have...

tango81 17th Feb 2012 01:46

Hi Flying Monkey,

how about Cargo and Silkair? Would the demand from there increase the intake thus opening up the career page? We've been waiting waiting anxiously.

flying.monkeyz 17th Feb 2012 07:31

80 cadet positions are for the entire SQ group, including Cargo and Silkair.

Next financial year is not looking good for cadet recruitment.

purplehearts 17th Feb 2012 07:44

That's amazingly depressing. Are u working for SIA now?

tango81 17th Feb 2012 07:54

Hi FlyingMonkey,

thanks. Applied last year and went for interviews. Hopefully will be selected. Just waiting very anxiously. Anyway thanks alot. Your little info here and there means alot to us. =)

aqp970 17th Feb 2012 13:44

tango81>

means u passed the 2nd interview and medical already?

tango81 21st Feb 2012 00:35

hihi sorry late reply. aqp970, i have pm you.

quik12 28th Feb 2012 14:47

Hi tango81,

You've already passed the 2nd interview last year and they ask u to wait till this year? I don't get it. I am planning to apply for the cadet program this year. It means people like us will have a slimmer chance?

Do you mind enlightening me? :) Thanks

tango81 2nd Mar 2012 07:50

Hi

Hi quik12,

I went thru both last year. So have waited since. I am not too sure about the quota issue. But if I may, my take is don be too worried over it and apply when you are ready to make flying as your career. Importantly is you must have the passion and determination to get you thru all stages. All the best!

quik12 3rd Mar 2012 09:01

Hi tango,

Thank you for the advice. Anyway, I'm Only 25 years and 6 months when I graduate in June. Is it still possible for me to apply or I have to wait till 26?

kil 3rd Mar 2012 14:02

Hi All,

Do any of the local clubs offer introductory flights? Thanks!

Johnny632 4th Mar 2012 09:32

@quik12 yes, you can apply before you are 26yrs old.

silentkitten 5th Mar 2012 11:32

i am 24 years and 4 months old and will be graduating from Uni in about 2 months. Would it be too early if i apply this year?

purplehearts 6th Mar 2012 00:37

Girl w/o ns or foreign student?

Stallone 6th Mar 2012 02:19

haha, silentkitten served NS, so i think he's neither a girl nor foreign student

silentkitten 6th Mar 2012 12:22

stallone u have awesome tracking skills or a very good memory.. haha.. yeah i completed NS already.. local student from local uni..

Dahawk 6th Mar 2012 14:04

hey same situation! just that im not from a local uni and i'll be graduating two months later. Do you think it's wise to apply?

flight86 7th Mar 2012 02:27

Re: Applications

Well, to those who wants to apply, it'll be advisable to do so after turning at least 25. If not you might not get an immediate response or will only get one on a much later date. (Which you will then have a lot of uncertainties etc.)
However, there isn't a rule that you cannot apply earlier so it's pretty much up to you. The application window is still closed so maybe you guys might want to apply when it opens again.
However, bear in mind you won't be able to start training until you turn 26. So it is advisable to find some other work to do for the time being.

mthx 7th Mar 2012 09:16

Yup. I agree with flight86. Clearing the interviews and medical does not mean that you'll start training anytime soon.

SIA pilots asked to volunteer for no-pay leave

Singapore Airlines (SIA) has asked its pilots to volunteer for up to two years' no-pay leave amid a business slowdown.

This is being asked of the more than 1,000 cadets, second officers and first officers in its ranks, The Straits Times has learnt. Captains are not affected.

In a recent staff circular, SIA said that pilots who are open to the idea have until the end of this month to apply for between a week and two years of no-pay leave. During the time, they will be allowed to work for other carriers, subject to the company's approval.

SIA spokesman Nicholas Ionides, confirming that the offer has been made, said: 'We view the surplus-pilot situation as temporary, and are, therefore, managing this by introducing the voluntary no-pay leave scheme.'

purplehearts 9th Mar 2012 00:00

So is the April cadetship opening going to be off?

passionate.aviator 9th Mar 2012 00:15

i guess it shouldnt coz SIA prepares for the future well in advance. by the time SIA trains the cadets who will be selected in april it would be 2 to 2.5 yrs down the line until they finish training and market might improve by then.
