Will I be wasting my time if I were to go for the interview this coming 16thAug? ('cos I actually have classes that day; will probably be skipping them should I go for the interview.)
You are clearly wasting your time if you are measuring lost class time vs a career interview, something that others in this thread would give an arm and leg for.

Might as well just withdraw your application now. Stop wasting the time of those who are processing your application.

During the course of your life as a cadet, then a second officer and finally a first officer, there will be repeated assaults on your senses (if ever you are selected), along the lines of "why am I doing this?" or "why am I here?"

But instead of appreciating the chance of coming for an interview, you are instead asking "will I be wasting my time?".

It is clear that you don't have the resolve to complete flying school, let alone show up for an interview.

Don't waste your time.

LittleFish 30th Jul 2007 11:47

Hi thanks for your reply Thermal Image

Perhaps I wasnt explicit enough as when I typed "wasting time" it actually implies wasting a "chance" as I believe somewhere in this thread, there is a mention of "two-shots" at the 1st round of interview before being "barred/blacklisted". Hence I would like to make sure that I've cleared the "minimum" requirement (age in this case) and could give it my best shot at the very first try, instead of being shown the door due to an admin(?) oversight.

During the course of your life as a cadet, then a second officer and finally a first officer, there will be repeated assaults on your senses (if ever you are selected), along the lines of "why am I doing this?" or "why am I here?" (sic)
This is taken way of out context i believe as nowhere in my first post did i suggest anything along the lines of "why am I doing this/why am I here?". I KNOW why I am doing this and I know why I will be there.

As a senior member, I guess it is easy to jump onto newbies and there exists a higher tendency to breach tolerance thresholds esp when one deem the maiden post to be "frivolous" or "non-appreciative". However I would like to assure you I do not belong to those categories.

Having said that, it's your point of view and I appreciate that (along with all ur helpful posts in this thread so far) as this could possibly be the image I might be unknowingly project to the interviewers and I will take the necessary extra precaution not to let it happen. :}

Lastly, I did consider other alternatives like calling them personally, but I chose to post my query in the forum first as I thought there are some tech crew from SIA participating over here whom I hope could shed some light on the current min age issue.

Cheers

Hey Thermal Image,

Ya still here yeah.. Situation at MCY is really bad yeah

WhiteOak

SST77 2nd Aug 2007 03:53

MCY?

Hey White Oak,

What's MCY? Maroochydore?
What's bad there?

WSSSWSSS 2nd Aug 2007 05:21

It is Maroochydore. But he just started WW3.

SST77 3rd Aug 2007 09:18

Something afoot in MCY???

Started WW III with that message that things are bad?

What is exactly going on there? Is whatever that's happening there causing the backlog of cadets waiting for Learjet, or processing of new cadets?

Anyone can shed some light on this, either here or via PM?

Thanks.

le.aviateur 6th Aug 2007 02:10

SST77: Apparently some lears went U/S and some instructors left, all happening around the same time... Over at YPJT, bad WX is pushing the schedules back, I know some guys who were there since Jan and only just finished P2...:ooh:

ozman777 8th Aug 2007 01:11

Hello guys !

I'm from Switzerland, and I really do love Singapore, and its national airline of course.

I tried to apply there 2 years ago, but I have no PR neither a Citizenship so they rejected me. (I think, as they didn't replied)
A little be nostalgic

So I just wanted to say you "good luck" for your applications to SIA lah! :)

(aah, Do you know if SIA will hire some direct-entry pilots in the future ?
Because I expect to settle in Singapore as soon as I can. (this means in 4 or 5 years actually..)

Bye bye!

2nd interview

Hi guys

will we be asked to write a short essay/paragraph at the end of the interview??

tottijohn 8th Aug 2007 10:17

Hi everyone, really nice place here to gather informations about aviation.

Just sent out my application online today, been hesitating for weeks or even months as i am only 24 this year, but i went for Airforce airgrading during my NS time. Only after reading through tons of posts here was i confident enough to submit my application, only because i went for airgrading before.

One question though is that throughout the online application, i was not required to mention anything about my airgrading experience, will they still be able to know that?

Thanks and best regards!

Edmund

cire07 8th Aug 2007 12:06

Airgrading Experience

Evening,

Are u hoping they ask abt ur airgrading experience?
Or that they dun find out abt it?

Regards
:)

tottijohn 9th Aug 2007 02:12

Hi cire07,

Since its one of the main criteria if i am going to be even shortlisted for my age, i am just thinking, how will they know? Since in no part of the online application was i required to fill in.

Really inspire to fly, hope to get their reply soon :)

WSSSWSSS : U got the wrong guy... :)

Short essay ?

Hi Jgan7

I not aware there will be a short essay. From few years ago thread, someone mention that the 2nd interview take 2 days which include a short essay qn "Why you want to become a pilot". From SIA email, it only mention that there is only aptitude test, briefing, final interview cum tea party, all in 1 day. But nothing is impossible, so don't be suprise if there is any.

