hi ac, this is from the SIA cadet pilot website

- GCE ‘A’ level, Polytechnic Diploma or Degree. In addition you must have obtained a minimum of 5 Credits in the GCE ‘O’ level or its equivalent. These must include English, Mathematics and a Science subject, preferably Physics, taken in one sitting.

note the IN ADDITION, and ITS EQUIVALENT. i guess it applies still.anyway, no harm trying. who knows what the management is thinking now. since some bright kids nowadays go straight for 'a' levels...if the college cert you did in perth was of the same standard, it shouldn't be a problem.

as for aditya, if i'm not mistaken, there was a field in the online application form that prompted for your expected GPA, so i think if you can roughly guess that value, whether or not the actual results are out yet, it doesn't really matter. but you're definitely getting the degree right?

bottom line is, just try, and if they reject anyone, then you know you don't meet their criteria.

disclaimer..i'm not an expert. i'm not even a cadet yet. just giving my thoughts on this.

AC Schnitzer 4th May 2007 03:08

Hi there Speedy,

Good to hear from you !

My Australia College or Yr 12 equivalent consist of management, marketing and accounting units but no science.

I did read the fine print in addition and I've checked out the necessary information for me to obtain O levels. To retake O levels, I will need to do a 1 year course in Singapore which is quite a commitment. Thats why I was wondering if anyone has a similar situation and has managed to get through with other higher qualification.

My next course of action would be to try to get in contact with SIA recruiting department and see if my degree is sufficient.

Having read the previous threads where several members have indicated that SIA is using a computerised system, it would be highly unlikely that I have a chance since screening is systematic.

Worst case senario for me would be to redo my O levels in Singapore when I graduate in Perth. The course will take 1 year. It is a bit of a joke that a degree student is re-taking his O levels but if thats what SIA wants than thats what I will do in order to achieve my goal. :)

By the way I wish you the best of luck in your coming May 10th Interview. You made it through the air force ones so this should be a cruise for you. I'll be waiting to hear good news from you. All the Best ! :ok:

speedy195 4th May 2007 04:09

thanks ac! well, u only need 5 credits. and in case u do dedicate that year for those 5 credits just for SIA, that might be a plus point during your interview!

minimum u have to take would be like english, maths, amaths(if you can), combined science (phy/chem) or just take a pure physics, and geography

or if u have other subjects that can let you score well, by all means give it a shot!

u know, when i went for my air force interview, there wasn't really anything to worry about because i still had an alternative if it didn't go through.. now, you have no idea how scared i am..its not just about aviation anymore. they ask ALL SORTS of questions during the interviews. current affairs, planes, geography, politics.. this is it. 1 hit 1 kill.

:)

With regard to online application

I submitted my Cadet Pilot application yesterday and had already answered the questionnaire. I checked on my Status today, and it said "Job Application". I had received the email indicating that I have applied for that position yesterday.

But today, a while ago, I applied for the position of Cadet Cabin Crew Executive (CCE). After i'm done with the questionnaire, the Status for my CCE application is "Application Received".

Anyone knows why the difference in statuses? Does this mean my Cadet Pilot application didn't go through. I do not want to have a futile wait. Anyone has any idea?

To those who are going for their interviews on the 10th of May, I wish you guys all the best.

AC Schnitzer 4th May 2007 09:33

Hi Speedy,

Would certainly look into that. I'm thinking of doing English, Maths, Combine Science in Physics/Biology, Geography, History.

Fingers crossed that they are able to use my degree.

Don't worry so much dude. Take comfort in knowing your medical and computer tests will be a cruise for you. I've done it myself as well during BMT days so I would not be worried about it. You still have plenty of time to equip yourself with general knowledge. As what others say, they don't expect you to know everything. Nonetheless put in the hard work. It is worth it at the end of the day. ! :ok:

If you need help on knowledge about planes, I can try and help out. PMed you my MSN Messenger. :)

aditya104 4th May 2007 16:47

With reference to post 832(http://www.pprune.org/forums/showpos...stcount=832),I am only 17 so i have just completed my schooling with Maths, Physics and English of which the result is awaited(result will b good). And I don`t have any degree other than that. But still I applied for SIA cadet pilots for India but haven`t received any call from them. But I am still praying and I am optimistic.

uluwatu06 5th May 2007 08:58

You sure your English result will be good, judging from the way you type?

le.aviateur 5th May 2007 14:17

Hi guys,

I happened to came across this forum and i think that it's really very informative. I wanted to be a pilot too and i really envy those who got to live my dream. I like to apply for an interview..but not sure if i would get a chance.. can someone give me some advice?

