Red White and Blue Voyager
Airbus wouldn’t let BA paint the upper surfaces of a A319 red when the aircraft was put in a retro BEA scheme last year.
Bluster without fact again., why do we put up with this walt who seems to be an expert on everything? Still waiting for some facts or documents to back up your post . Being rude just exposes you as a charlatan.
Yes, both of BEA's two final schemes featured those trademark red wings (upper and lower surfaces). Having spent many happy hours admiring them in the early part of my career (both from the cabin on ID90s and duty trips, and from the taildock on major checks), I was among those disappointed when BA couldn't replicate them on the retro A319, for both technical and safety reasons.
But regulations are regulations. Here's how BA broke the news in 2019 (sorry about the excruciating headline): BEAutiful British Airways liveried aircraft takes to the skies

It really matters not - I suggest that it would be impossible to create a paint-job that appealed to all. Or, even a majority.
We now know what it is - and we could all have tweaked it to suit our own tastes.
But that is what it is, so why not accept that it is better than a grey machine on the international stage.
Perhaps, even, support it as a way of portraying the UK around the world for those who merit its use for VIP travel - whilst also fulfilling its important role as a tanker.
It could always be painted again in different colours if it is really wrong - but at least it has provided a brief change from the dreary CoVid-19 daily news coverage.
I say - great - different - shows it is a UK machine - let's enjoy it and criticise - if we have to - other things/people, and stop criticising ourselves.

It looks deeply naff.

Painted Voyager
I’ve only just got round to looking at pictures of it.
What exactly has all the fuss been about? Of course you can’t please everyone. I like it (I agree the registration should have lined up with the rest of the writing) and I think it’ll be better received in other countries than a grey jet.
If I’m honest I think many people on here need to take a long, hard look at themselves and ask why they are complaining. Does everything make you miserable? Have you got better things to worry about?
We are all strong personalities and of course we all think we know best but sometimes it’s best just to accept things and move on.
If you really think that a jet in 1960’s livery would look better then maybe you need to accept that your views are from a bygone era and probably don’t align with the views of the people who are currently serving.
Just as I can accept that there is no place for the Jaguar in the RAF of the 2020’s I think some other posters need to accept that times have moved on.
I know this is my standard whinge and it’s been a while since I’ve made it but one day I hope people will listen.

Strangely, the Germans usually manage to get theirs the right way round.

We're talking about our feelings of national identity, and if I find that understatement is part of being British, and brashness isn't, then the tail does not strike me as appropriate.
The fact that I am old enough to prefer cheat lines to swirls, and to think that the 1960s RAF-TC livery was one of the best ever, is a different question altogether, IMO.
YMMV.

I quite like it, the stripe is not so in your face as the original sketch inferred and works well, I agree about the registration and you can see why they have done it, it is to align with the top of the blue line, but that said it's too big and needs to move down and align with the United Kingdom.
Having been involved in the past on several military repaints I am surprised no one involved piped up and it was altered on the fly, as an example of some of the errors we used to get on the drawings, we either approached the liaison or we simply changed them ourselves. we repainted the RN wetdreams in the distant past and the drawing showed the blue cheat line as shown and then the roundel on it, but as the outer ring of the roundel is the same colour as the cheat line, it would have ended up with a white circle with a red dot, therefore we added the white circle to correct it

I wonder if the red was a temperature issue?
When the RAF bought the Slingsby as a trainer they had to get agreement with Slingsby to have them painted in yellow, the fibreglass wings being very temperature critical, indeed even the none slip walkways were usually white.
They then bolstered the fleet by adding G- HONG and KONG ( from Hong Kong naturally ) and put them through the spray shop to match the rest of the Hunting fleet In Yellow..... when Slingsby learnt of it, they were required to put them back through paint shop to revert to white, due to being and earlier version and being even more temp critical.
Luckily for the paint shop when looking at removing the yellow paint, one of the guys found that it hadn’t bonded correctly and literally peeled off as one sheet. The paint company agreed it was faulty so provided the new paint for free.

Paint: I remember when 74 Sqn celebrated their escape from fin-painting rules at the time of the creation of STC ... as there was no extant order preventing it. Accordingly, the following morning 74’s line at Tengah sported a handful of Black-Fin Lighnings.
Within 2 days, most of the paint had gone from the fin leading edges rearwards, creating a slightly tatty appearance. The problem was subsequently resolved, somehow!
