Top Ukrainian officials quit in anti-corruption drive A top adviser, four deputy ministers and five regional governors left their posts on Tuesday. Their departures come as Ukraine launches a broad anti-corruption drive. Recently, authorities have seen bribery claims, reports of officials buying food at inflated prices and one figure accused of living a lavish lifestyle. Senior aide Mykhailo Podolyak said Mr Zelensky was responding to a "key public demand" that justice should apply to everyone. The president has already banned state officials from leaving the country unless on authorised business. The first to resign on Tuesday was Kyrylo Tymoshenko, the president's deputy head of office, who oversaw regional policy and had earlier worked on Mr Zelensky's election campaign….. Deputy Defence Minister Vyacheslav Shapovalov also resigned, following reports he oversaw the purchase of military food supplies at inflated prices from a relatively unknown firm. The department called this a "technical mistake" and claimed no money had changed hands. The defence minister himself - Oleksii Reznikov - has been under scrutiny for the same reason. A host of other top officials were dismissed on Tuesday, including:
A crackdown is one of the EU's key demands if the country is to advance its application to join the bloc.….. |

Germany should know it best to stand up to bullies...and if not where it can lead. Poland, Estonia,Latvia, Lithuania have stood up against putins nuclear blackmail and escalation threats, and they have land borders. Give a bully an inch and they take a mile, 2014, fsb snipers in kiev, crowds taking over government buildings and police stations.... little green men in crimea. since the invasion putins been pushing the bayonet in and in, until it came to a stop at some steal. the steal wont last forever. And they are asking for tanks, half the tanks in Europe are leopards. support, logistics, PRACTICALITY. and governments want to give them. have since month one. V2s then, x-22s now. terror weapons. indiscriminate death, let alone Busha etc. if countrys want to give leopards for a good cause. Dont block them. |

Media reports that Germany will green light Leopard 2 deliveries tomorrow after the US decided to deliver main battle tanks as well. German ones and third country deliveries will get permitted. Parliamentary session happening tomorrow.
Russia had threatened Germany with "permanent changes concerning the bilateral relationship" if it would dare to deliver tanks before. Maybe this was what Scholz had waited for? |

The Countries that Germany want to be courting are the Western Countries that will be looking at rearming to restore their depleted stocks and of course Ukraine that will need years of help to rebuild their Countries infrastructure. As it stands Germany appears to backing the wrong horse while ostracising those Countries where their future growth could well come from. |

Strange isn’t it, Germany is worried about changes to their bilateral relationship with Russia that will in effect become a pariah state when everything is done and dusted.

I have found this YT blogger very good.
If anyone is interested in Russia's economy and how its income from Gas/Oil is looking really bad – I mean – not looking good at all, particularly after 5th Feb, then I highly recommend watching this guy. If the data is correct, then end of February's figures are going to be a show all... |
Help me out here.
It's my understanding that Russian, Ukrainian (who use Russian) and German tanks are smooth bore. Challenger is rifled bore. So what's the advantage of smooth bore over rifled and why does everyone use smooth? I was always lead to believe rifled = more range and accuracy? |

The choice of rifled barrel is to do with the UK's liking for HESH rounds which perform better when fired from a rifled barrel. Smoothbore is used for APFSDS fin/sabot rounds where rifled isn't an advantage. Challenger 3 will be smoothbore 120mm. |

Also, it takes energy to spin up the projectile, which would reduce the amount of energy available for muzzle velocity. So if the projectile is self-stabilized (e.g. with fins) then there is more energy to go into pushing the shell.
|
I think it may have to do with past doctrine where UK tanks up to Challenger 2 were more tied up with infantry support (where HESH is superior) than their counterparts which were / are aimed more at the tank on tank scenario.

Footage of evacuating a wounded, happened already in September but just released.. Things get a bit tricky in urban areas with lot of fences. Mostly in Finnish so turn the subtitles on. Love the calmness of the fella escorting his wounded pair.

Down side is that sabot rounds are pretty worthless against personnel. |
