hi anwarhull,

there is nothing that you can do but wait. i think there is only one person handling cadet application (with the help of a few cadet awaiting course dates).

all the best:ok:

LearSIA 13th Feb 2007 02:46

I recently received an email from a friend who advised me about a course to be ran in Singapore on the second weekend in March. The purpose of the course is apparently to train people to get a higher score in the aptitude tests part of selection.

Is anybody else planning on attending or have any views on the benefits or effectivness of such a course.

NinerVictor 13th Feb 2007 05:12

There are many sections/categories of questions in the computerised aptitude tests. While some of these tests can be improved through practise, most of the others are somewhat a part of your personality, the way you think/analyse a problem etc and these attributes can't be improved significantly in a short period of time.

There are some questions like: Choose the number that fits the following sequence: 1 2 4 8 16 32, or Choose the picture that best fit the preceeding sequence of pictures. You can find samples of such questions from the National Library. Just look under MENSA quizes/puzzles.

While I can't comment on the benefits or effectiveness of the course that you mentioned, I'm sure it will be a good exposure to the kind of tests that you will be subjected to. Of course it also depends on how much $$$ it costs to attend this course.

Best wishes,

9V

Schedule of a typical pilot?

Hi guys i was wondering, assuming u fly for half a month clocking the maximum hours you can fly. What would u be required to do for the next half of the month? Do you go to an office to finiish some paperwork from 8am-5pm? Or do you stay at home to spend time with friends and family?

sunakel 17th Feb 2007 03:20

Keep the dream alife...!

Merlinrabbi 17th Feb 2007 04:31

goondusamy,
if you are fortunate enough to be able to max out your flying hours, then the company cannot touch you but to let you go off and do whatever you want, the time is yours. :ok:

anwarhull 18th Feb 2007 06:59

Can retry?

Hi there,
anyone ever been through all the cadet pilot interviews but was not selected? will re-application be considered? Anyone know what is the cut-off age?

graco 27th Feb 2007 00:19

Hi It_ is_fate,

Which stage of the interview are you referring to? If you are asking about the 1st stage interview, then I am one of them waiting for another chance. Once of my friend also fail the first round interview then he applied and now he is waiting to go to OBS in March but if you referring for your second round interview come tea party...from what I have read from this thread earlier posting you need to upgrade yourself in term of academics and such then you may be given a chance (others out there please correct me if I am wrong). How old are you by the way? If you don't mind me asking. Anyway bro, why not just apply and give it a try. All the best to you. :ok:

sunakel 28th Feb 2007 06:55

Re-apply

hi Graco,

I am oso waiting for second chance. i went for 1st interview Aug 2006. i appied again in Jan 27th. how about you? I will update you if i gotten any news. just wondering how come it takes so long.. everyday i am checking for email from SIA.. :ugh:

graco 28th Feb 2007 07:17

hi sunakel,

I reapplied in Dec 06..my first interview was in April 2006. The long wait is because there is a cooling period of 6 months before you could applied again. In the mean time why do more reading and learn as much as you can. Yup, thanks and I will do the same for you too mate. All the best and be patient.

cheers

Hi,

Anyone knows if there is a recruitment drive for cadet pilots this year? They had 1 last year, but I don't recall seeing any ads on it this year.
If anyone has any info, please reply. Thank you. :)

hi latest update from me..

just came back from kl hotel niko just now...as i wrote this msg in 2.30 am...

really hard..got drill by 2 sia capt almost 1 hour....goshh..

i really thought before they will just ask my background and a little bit on sia history or fleet(did ask though)...but it was merely likely 2nd stage interviewing as the capt asked me alot all the technical stuffs(aileron....fly by wire concept..the difference between 747 and a380)..but the hardest part was as i defended on my judgment that nowaday all new aircraft is being controlled by computer the capt provoked me about the reliability of the computer itself...so there was a debated then between me and him..but in very professional way of course..ultimately the second capt took his turn and explain to me about the bonding system with sia and how much i have to pay within the period of boding years...last but not least the capt asked about my commitment(either i already marry or got gf..i said nil..hehhe)...then first capt urged me to learn swimming..that all folks..maybe i'll get to second stage then...

ArcachonTower 4th Mar 2007 06:31

gd luck anwar....

cheers

NoBrain 8th Mar 2007 03:46

Hi all,

May I know how long does it take for SIA to reply once the application is submitted?

izzaz 9th Mar 2007 09:30

anwar, u sure both of them are capts?when i was there only one was..the other one was from management..

