Yes, it seems that a change in philosophy as to unexperienced new hires has been made in QR, espacially after this year´s "Spanish hangover" (no offence to my spanish friends). But it certainly does not mean that QR is pouring sulfuric acid into our blue pool to make us dissolve into oblivion.

Into every each of us, QR has already invested not a totally unsignificant amount of time, money and effort and the selection process has been fair, just as iQatar has suggested (winning a group assesment does not make one a better pilot).

QR will clear the backlog of those still interested once it is clear that the new airport will truly be opened, thus new aircraft will be able to arrive, thus new pilot are needed. Then we can all rejoice and fly happily ever after :ok:.

I also keep thinking positive,i dont see there is anything wrong about Qatar asking CTC to do some of their training. They probably have lack of instructors and use a training provider of good reputation to help them with the training,there is nothing wrong with that. But ofcourse if CTC was chosen to be their sole training provider (which is a really small probability in my opinion) then this is definetely a wrong choice,I can see the paytofly scheme would be the next step after this.
I agree with you geronimo,the delay of the new airport is probably holding everything back. When would the airport be ready? Anyone has a clue?

If you join as a FTSO/NTSO, you will be a FO after line training is complete. The CTC lot arrives in Doha partially type rated. When they have finished line training they will be FO's. So no, they dont join as FO's, on day one. I think its a typo, or just integrated school/CTC marketing.

Congrats to Laura for getting the position. But the grass is not always greener on the other side - it is better to come with your eyes WIDE OPEN and know what to expect... Not sure how familiar people are with the current rosters at QR - they are not like the ones you would see at BA. The position with Qatar will no doubt be great for flying experience, but let's see how long Laura will enjoy this type of roster on the A320 (copied from previous Pprune post):

Day 5. report 0035, one sector for layover in India, land at 0615.
Day 6. wake-up-call 0400, land DOH 1130, followed by min-rest.
Day 7. report 0040 for regional turn-around, land DOH 0610.
Day 8. off
Day 9. report 1515 for three-sectors, Gulf turn-around, followed by layoverIndia.
Day 10. land at outstation 0130 (layover), wake-up-call 2330.
Day 11. land DOH 0620. followed by 17hrs 25min rest.
Day 12. report 0015, regional turn-around, land DOH 0620.

They actually gave me duty on my day off on day 14 (without asking), but Ireported sick for that day.

You will get a pattern like this almost every month.

Just spoke recently to a few 320 drivers ,and roster did definitely improve.Qatar invested a huge amount into a system which actually calculates the hours but also looks after the rhythms of the body.
I so far ,have not met any unhappy crew .

Will not discuss anything else ,this is a fact and people told me this ,if they told me the truth ,I'm quite sure they did .

As we indicated mid-year, we would continue to offer updates on our manpower requirements to those pilots in our talent pool. The good news is that we have been steadily employing pilots from the talent pool over the past few months as our manpower requirements for 2013 become clearer. To give you some indication of our hiring trends for the coming 12 months, we will see an easing of the requirement for Second Officers, there is likely to be no further recruitment of Fast Track Second Officers, a reduced requirement also for First Officers and an increasing requirement for direct entry Captains, particularly those who qualify for wide body aircraft command. It remains our intention to draw the majority of these requirements from the existing talent pool members.

You will also have noticed that we have launched a new candidate management system that means you will not be able access your original application. Your original application is still held by us and we will continue to use it as our pilot talent pool database. Occasionally we will place specific pilot vacancies on our website careers section for limited periods, only if we need to supplement the talent pool in areas where we may have a shortage; otherwise all manpower requirements for the next year will be drawn from the talent pool. Additional good news is that we have eased some of the training limitations we have faced this year and expect to be able to move new joiners through their training at a much faster rate.

Our next update will be sent to you in February 2013 and I expect that some of you will begin to receive joining dates for next year between now and then. Once again we thank you for your patience and continued interest in joining the Qatar Airways Flight Deck team.

Yes also received the same Nov update- Does it mean then they will only mostly be taking on DEC' wide body? (Apart from a trickle of first/second officers)

Confirmed. We will see an easing of the requirement for Second Officers? No need for fast track second officers? Does that mean they will employ those in the Talent Pool and not further asses new ones?

....... Perhaps the wording is that "recruited" means those already in the holding pool but yet to receive joining dates.......

maybe wishful and hopeful thinking..........

At least we have received something! Of course we all would have liked it to be a firm joining date but we are kept in the pool without mentioning anything about a supposed 12 months validity of our selection. So not all bad after all...

Indeed, I was discussing this with a friend at home. The update leaves room for interpretation. What do they mean with 'recruitement'? Assesing new candidates and placing them in the pool, or taking suitable candidates out of the pool and offer them employment? I hope for the first, I fear for the last.

Did u get a update today .? I interviewed in feb 2012 signed the contract in May and then in July got the talent pool email. Since that email I have not heard a single thing .On my contract I put down a DOJ for Oct . So since my last email in July regarding the hold pool I have not got any news.