I'm a Singaporean..currently 31. I've 5 'O' level credit but my science is combine science. I've a diploma in Civil and Structural Engineering and also a degree in Business (graduated from University of London external student program). Do you all think i'll stand in chance of being selected as i'm afraid that i may be too old. Anyway there is no harm in trying right..:)
Friend of mine went for his interview 2 years ago(He was turning 31 that year). He passed, finished B777 ground school 2months ago and is now starting line training, so I daresay you still have a shot, but it must be NOW. All the best. :ok:

on_the_right 5th May 2007 18:10

yes, his english may not be good. but then, have a look around this thread, and you will see that the standard of english out there in singapore aint hot either.

speedy195 10th May 2007 14:27

I'm back!

hi there again!~ my interview was at 1015 today. here's a list of things they asked me as far as i can remember. (not in order)

1)self introduction
2)do i like my current job(aviation related)
3)National service history
4)since when did i realise my interest in aviation
5)whats cruise altitude
6)where's kansai airport? (OSAKA, JPN)
7)how many posters were there in the holding room?
8)what model was it?
9)what aircraft does SIA have?
10)what are the qualities a pilot should have
11)can a plane fly through weather system?
12)will aircraft systems generally be affected by weather storms?
13)what's the flight time from SIN to KANSAI?
14)if u were in the plane as a passenger, and a fellow passenger asks u what plane model you're in, other than asking steward/ess, how would you find out?
15)bond is x years, we'll deduct training costs from you over y years...1 month how much?
16)What is ETOPS. *point added when i posted my reply on 12/05/07*

other standards..can u swim, do u smoke, sports.. rather insignificant, more for them to know about you as an individual.

they closed by telling me, due to the fact that i'm working with this current company, they expected me to have a better general knowledge and higher situational awareness.. will reply me within 2 weeks.

good luck all that went thru... will be updating once i receive a reply from them.

speedy195 11th May 2007 02:31

reply!

just received an email from them this morning!

16th may full day, 18th may medical!

YES!!!

maxtan 11th May 2007 03:58

congratulation through to 2nd interview! the questions seem pretty tough (for me)...hehee...think i better brush up my knowledge...update us on the 2nd interview bro...and how does the psychomotor test goes...thanks and good luck!

bishibishi 11th May 2007 15:19

Congratulations for your 2nd interview.

How come the medical comes immediately? I thought there are 2 full days for the 2nd interview. Seems like they cut short to one day.

Effee 11th May 2007 16:18

lol took me awhile to figure out the last answer for no.15

x/12y right?

did you know all the answers to all the questions?

oh also, what aviation related job are you doing now.

speedy195 12th May 2007 11:16

many thanks!

thanks a lot guys! anyway, i compared the current process with my friend's who's done it last year, and realised that they seem to have taken away the discussion/sit test part. so on the 16th, it'll be checking of documents, and aptitude test, then lunch, followed by final interview cum tea party (extracted from my email). and the medical exam will ONLY be planned for me when i CALL and ASK for my results on the 17th at a certain time allocated to me...

the question on how i was going to ans my fellow passenger, i just told them i didn't know, can only tell the difference between aircrafts on the outside. not familiar with the internal layout. the correct ans is the emergency card at the seat's pocket in front of you. Managed to get some correct. For the bond part, they give you numbers, so it'll be easier to calculate. i had a problem with ETOPS and POSTERS too. Too consumed to notice how many posters and what model. haha

I can't tell you guys some of the answers so that the interview process will still be a proper one. bear in mind, as long as you don't know, don't smoke 'em. and if you do have an interest in aviation, by searching 1 query you have, chances are, it'll lead you to more answers that you didn't know you don't know. haha wikipedia is a good start. :x

*i'm working with a US MNC that provides training for simlators worldwide. they've got a building in SG. i'm just a customer service guy.

i'll be back on the 16th! see ya guys!

Effee 12th May 2007 19:05

congrats to you! maybe soon we can see each other in a couple of years :)

exothermic 15th May 2007 07:35

Hello everyone. Just got the coveted phone call from SIA HR and will be going for OBS this 1st June 2007!!

:D

Anyone with me? Let's contact each other?

FL355 15th May 2007 07:50

I went for the medical checkup last month, cleared, and I am now waiting for the reply from SIA.

Anyone know what is the process like for Malaysian candidate after medical phase ?

speedy195 15th May 2007 13:03

grats exo! do u know how many of you there are already for the june lamut? if not, they may speed me up and squeeze some more into it. when was ur medical?

le.aviateur 16th May 2007 07:45

FL355: Usually wait for your work permit to be ready(in principle)...takes about 3 weeks. Then by the time you finish OBS in lumut it'll be ready.

uluwatu06 17th May 2007 12:33

My status is REJECTED. No 1st interview even.

