"Ethel, here's one: What's the difference between the Telescope, Identification, AA, MkIII, and the Coach & Horses?"
"I don't know, Peggy, what is the difference between the Telescope, Identification, AA, MkIII, and the Coach & Horses?"
"The Telescope, Identification, AA, MkIII has very accurate optics, Ethel."

I never realised before that night vision goggles were meant to make everything look as if it was night.

Well spotted, PW. Although the Imperial War Museum list this device as "Telescope, Identification, AA, MkIII (Rangefinder, cased)", if you read the 1938 instructions here there is no mention of any rangefinding going on at all. In fact, it is two telescopes laid end-to-end; the junior ATS girl would pick up the intruder using the low-power telescope, then the senior ATS girl would identify it using the high-power side, and the azimuth and elevation would be read off and passed to the central computer (human!).]
Ah! Thanks for that, Brother of Jim. You can learn something new every day. The device might come in useful against drones one day. PW

During the Blitz, Betty and Doris took their job as night time air raid wardens very seriously, even in day time.
As the offense occurred in total darkness....Sherlene and Deana were required to identify the suspects in conditions similar to the time in question. Nutty and Buster were satisfied they were safe due to lack of evidence.

"Stop fiddling with your glasses, Ethel, straighten your tie and stand up straight! The Boss said we should make an exception and really try to look as if we know what we're doing for the publicity photo."
