Having been lucky enough to fly long range on the 777, 747, A346, A332, A388, 787 and A359, I can confirm that flights on the last two types were much much comfortable than on the first five types....

Never had any A330 in their fleet.
Of course, there is a lot of communality between the various members of the A330/A340 family but...

It seems from what is written here https://www.airbus.com/newsroom/news/en/2021/02/airbus-sites-gear-up-for-a321xlr-s-major-component-assembly-phase.html, that the XLR is well beyond the paper phase.

Based on the "too big to fail" principle, US politicians will not allow such a strategic business to go down the drain.

Next level is "mandatory" but then the SB is covered by an AD and it's clearly outside...