A330AV8R 9th Mar 2007 09:47

Hey guys , any idea on what equipment this add is for ? 340 ? 777 ? And will Airbus experience be preffered ??

don't think this one is for us with experience but what the hell

:ok:

Arkdriver 10th Mar 2007 11:14

SQ's fat on crews atm. I guess once the 330s come there will be lots of conversions going on. give it a go.. can't hurt.

anwarhull 14th Mar 2007 11:18

izzaz 15th Mar 2007 03:06

dreamster 20th Mar 2007 08:45

Hi guys,

I happened to came across this forum and i think that it's really very informative. I wanted to be a pilot too and i really envy those who got to live my dream. I like to apply for an interview..but not sure if i would get a chance.. can someone give me some advice?

I'm a Singaporean..currently 31. I've 5 'O' level credit but my science is combine science. I've a diploma in Civil and Structural Engineering and also a degree in Business (graduated from University of London external student program). Do you all think i'll stand in chance of being selected as i'm afraid that i may be too old. Anyway there is no harm in trying right..:)

Knightwhosays_NI 20th Mar 2007 16:11

No you're not too old, but SIA's cut off age is 31 for ab-initio cadets, so you've got to apply now.

ArcachonTower 20th Mar 2007 23:53

How sure are u "Kinghtwhosays". Why not 33. If its really 31, where does it state?

cheers

Knightwhosays_NI 21st Mar 2007 06:30

33? Is that an arbitrary number you just pulled out or some changes in SIA's policy which I'm not aware of?

I was helping out in the recruitment department while I was a cadet, sorting out applications for the initial interview. The max age SIA accepts as an ab-initio was 31 then, and I doubt it's changed recently.

speedy195 27th Apr 2007 05:48

Hi all, 1 months has passed and i think we should try to keep this thread alive again~

going for my 1st interview on the 10th of may~ at AM batch in SG.

studying like mad now...

hope to know more people from here as time goes by!

take care!

maxtan 27th Apr 2007 19:13

Hi guys, newcomer to this forum... was wondering...other then captain lim webpage,is there any other webpage that is relevant to be studied? any books to recommend that will give a good idea about aviation which the interviewer will asked?

speedy195 1st May 2007 00:46

hi max, r u going for an interview in may? i read that engines, SIA recent news, fleet information, differences between each model that SIA has, general knowledge on SIA's destinations help a bit.

not forgetting a well prepared introduction on yourself, your strengths, weaknesses..etc etc

bishibishi 1st May 2007 14:56

Hi speedy195, when did you apply and receive invitation? I am curious at how fast they respond to applicatoins.

speedy195 2nd May 2007 04:17

hi, well, there's never a range you can expect from them. it depends. the email they sent, was to an email address i used to apply with almost a year ago. i was using another email address from the 30th of jan this yr, and they didn't reply to that one yet. all details are the same.

i've got friends who get replied within 2 weeks, and some in this thread, have gotten the email within 1 week.

no news is good news. :ok:

maxtan 2nd May 2007 12:31

Hi speedy, i am still waiting for the reply...just sent in for the 1st time last week...went through the forum trying to see how will be the interview...however the post was quite old already...so hoping someone can reply to my post updating the current procedure....care to give the address of webpages or books title you think I shall look into....thanks man...

speedy195 3rd May 2007 00:07

well, there's the newspapers you can read up. business times in sg has aviation news on certain days. but generally, jus read up those more important news..like bird flu, US-EU open skies pact, SIA news, fleet information,(wikipedia-singapore airlines) is pretty good.

have you flown with the air force before? if you do, they'd ask you stuff like stalling procedures, the engines on the s211, mechanics of flight..how planes fly.. stuff like that.

took me a couple of hours to go thru every single thread in this topic. but i think it was worth it. check it out too k?

anyway, brief intro on myself,
turning 25 on 19th may,
ex rsaf, chopped at BWC,
SG CHI,
first time applicant. :)

Indian Cadet Pilot Programme by SIA

Such a programme for Indians had been started by SIA and last date for entry was 10th March, 2007. I applied before that date. I have just completed my final year at school with Physics and Maths(in English). THe school result is awaited(expected to be out in May). I wanted to know how much time is generally taken by SIA in informing the selected candidates, and will this very fact that my school result is not yet declared, can this go against my selection. If I do not get selected, I plan to take my training to obtain CPL from Sydney at my own expenses.

So, any help from u frnds will be appreciated.(I am a newbie here).
Thanx

Degree

Greetings to all,

Took me quite a while to digest 42 pages worth of information as well as other relevant topics. :)

I would like to enquire if anyone know if 5 GCE credits is still applicable if you have a degree ?

I'm a Singaporean currently studying in Perth and about to graduate end of 07 with double major in management and marketing. I did my highschool and college in Perth. Would greatly appreciate anyone who can assist me. :ok:
