Mmmm ....
Its sort of mandatory .... due to age .... In the UAE Pilot license will no longer be renewed past age 65 ... and a person cannot be a Chief Pilot without having a pilot license .... sort of a 'catch 22' type situation.

Stacy.....seems there's some real Knobs about the place!
How many years you been skinning yer knuckles on Bell Mediums now....pushing 30 years is it?
I don't reckon I would go as far as you in dealing with a Multi-Tool wielding Knob....but I would hope they would buy one with nice smooth rounded edges. That way it would not hurt as bad when it got shoved up their stern tube!
Just call your mechanic/engineer if something needs fixing....that's their rice bowl! (....and they know what they are doing usually)
Your job is to break'em....theirs is to correct your damage.

I read all 19 pages in last two days, and now I m asking myself how did finish a story with Pilot135pd? Did he start in ADA ?
It was very interesting to read about that and after that he has just dissappeared?

Experience?????
I have an ATPL with IR and night and just under 20 night hours before it becomes unrestricted. I thought I was getting somewhere, but apparently not.
Everyone is asking for prior experience in all the co-pilot offshore jobs I am applying for, but how can you get the experience without first getting the job! Trying to figure out how the industry expects to keep acquiring pilots with experience without putting something back into the pilots. It's a cycle and if you break the chain, then it will stop some time in the future and then everyone will have to hand out endorsements, etc, anyway.
False economy if you ask me. The question is how to get around the 300 hrs or one year offshore experience demanded by the companies (or rather their clients) ? Or better, which companies are actually willing to give you a chance! Any ideas or comments would be helpful, pretty frustrated at the moment.

...I can't be entirely sure about this, but I suspect ADA hire Captains, and you need a tick in all the boxes required for that role. Most offshore operators at least have a night standby requirement...I don't know what ADA night experience requirements are but you certainly need an ATP for the offshore gig, and to get an ATP (in some jurisdictions) 100 hours night experience is a pre-requisite.
Experience requirements are often set by the clients, however sometimes there is flexibility there and that's something the employer will take up with the client on a case by case basis. I do know that, for the offshore operator in PNG, some pilots who don't get a tick in all the boxes have never-the-less been hired because they have strong general flying experience, and they initially fill a "co-Captain" role in a 2-pilot crew with a Captain who does have a tick in all the boxes.

There is another issue that has as yet not been mentioned ....
In the UAE if a company hires a basic CPLH holder he may with company sponsorship be able to apply for and obtain a UAE CPLH with the appropriate type endorsements.
As I understand due to some recent changes to the regulations .... If that pilot then has to obtain an ATPL he would HAVE to do ALL of the UAE exams necessary for the granting of that ATPL license ..... no exemptions.
If however he comes into the country with an ATPL he would be able to obtain a UAE ATPL after only completing the Air Law exam and proving competence in the aircraft.
So that is why companies would be more demanding with regard their selection criteria.

afzrotor. I admire and respect your honesty and integrity however there are many in this industry who have more hours in their logbooks than they have actually flown.
I have never had to resort to the practice but then again no employer has ever asked to see my log book.

In 2009 I was called for an interview for a PIC job on a british registered R44, based in italy. The FI/FE (and CAA inspector) did not care about my logbook, we just went for a half an hour flight.
In another interview for a first officer job with a bigger company running only twin engined machines, they just asked for a "self certification" of night, ifr and turbine experience.
I was not tested in flight.
