Hi Guys,

Good luck to all of you going for 2nd Interview on 14/15 March. Some general tips for the 2nd Interview.

Please have sufficient rest. The tests and the interview will be mentally taxing. During interview, substantiate your passion of flying. Like what you have done to pursue your passion so far. Just be yourself, be honest as they normally have a psychologist in the final interview to assess whether you are lying or not.

I presume that if you guys are successful, you will be joining the OBS on 24th March to Lumut. Hope to meet you guys during OBS.

any clinic would do.... be it the neighbourhood clinic, or the polyclinic. :)

yap any doctor in any clinic who can perform the two mentioned tests will do and dont be surprised if the report is just a small piece of paper handwritten by the doc

Not all candidates will be from the same 1st interview date.

Medical wise, yes you still have to go for the one arranged by SIA.

Btw i have a qn. What if i went for PRK (older version of LASIK) and my eyesight deterioriates but still fullfill the SIA requirements of 6/60?? Am i consider as correctable to 6/6?

hi rubber, i paid 350 if i remember correctly, i took it last oct. are u sure i have to do it again? cos its the same place where SIA will send the cadets to, and also mine is valid for a year

If your medical hasn't expired, you still have to go for it. However, the medical only consists of certain stations (like seeing the doc face to face). This is because once you have taken your initial (where you go to the specialists), you don't need to do it again. It's CAAS ruling where they will mark you off that you have passed. Since you have passed, go down, tell them about it. Most likely, as I said you might just need to go through several stations, or even none at all. But make sure they inform CAAS about you, such that your information will be submitted to SIA.

What do you reply to when questioned at the near end of the interview...
"Any questions that you would like to ask us?"

It's pretty convenient to just say "None thank you at this moment" to end the interview but just wondering if this is a good opportunity to pose good questions to end it nicely... or should we just shut up and leave before fumbling up? :confused:


On another note... was reading the Thinking Pilot publication and to my great surprise (well not really because he was really into aviation since young), saw the name of this young chap who used to be my neighbour... he's in Class 97 now. Wonder if he's in this forum... hi Yusuf! :ok:

I did the medical on my own and I was able to skip the post tea party medical. Just take note that your medical will expire earlier than your coursemates once you start, so don't let it laspe, or it will cause you a little inconvenience.

yo knight, soi dont ahve to attend the medical at all? waht did u have to do? mine says FIT FOR CPL at the back, so thats all they need to know yea? whether anot i got pimples on my ass or elsewhere doesnt matter yea? heh

Just inform them about the medical during the interviews and remind them after if they ask you to go for the medical after the tea party. Then just send them a copy of the medical with the Fit for CPL stamp. They'll probably get a copy off the clinic as well, which was what happened for me. That's about it, I guess. You'll probably skip the check up then, so just sit tight and hope they offer you the contract. Not to be a wet blanket, but SIA does not necessarily offer the contract even if the candidate clears the interviews and the medical. Good luck.

In fact, I had gone for the 1st interview in Dec 05. However, I guess I just screwed it up coz I was not really prepared what to expect on that day...

Well, that is not the end for me... As for me,I guess I got to better prepare myself... I hope you guys here are kind enough to give me some tips on how to equip myself better in the next round... I guess I got to start reading up on airplanes n know more about planes and stuffs... Where can I get all these info?

All you guys who made it in are so lucky. I graduated in Dec 2004 with a BSE in Aerospace Engineering and applied just before graduation, and didn't hear anything since. I'm 25 now, 26 at the end of the year. I eventually took up a job in the US and will be posted back to Singapore soon, but I am itching to try it again. In the time I have been in the US, I took flying lessons and will be going for my PPL check ride real soon. Damn, flying is really addictive. Do you guys realise how lucky you are to fly and NOT have to pay for it. I completed a XC flight last weekend and I could not believe 2 hrs flew (pun intended) just like that. Don't complain about the low allowances during the training phase, because people like me would me rejoicing and thanking the heavens. I'd like to do an IR after my PPL, but it's serious money. After my PPL is done, I'd have spent US$8000 on everything, but then, I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. If you love to fly and you get to be in the cadet program, it's a mathc made in heaven. I'm applying again the minute I get my PPL, then maybe I won't have to pay for my IR after all :) And yes, I work as an engineer and it sucks.

I have done my lasik last year and was sort of wondering i did the right choice but now i can leave that aside and concentrate on my other weakness. thanks

first time here. I have just recently found this useful forum and kinda regret not knowing about it when i 1st applied for the position 4 years ago. Could have been really useful.

I am thinking of reapplying cos after 4 years my desire to fly is still strong. I was rejected after the 2nd interview and decided to pursue a stable engineering career (had to put food on the table). I am thinking about reapplying next year when my bond with current company is up.

I just need to get some info on SIA's stance on older candidates. Im gonna be 30 when i apply and already with a baby. After browsing these pages, i found that most guys are just out of Uni or pretty much not in their 30's yet. Maybe i have some inferior complex or something to younger guys, but that aside, it would be useful if some current cadets can enlighten me on the maximum age for applicants and wether middle aged fathers like me are deemed fit for the position. I have read in these forum that some pilots went through the 2nd interview a couple of times so that is not a big issue.

Well, heres wishing the best of luck to all for the interviews! I could still recall i had a blast during my 1st interview. It was quite entertaining actually. I even managed to throw in a few jokes here and there to the captain's amusement. (the other guy was quite serious). Was called up for the 2nd interview a couple of days later. Everything went okay but I screwed up during the final interview cos i was really, really tired. So the only reasonable advice i can offer is to have alot of rest the night b4.

I have a few friends who are 32 years old, with no flying background at all when they started their cadet training. So I think being 30 years of age is not such a big deal. The important thing to know is what you will be going through for the next 3 years of training, during which you will spend most of the time away from your family. So, you must be able to convince the interviewers that you are able to juggle your life, with plans on how to handle your family matters both emotionally and financially etc, and that you are able to concentrate on your pilot training. You are going to need all the motivation and focus you can get for ATPL groundschool as well as flying. The last thing you want during training is distraction. All the best!

Your age should not be a big factor. I'm 30 and still in training. However, you do know that SIA very rarely gives a second chance to those who has gone thru the 2nd interview previously right? From what I hear, SIA will consider you again IF you have improved yourself, for example academically, since the last time you went for the interview.

Just had my first interview today. Only lasted 15mins, they didn't ask me any tech questions or questions about the airline at all,but I already have an ATPL so maybe thats why. I heard that if they ask you about the bond means that you'll most likely be selected for 2nd round, is that true?

for those with ATPL,

this is my own experience. when i went for the 2nd interview they bomb me with tons of technical questions about situations and very technical details and maths calculation. read up information for basic flying and if u have IR will read and make sure u understand the parts and functions and how different instrumentation works. ATPL frm CASA will only grant entry to most likely cadetship,
ATPL from massey which is singapore equvalant will make you start your career as a 2nd officer under training for leajets 45 at australia.

That's right. No exemptions for CASA license holders at the moment. That means full cadet program for them if they are accepted as cadets. Some of the CASA license holders applied for hours exemption for the Jandakot phase, and are still waiting for CAAS's response. As for Massey, I think they still need to take the CAAS ATPL exams. But unlike CASA license holders, their hours are recognised. Correct me if I'm wrong.

u will need to take only the navigation papers from CAAS for conversion.
i took my papers when i join SIA as a 2nd officer.