:cool::ooh::{:p:8:zzz:;):yuk::D:sad::O:E:*:(:ok:

Short Essay

There is a short essay...

http://askcaptainlim.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=3597

"The day starts early at about 9am with 10 of us gathered in a conference room. We were then told to write a short essay consisting of not more than 50 words."

:)

tottijohn 10th Aug 2007 09:44

Alright, thanks cire07! Guess its a good time during this waiting period to learn more about SIA and their structures.

Hi guys

I must say that it was a fruitful trip on sunday. Nice meeting u guys.

RUNWAY001 20th Aug 2007 14:05

Nice to know you guys

Last Sunday gathering is very helpful to me too-- a lot of things I still need to gear-up for. Thank you very much guys for the advises and sharing of information. :)

I feel more calm now -- well, I think the more you want to be a pilot, the more calm you have to be in critical moment. 9 more days to go ... ... :8

I think I better stop eating so much that I might have problem in future ..... You know what I mean, WSSWSS.

Keep posting, guys. :ok:

tottijohn 21st Aug 2007 09:36

For those going for their 2nd interview, all the best!!

I just gotten their reply today, going for my 1st interview on the 31st Aug.

Did not expect them to reply so fast as i just sent in my application on the 8th Aug, only took 13 days. My friend who applied beginning of this year took 4-5 mths for his 1st interview. Less applications at this period? :p

Jgan7 22nd Aug 2007 04:40

2nd Meet-up

Hi Shyan,

For me, I intend to rush up my FYP on Sat & Study for the interview on Sun. Need a good rest too. This week a lot of works, a lot of machine commisioning back  & alot of those 'stupid' electronic controls that go haywire ..

Counting down 5 days ......

Maybe we could all would meet up at on the actual day e.g. 8.00am in the training centre, before the 8.45am appt. What do you say guys ? ;)

** Hey WSSSWSS, I these few days eat vegetarian for almost every 1 meal of the day. Feel like lighter, haha. I think just skip the snacks and eat 80% full will do the job :>

RUNWAY001 31st Aug 2007 15:25

2nd Interview Result

Gain a lot of advises from the friendly cadet pilots and valuable advises from the Chief Pilot. Like to say "Thank you very much". Although I did not make it but the experience is SHIOK. ;)

Congrad WSSWSS. So far what I know is that only you got in out of the 6 fellows. The remaining 4 no ideas. Although our meeting is short but very happy to meet you all. All the best to you, Dennis. Get a Korea girlfriend soon. Just check SIA website, they remove the cadet pilot post from the career section. FYI

Advise to others : must have very strong passion -- able to proof it to the interviewer.

Anyone know what is the requirement for 2nd chance to get the interview ?

Anyone took up the below PPL before from SYF ? Can share any tips ?
  1. What will be the complete cost to obtain my PPL. The cost is about S$20,000 to 30,000 this amount will cover the flight training, ground school and books that are required during training.

Read the thread again. And again until you find the answer. The answer IS in there. Take it as good practice because if you become an airline pilot you will spend much time reading through pages and pages of manuals.

Why do you assume that you need a cover letter? Read the thread again.

WSSSWSSS 10th Sep 2007 00:24

Why do you assume that you need a cover letter? Read the thread again.
Actually there is no mention of cover letter in the thread but the online application form has an entry with regards to the cover letter.

Although they would require only the resume/photos to be uploaded, if one has a cover letter and reference he/she can submit/attach it online together with their resume and photos.

This function is availabel under My Profile/Manage your files/Add.

1st round interview

Hi guys,

Anyone going for the 1st round interview on the 14th Sept? Having butterflies in my stomach now. I am a pilot wannabe that is trying for a mid-career switch. Just want to know is it just a sit down and question -answer session on Monday? or is it more than that? Jus don't like surprises.

Cheers

LittleFish 12th Sep 2007 15:11

Hi redDevilz

I thought I'd better reply you first in case you get chewed off by some here for being too passive.

For the first interview, yeah. Pretty much just a sit down and question -answer session(sic). Nothing more than that.

All the best dude.

Cheers

overmars 13th Sep 2007 01:25

Getting chewed off here is actually good. Prepares you for being chewed off at the interview...

Self Sponsored CPL/IR

Hi guys, I was not selected for the cadet pilot sponsorship but am thinking of doing my own CPL/IR with Singapore Flying College and then subsequently pursue a distance learning ATPL.

However, the Singapore Flying College Website, http://www.sfcpl.com/ doesn't seem to provide much information to the self sponsored course. Important details such as fees are not indicated.

Found the below website
http://www.londonmet.ac.uk/depts/bss.../prof/atpl.cfm

I was just wondering if the JAA ATPL is valid in Asia countries. I am a Singaporean and is considering settling down in Hong Kong, to look for jobs with Hong Kong Airlines.

Advices pls?
