Those, (both ATCOs and flight crew) who think it sounds cool to shorten the phonetic alphabet eg "X", "pap", "fox" etc. Just makes you sound like a chimp.

I find that the seconds it takes to give the crew their slot whether they ask for it or not is far less time than it takes to deal with a flight that is either too early or worse, too late on a slot.

Non NATS Assistants can start anywhere between £10k-£14k. Pay is definitely better for NATS ATSAs.

Something else to consider when making this decision is that there has just been a Vacancy Notice out for valid ATCOs who want to retrain and do an Area course. Why not do a few years at an Airport...
