I've been following this thread for the last couple of weeks and I don't get the bashing. 135 in my opinion is just looking for answers. I don't blame him and would be doing the same thing myself. I don't know him but from reading his post's he in to details. So what.

I only wish that this forum would have been around when we went to Nigeria back in '87. I had lots of questions but few answers and had to learn things the hard way.

135, I hope all goes well. Keep us informed on what's going on.

Thanks Barry. Just as I said before, 1 step backwards and 5 or 6 forward. Got another email yesterday, 2 more weeks is what she said, we'll see...

I've always gotten such a high when I got a new job. I really feel sorry for those who have never experienced it. Hope it all works out. Keep us informed.

ADA Insider

I've been following this thread for a while and am reading a lot of guesswork about ADA. I've been with them for years and still here, so have obviously worked out a way to make it work for me.

Some wonder why ADA pilots don't contribute to this thread and I've have thought the reason would be obvious. First, our management reads PPRUNE too and any criticism of the company to 'outsiders' would go hard. Second; Supply and Demand. Why would we encourage more pilots to join ADA when a shortage means job security and the possibility of a pay hike?

I'm working in a foreign country where the people who write my cheques don't care about many of the things I do, professionally or otherwise, and I've had to adapt. It is often NOT easy to make the sacrifices necessary and I've seen literally hundreds of pilots and engineers come and go who weren't willing to sacrifice or adapt enough to stick it out, but take ADA as it is, not as it should be, and you'll be fine.

If you're willing to come over with a positive attitude, stay out of the politics and just do your job, you'll be fine. It's not easy to stay positive when it's 45 on the ramp, you're melting all over your un-airconditioned cockpit and your start is delayed another 20 minutes, but that's why it's called a JOB. Just think of that nice income meter running and the fact that you're going home on leave in only 41 days!

Any of you potential ADA employees want a PM, drop me a line.

I'm sure you understand why you write sometimes. Like I've said before, reading what some of you post here is more fun than flying !

Chill pilot135. If you are going to ADA then you'll need a sense of humour.

Do the pilots at ADA use helmets or headsets? Do I have to use the one that's company supplied (if they supply them) or can I use my own?

Dude wish you luck in the sand pit. Still remember the food on the street over there. Always liked Arabic ever since.

Helmets? Headsets? Personal GPS? Bring 'em if you want. New guys typically start as cojo on the 412 and it comes with both headsets and a very basic Trimble 2101. You will be expected to leave the GPS in your bag to start with and learn to navigate the fields with dead reckoning. Later you can use your GPS all you want.

Are there other pilots at ADA with a positive attitude? Of course there are. You'll hear over and over on this thread that it's the guys you fly with that make the job worth the rest of it, and that's all true. Whiners and complainers we have too but nobody really pays much attention to them. Listening to them just makes it harder to be here.

Yeah, and the food here can be great. Especially the Indian and Lebanese in the cheap restaurants downtown.

And don't forget to pack your sense of humour along with that helmet. You'll need it.

Wow, a 2101! That's what the old Boeing 727s used to have. What a flashback.

I guess this thread has run it's course. No more useful information from it. It'll probably just go back into obscurity for a while until someone revives it again. Hopefully by then some will have grown up and the next batch of pilots needing information will be able to ask a simple question and get a simple answer for all to read instead of having to resort to using the PMs. Thanks to those who helped, good luck to all and fly safe.

5am job offer...

I got the 5am job offer also. Called the chief back and was given the SIC position on the spot, pending the clearance of course.

Anyone in Florida fly back and forth to ADA? Or similar close states?

Love this thread......

Yes, but we've all been communicating by PMs or direct emails because of all the kids on this forum. So the Chief gave you the job, not the HR officer? Interesting

Stick me on the PM list...any info is appreciated.

Yeah, I was talking with the chief for a few weeks via phone and sent my resume a few times and he called about the SIC position, said it was mine if I wanted it.

Love FL but both the wife and I are ready for a change. May move back home to the UK and commute from there, don't know yet.

Where are you 135?

ADA

Pilot135 and others....

ADA has a history of taking on guy's between 45-55 with 10,000 hrs plus because these chaps need to feed the dragon and tend not to complain.
They get on with the job and write the figures on the tip of their caps when contemplating the crap around them.
They are in general as good as it gets and on par with any other operators in the world....
I understand the need to question, that's human nature, but at the end of the day you have to !!!! or get off the pot, there are no guarantees in this industry.
You take a blind throw sometimes in life....... That's called experience.

Good luck mate
