Hoskins was keen to launch a Sidewinder at it...

Buster, surely a Sparrow would have been a better choice?

Considering the Sparrow has a longer range than the Sidewinder, I feel the latter would be the better choice in this instance. Initially, I would have suggested the AIM9-D as a proven platform however, considering the camouflage employed on the intended target, I feel the AIM9-L would be the better choice, especially as it has the enhanced background discrimination capability.
The AIM7-M, with its dual stage motor & longer range is just plain overkill if you ask me. I will, however, concede that the AIM7-P is an intriguing choice with its inverse monopulse seeker & improved low altitude performance, ideal for this type of target.
Having said that...if you were comparing the word Sparrow as both a missile and a bird, then I see your point.

Yep, although two lots of feathers may confuse Hoskins in his quest.

Now we know why they are called "Bird Men"!

Or....

The USAF, forced to re-equip the Thunder Birds Demo Team, are changing the Team Name to Thunder Chickens.

Whilst the wings were great, the drumsticks were a little disappointing.

"Yes.... yes...... it's electrically powered, it's a Battery Hen."

Or

Gone is the problem of oil stains all over the hangar floors, however we now spend all day sweeping up the Chicken ****.

Or

It'll never catch on, it might look cool, but it fair gobbles fuel.

Flightglobal ad: Airfield bird control pilot required for immediate start, type rating essential, Canadian Geese clearance experience would be advantageous - contact Egbert Rooster at Feather flight aviation.

Really some outstanding captions, I think, and it's bloody hard to choose between them. I could have picked any of a dozen, but here goes with my top 3:

3rd - Plastic Bonsai with
Scruggs Aviation presents their new bantam fighter.
2nd - Fox3 with
Biggles did indeed now possess "the biggest cock of any pilot", but realised he'd have to word things much more carefully the next time he discovered a genie's lamp.
and the winner:

Buster with
The French wanted to put jet engines on it, until we pointed out it would be called Le Coq Sucker...
Thanks for the laughs everyone, and over to you, Buster

Awww...thanks AotW!

At this point, I'd like to send a cheerio to Nutty, who's probably in recovery as we speak...

Here's an old favourite but, on behalf of all of us here at the caption comp, I'd like to let Kim Jong Un know that we all miss his Dad...
