Hi Guys and Gals,
I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on what is going on with EK recruitment and interviews. I was scheduled to interview July22-24. Received a vague e-mail last night that the simulator has been canceled for those days. It did not say why or if the rest of the interview is still on (I am assuming not as I know this is the first step). It also said that the interview classes are full for the next three months so I will be put into a pool for sometime after that.
I responded offering to switch sims (from 310 to 777) and have gotten no response.
Any idea why just one class or sim would be canceled?
Thanks in advance for any info. It is much appreciated.

Read Emirates hold pool and Interview results. In my opinion they either are slowing down interview and hiring either because they overestimated the amount of interviews needed to fill slots or they are going to reduce some flying or frequencies on a few routes. It seems they are reducing all costs possible in order to present a good end to the fiscal year. Some 777 delays and the A380 taking Jfk flying form the 777 plus Durbon suspended and LAX and SFO Delayed. It seems the Oil prices are eating into every Dept budget. Lets Hope for the best.

777's from boeing delayed due to supplier problems. price of oil has very little to do with emirates growth. emirates wants as many planes as possible. heard courses for the rest of the year are full. if your looking at emirates. don't expect a job offer until the end of the year. if you don't have airbus or boeing time. it might be longer. good luck

Thanks for the info. guys. I have plenty of Airbus and Boeing time, but just wasn't sure if it was a problem with my interview/ application or a blanket cancellation of interviews. I received another e-mail from recruitment today. It said that both simulators had been canceled for July 22-24 but that I would be given another date ASAP.

I just got back from a Dubai interview. The last 3 interview groups to go started with about 8 guys and was cut by day 3 to just about 3 guys. From those 3-4 maybe 2-3 will actually be hired. While I did well in most areas and have high time and have done very well in past interviews and sim rides, I too was cut. It was very dissapointing. The fact is that they are full of class dates through the end of this year and they have a holding pool on top of that. There are some delays with the Airbus and the 777. You are lucky to have an interview cancelled now. It is better to wait for when they actually want to hire people. Just 2 months ago the pass rate was much higher, esp. to get moved on to day 3. If you do keep your interview pay for some practice sim time in the 310. It is well worth the money. Also even if you are an Airbus guy like me, ask to be on 777. The 777 sim guys have a much higher pass rate. They also are getting about 200 apps. a week. By the way, it use to be that they were looking at the person more. Now they are just looking at times and numbers, way more than other carriers do. The fact that they send qualified people home before ever talking to them face to face is amazing. It is a waste of time and money for both Emirates and the candidate. Some of the guys sent home were great people with lots of experience and great work ethic. One guy kept in our group was obnoxious, annoying, and arrogant. Definitely not someone you want as your captain. I would not be upset by a cancelled interview at this point. You want to wait until you actually have a better chance of getting the job. Good luck. We loved Dubai and would have moved there with the intent of retiring there. The lifestyle there is very appealing and the service and friendliness of many was amazing. The housing is a real issue. We were shown the ugly, small orange condos. Compared to Silicon Oasis this was very dissappointing and more like the projects. If people end up there, I hope they will stand up and say it is not tolerable. It is like one pilot having a $2 million dollar home while another is given a $750,000 home. Be patient and try to remember to look at what is best in the long run....a delayed interview or no job offer.

Gonoles is correct, the A310 is not easy I would recommend even renting a A300B4 sim, its the same airplane. In the USA they have one in CVG and in Europe in CDG and BRU. I did the interview in May and maybe things have changed but It seemed to me they were looking at the person. Im in the holding pool but 2 guys in my group actually got class dates. Dont know the rest but i think the other guys havent got a response. Good luck to all

Ive completed the EK interview twice once for each seat.Two different formats.IE once with sim at the end and once with it at the beginning. Sucessful both times. Just relax do what you do and get on with it. I completed it (5 yearsago)when nobody complained on here about the standards and again since they have been complaining. I can assure you all there is no change in the level you are expected to reach. It is not however rocket science,nor a indication of your worth as a pilot. Failing doesnt mean your a bad pilot just as passing doesnt improve you as indicated from some of the attitudes on these boards.Just an indicator of their requirements. Too much preparation about stuff you dont know and youll come across as someone who is on edge and you wont shine.


Be enthusiastic but fatalistic and if its for you youll get it. Or as the EK chaps say...be yourself.
As for hold pools I dont know but I asked for a deferment for joining and got it no problem. The job may be there at the end of my deferrment , maybe not, but it wont be because EK were not helpful if not a little slow in the first instance.

I had only two of my referees checked as well, on the very first week after the selection. A friend that flies for EK said they actually need two referees and ask you to list three to have a back up one. It happened to other guys.

Is there anyone who knows of examples of guys going 10,11,12 weeks or
more and then hearing something.

I don't hear of many rejection letters, but I hear many examples of no
responce at all.

11 weeks and counting and not a word, Skysod should be in week 12 or more weeks. My ref's still haven't been checked. Heard from a friend and this is what he said,

"Was in the new HQTRS today, and asked around about the rumor mill,was told only that there is a pool, training is delayed due to lack of gallies for the 777, only one more delivery this year vs planned 6.Classes are full through Nov. If you have not heard anything thats a good thing, housing is at a premium and not much available. No real need to hurry into an Apartment if you have a family.. Thats all I got from the rumor mill here in Dubai. Hang in there, this is still much better than flying for a US Major."

This info is a week old. Those that are e-mailing EK HR, are getting polite "please be patient".

Hey I appreciate the kind words from the guys on here to be patient....but for the America guys out there like myself. Waiting 14,15, 16,17, 18 weeks in uncertainty is a bit crazy right now...... So, we better start working whatever else maybe available...( "Do you want to super size that sir!"). yes! I know! not much else out there. And trust me, I feel your pain. But we all know most of us (oh yeah! some of us) are counting down to walking the streets at some places. Having had a great experience with the Emirates interview...it's a bit disappointing not to have a courtesy email. Either the one that says we don't need your services or hang in there we want to hire you sit tight. Or even a hey we were desperate for guys before and now we have the pick of the guys in America in a few weeks when the carnage begins......your 737 time while desireable at the time you applied doesn't quite cut it. hey! At least it's honest.....as opposed to silence! now before the Brits, Aussies, South Africans etc etc start in on how Americans are so spoiled and demanding ( here we go!). A good number of other guys I interviewed with are waiting as well and they are not Americans. This game playing may well be the right of Emirates (since they're doing the hiring) and in accords with what they have to do business wise. But it still feels a bit rude to totally ignore emails when most of us were told to do so at the 6-8 week mark which has come and gone for most of us. So, is this the side of Emirates that wasn't shown in the interview phase? Is there more we don't know, I wonder? Hmmm

I am sure it's disappointing to wait that long of a period only to hear that sort of news. The no is disappointing but waiting 11 weeks stings a little....I am sure mine is on it's way. But I am getting back on the biking as we all must and try a different avenue.

Just got an email telling me my interview was canceled in August, Said the dates were not available and I would be rescheduled at a later date. Anyone heard this happening recently??

Yes--my scheduled interview for July 27-29 just got cancelled due to "operational circumstances". Perhaps a future slot, she said. She'll have to advise later........

Also got the same email. I was going to be there with yukimaki on the 27-29 July. Oh well, on to the next one.
