Various reports that it Neptune ASMs in their land attack mode.

Russian Airbase In Crimea Erupts In Massive Explosions

….A senior Ukrainian military official with knowledge of the situation told The New York Times that Ukrainian forces were behind the explosion.

“This was an air base from which planes regularly took off for attacks against our forces in the southern theater,” the official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive military matters.

The official would not tell the Times what type of weapon used in the attack, saying only that “a device exclusively of Ukrainian manufacture was used.”….

Great! Now we need Count de Money to reenact his opening of the "Crimea" bridge by driving a truck loaded with 1.4S or with petrol... "Smile for the camera Vlad...."

Looking at the images of the airbase, it would seem the Rusks still haven't got the idea of dispersals correct.
Good tactics as far as I am concerned.
Perhaps the crews don't want to fight anymore, so parking their kit next to each other gives them the perfect excuse.

"Ooops sorry no planes, anyway I have done flying today."

Come, come Nutty. Those excellent fellows at the RuAF have confirmed that it was just a few bombs that blew up well away from any aircraft, and we know they wouldn't lie to us, don't we ? The Ukrainians probably used filters to add all that smoke . It will be interesting, however, to see the next edition or two of the Kyiv Independent tracker of Russian losses.

Can anyone explain to me where the advantage lies in telling the world that the the next American/British//French arms -shipment contains XYZ ? It simply seems mad to me - let them discover it when the missiles hit 200 km away or their radar installations are knocked out , but no prior knowledge. As far as I can see the only advantage lies in telling the world that another $ 200 00 000 package is on the way to tell the Russkies, the world , that the support continues.

I suspect it is for home consumption. To be seen to be doing something.

It sends a message to the Ukrainian people they are not alone.

It sends a message to Russia that the supplies will continue to be sent, and will continue to escalate in range and sophistication.

It send a message to the rest of NATO to keep providing support.

It sends a message to China, and the other nations in that area, they should reconsider if they think the USA will not support it’s allies if they come under threat.

We may have just witnessed the greatest single day of losses for the Russian Air Force, ever.

From satellite 4 hours before the explosions, I count 37 jets and 6 helicopters.

The explosions were spread out, across the area. So, maybe targeting groups of aircraft.

I see in the latest list they are getting claymore’s, that will slow down any incursions.

Unclear to me . Do you mean Western consumption ? If yes, this completely ignores my question about giving the Russkies forward information about new weapons.

Well, I sincerely hope that that represents the flight-lines rather than the car-parks as shown in the initial video. It would be marvellous if this showed the RuAF being blown to pieces.

Teach them not to line them up neatly in a war zone….

Probability that all these destroyed and reports elsewhere of 8 SU-24s destroyed so at least a couple of revetments/pans seem to have been targeted.

It lets the 'European-Russian' REMF's know that they're just as likely to be hit as the 'Asian-Russian' grunts they care so little about. There are already anecdotal reports of widespread desertions and anything that fosters a sense of hopelessness and fear among these bastards is all to the good. They are being hurt badly now. It's going to get worse and there's nothing they can do about it.

Rumoured to be 40 aircraft destroyed, who in their right mind would put all the assets in one spot and not disperse them.. ohh wait we do.

The destroyed barracks might be just as crucial - if that was the accommodation block for the deployed SU-24 aircrew…