What could be the possible reasons? Do they look at pre-LASIK degrees? I'm waiting for uni's transcript, I'm taller than minimum height. I fulfil all requirements.

Is my elder bro, now a cadet (finished Perth and Bbane), considered as a disadvantage?

I'm dumbfounded.

Knightwhosays_NI 17th May 2007 14:28

1)How do you know it's an outright rejection?

2)Having a sibling who's in the airline is definitely not a disadvantage and certainly not held against you.

uluwatu06 17th May 2007 15:28

I checked the SQ portal, after i logged in.

Under status, its written "REJECTED".

All my hopes crashed in 12 days since i applied.

Knightwhosays_NI 17th May 2007 16:51

Things have really changed since they introduced this system. Well, it's easy to solve this mystery. If your brother is finished with MCY and is still a cadet it means that he's waiting or is doing his conversion. So get him to check with the department when he's at STC. If you fulfill all the requirements, there's no reason why you shouldn't at least get the first interview.

uluwatu06 17th May 2007 22:28

Hi Knightwhosays_NI,

Yeah, he said he will try to check it out for me later today, friday. Still clinging on to this little glimmer of hope.

Thermal Image 18th May 2007 00:55

All my hopes crashed in 12 days since i applied.
It's not the end.

History has shown that there is another way.

So far there have been a few private candidates at SFC. Your brother should be able to provide some inside info about this. If he is still not yet a first officer he should be not too far behind on what's happening there.

The long and short of it is - you can still be part of the SIA family (sniff sniff that is so touching).

If it is really confirmed that you have been rejected as a cadet, you can still apply to be a private candidate.

Work hard, make yourself seen to be working hard, and there will be job interviews and offers made (if you are worthy).

They have had 4 private candiates (last I heard), 3 got offers from Cargo I think, so at least they only have to pay less than $80K for their frozen ATPL (because after they get a firm offer from Cargo, Cargo takes over the training costs). The remaining 1 who got chopped (even as a private candidate you can and WILL get chopped if you are bloody lazy) was a rich kid who drove his father's Audi TT to school.

But in the meantime wait to see if your application is well and truly finished.

uluwatu06 18th May 2007 05:51

Thanks TI for the words of encouragement. Will keep them in mind, definitely.

Anyway, what's the diff between "Cadet Pilot (Singapore)" and "Flt Ops (Cadet Pilot) (Singapore)"?

NinerVictor 18th May 2007 10:23

They are all cadet pilots, just in different stages of the training. Those cadets assigned to Flight Ops are probably waiting for the next phase of training ie. LJ45 or B777/B744.

hi ninervictor,

The "Flt Ops (Cadet Pilot) (Singapore)" position is listed at the SQ site as a job vacancy. Is it the same as "Cadet Pilot (Singapore)", but just under different name?

NinerVictor 18th May 2007 12:21

Hi uluwatu, my apologies. I misunderstood your question. I have just visited SQ's website, and I believe they mean the same thing. Cheers.

HotelUniform 18th May 2007 12:29

If u go through the web page in detail, you will see at the bottom the following

Please apply under the ''Cadet Pilot (Singapore)'' position.
although the job vacancy highlights Flt Ops (cadet pilots).

cheers

Bro said the person was out for lunch just now. Tues then. Sigh.

Good luck to all those awaiting 1st intwv or others.

on_the_right 18th May 2007 14:58

kaku_380,

if you can afford your own CPL and the costs after that, SIA cadet pilot program is not worth your time.

kaku_380 18th May 2007 16:43

on the right
sir its not abt money or stuff india has a lot of jobs for 200 hr cessna wonders but its abt a dream and SIA is mine i came all the way just for this i know it might not sound practical

Knightwhosays_NI 18th May 2007 18:06

SIA cadet pilot program is not worth your time.
Saying something like that without backing it up with reasons is simply frivolous. Maybe you've given your reasons in past threads long buried. Care to bang out a summary for us?

captain_jim 19th May 2007 07:05

Anyone attended the 1st interview on the same day as me?

Have anyone recieve any rejection or notice for 2nd interview?

on_the_right 20th May 2007 07:23

"Saying something like that without backing it up with reasons is simply frivolous. Maybe you've given your reasons in past threads long buried. Care to bang out a summary for us?"

nothing against the wonderful programme you guys have out there. it is not for everyone though. certainly not the fastest way to the LHS on big jets. thats all, peace out.

exothermic 21st May 2007 03:20

This coming OBS starting 1st June will be held in Lumut Perak.

I do not know of anyone else besides me and another guy that went to the medical with me.

When will we know the fleet we're getting?
