For any new copilot's starting at ADA here is a useful link:

Civil Aviation Regulations (CARs)

You should pay attention to Part III General regulations & Part IV, CAR OPS III (Helicopters)

Hope this helps

Training department will provide you with all of the material that you will need to pass the written. They have only been doing this for about 30 years, so the just might have it figured out by now.

Don't sweat the small stuff.

I think NewST works there. He was just explaining how the training department works. His advice on what to do to get the job should be good for you.

I no longer work at ADA but have worked there twice. I was just trying to say that the system is in place to get you your licenses. Trust the system and don't drive yourself crazy trying to second guess or pre-prepare for what is a pretty simple process. The best way to prepare for working at ADA is to learn patience! Things happen at their own speed and you will just drive yourself crazy trying to speed up a process that has been in place for years and years.

Good Luck and I hope your time over there is as much fun as mine was...

What year were you last there? I'm looking for current information to see if it's worth applying and you could help if you've been there recently..

3G iPhone

Any of you US pilots using an iPhone in the UAE on a US phone plan? If so are you getting the 3G coverage?

Cheers'

A silly question but, I've always carried a pocket knife with me since I was a kid, is it legal in the UAE to carry such a thing?

Cheers'

Start carrying a Leatherman fold up toolkit, it will have a small knife in and I know of a few people that claim to have done minor maintenance with one, panels off etc.

Concur on leatherman, but don't have a fone with a camera in it (unless the rules have changed). Security get all bent out of shape about such a device, off-shore. Been there, dne that! Safe flying ~ VFR

You shouldn't have any problems with a knife (no machettes!), but as vfr440 says anything with a camera on it is "iffy". Remember, you will be working in a logic free zone....

Any Pilot with a leatherman should be shot, smacked in the head thrashed to with in a inch of his life then burnt the rest of the way!!!, you don't do the maintenace, you are not qualified to do so!! put two hands and feet on the sticks and pedals and leave everything else alone.

If you think a leather man is a tool, your a bigger 'Knob' than you think you are, are you Canadian?
