My friend has been in touch and thought that our Nigeria mates would like the Bristow Libya pay cut explained to them before they sign up. It is quite logical really so here goes:
Apparently the local allowance in Nigeria is around $12,000 p.a. to compensate for some of the local 'difficulties'. You know, sometimes the golf course is waterlogged, beer occasionally warm, women can be too demanding, that sort of thing.
Whereas in Libya those 'difficulties' do not exist. The chaps therefore don't need money for golf fees, beer and women so obviously a pay cut is in order. How about 50%?
The coffee is very cheap though apparently.

Epiphany,
Tempting though it sounds (hate golf, love coffee ), I've had enough of the uncertainty of being here, the lack of information and the total lack of leadership from our management. Things used to be quite bad, and everyone here thought things would get better with a bunch new guys at the top, but they just got even worse and I don't think there's anybody who can make a decision any more.
I worked in the sandpit before and even though it wasn't enjoyable, I've had an offer to go back which I'm taking. It's gotta be better than Nigeria right now even though the money's less. I'd rather have less, but know it's coming in every month and I don't really like any of the alternatives available in Nigeria for the foreseeable future. I guess Fred will get a few good men out of this.

CHC leases aircraft to everyone in the world, including ACN and Bristow
Bristow obviously thinks its employees are pretty stupid though. Today they issued some BS documents about how the Chief Financial Officer has done a bail out with only a weeks' notice and how all Chief Pilots are now some kind of BS financial gurus. No information as to who fills these new new super-positions of course. I guess there's also no information to the people affected as to how they're going to be rewarded? All annual increments abolished and everyone wondering if they even have a job, let alone whether they're going to get a performance increase. You can just see it can't you - wow boy, you're just top of the $hit heap so you get a performance bonus this year - sorry, you're unemployed come September . Morale is just great .
Meanwhile the machine just rolls on with no direction or purpose. Akin, the great local hope with a brain twice the size of Africa, knows how to manipulate all the figures on a spreadsheet, without realising that 43% of all statistics are worthless or how to change figures into reality using people in place of computers. The Majah is still there dipping his fingers into everything and his Wacko Jacko clone is trying to do the same but with less experience than most copilots and the PG tips man sits on the sidelines accepting everything Wacko feeds him and making no decisions. Caverscam looks the more creditable option with every day that passes
NEO, are you still there or are you on the gangplank with all those lined up to jump ship?
SASless, how come you've gone all quite suddenly when you must know that your favorite Majah is still onboard?

Every pilot over the age 58 in Bristow is a contractor. There are around 15 or more in Nigeria, all are worried if they're still going to be employed in 3 months. Some may say, that they've had their chance, but they're about 10% of the numbers and most have 15,000 hours +. There are a whole lot of new guys out here or in training in USA. Can you replace all that experience with 200 hour pilots and keep a safe operation?

No. But when has safety ever mattered outside of Houston and Aberdeen? The posters say one thing but we all know it is different in real life. It's all about the money.
Anyhow my mate in Libya tells me that half of their pilots are over 60 years of age. "Must make rostering a bit of a problem" I said. "What roster?' he said.

Does anyone believe there's a connection between Bristow's demise in Nigeria and the fact that they've very recently opened an office in Kuala Lumpur (yes, again) responsible for marketing in South East Asia and the Middle East. An impulsive reaction to quickly find other contracts and keep aircraft and people employed perhaps.
OTD,
No need for me to add an Amen to the chorus.....you seem to be doing a pretty detailed job of pointing out the cracks in the foundation, leaking plumbing, and overall disaster befalling the second Toppest outfit in Nigeria....all by your lonesome.
The fact the Majah still surives in itself is telling of the pitiful plight extant. But then....one cannot argue with succes!
Bristow was known to create Mandarins and support them to the bitter end....no matter the facts of the situation. The Tea Bags are naught if only loyal to the brothers of their own peculiar secret handshake and holders of animal porn videos. No other reason they would do as they do.....I just wonder how those videos got made and where they are kept so securely so as to ensure one's longevity?

Saint Jack,
No I don't believe that for a minute. Bristow only heard couple weeks ago about Shell. Anyway, it's not even close to their demise in Nigeria. Most of the helos belong to Shell and only 3 of them are Bristow's. One which finished a couple days ago is now flying for Agip from Warri and S76 pilots are in short supply.
SAS,
PG tips isn't a tea bag, he's a septic tank .
No matter how bad, Bristow can never be as bad as Caverscam. ConDapter may be a reasonable company, but their Nigerian bride will probably bleed them dry after a few months of pleasure, then spit them out while they search for another sucker .
Mama Lolo,
What you on girl?
Rumour has that "Bi-Lateral transfer or is it demotion" is with AOS as an adviser

Looks as if Caverscam may screw Total into having them operate a B412. I doubt they'd know the pointy bit from the a$$ end of an S76

Look, it just suits Shell Aircraft to have a change and now Bristow is so dominate here as CHC spirals out of the country - that time is here.
Change is good to keep the advisors busy! If we keep contracting Bristow around the world how can we keep our adviory expertise??
Now they have finished relocating to Rotterdam its about time they get out and have a challenge. Sorry we are knifing some of you in the back but of you can't take a joke thats just tough.
Disposing of the 155s was always the posion pill in this contract and its nice the Great Danes like the 155.
Any PPRuNesters applying for our vacancy in Brunei?
Go on SASless you know it makes sense man!

Yes - just 96 hours left to submit an application:
www.bsp.com.bn
QUALITY AND SAFETY ADVISER (EXTENDED TO NON BRUNEIANS)
Purpose of Job:
. To establish and maintain a Quality Management System to monitor compliance with EASA/CAA/DCA regulatory requirements.
. To develop and maintain an effective Safety Management System.
If you are really good, once you have developed and established those systems and handed over to the locals to maintain perhaps you'll get the chance to head off to help Nigeria's new premier operator!

Shellie,
Job Security at its best!
Sorting out Brunei should take what....about a month....mostly waiting for the printer to spit out the necessary mountains of paper.
As to sorting out Nigeria....if you use the same "flexible" standards as before....about a week(including travel to and from) should do.
Then what will you lot do.....head to the GOM and try to sort out Boudreaux and Thibodeaux....that is a life long project all by itself Mate!

2 aircraft and 4 pilots (unless they've managed to find any more idiots or OAP's in the past couple of weeks) makes rostering a doddle.
Bristow was never known for having "spare" pilots!
