Maybe I should book that VCC training slot now?

Was he really now? Funny how the story only broke on the 7th September (the day after the meeting) and not a dicky-bird about it beforehand. Why didn't he express silent support for the colleague that this chap actually assaulted? You'll note GBH is a criminal offence and would lead to the assailant losing his airside pass anyway. How about at the next meeting you all pitch up with a red armband, replete with swastika and 'BASSA' emblazoned across the middle to show support for the other participant in this unseemly affair?

I think your being a little unfair here! We do not have the full facts and the article is clearly one-sided. I admit the timing is impeccible, but without the full facts, we only have half the story.

No, it is yet another example of a BASSA member not thinking about the possible consequences or conclusions that others will draw as a result of his actions. Crass and insensitive.

Colonel White is right. That particular individual wearing the Star of David was named and it was stated on the Sky News report that he had been sacked from BA.
Also shown was the woman who took her two young children sporting yellow T shirts stating "BA sacked my mum". The young boy had his hands over his ears when the camera panned in, presumably to block out the loud cries, shouts and chants (I hope he also blocked out the likely foul language that is usually prevalent at these meetings). To me, he looked distressed by the whole situation. It made very uncomfortable footage.
With this sort of inappropriate, insensitive-to-others (including their own children) behaviour blatantly on public display it perhaps goes some way to explaining how some managed to get themselves dismissed in the first place. Allegedly.
I am BA cabin crew and this is my own viewpoint and not that of BA.

1 - How can former BA staff still be members of Bassa?
2 - Surely if somone was sacked by BA, there is a reason behind it, or are all crew sackings seen as wrong and an evil these days.
3 - The article is totally onesided. Has UK journalism stooped so low to print half of an un-verified bar arguement and put a company into disrepute? (I found amusing that an LY banner advert appeared when I clicked on the article).
4 - Was the person wearing the star of david saying that BASSA is being treated by BA in a similar manner to the way Jews were treated during the war?
When will BA and Unite decide enough is enough. Occurances like this bring down the reputation of both Unite and the Airline.

CW, you missed my point entirely! It is not the actions of this individual in them blindly supporting a sacked colleague, but the references to racist behaviour on both sides and racist comment on this forum, even if they are just suggestions. This is not the place to bring your personal predudices.

It's interesting that this story has met with comments such as "No surprise", "Should have happened years ago", "An accident waiting to happen", "Was on his tenth life". It seems this individual was no stranger to trouble.

Some people never learn......
That's right, get a big YES vote to send a strong message to Willie and force him to negotiate. How many times has that been tried (and failed) so far? Ironic that the posters name is Numptey!
Topic: Vote YES even if you do not want to strike
Posted: Today at 13:35After reading the postings on BASSA and here, it appears a strike ballot may be on its way at some point. Please vote YES. Even if you don't want a strike. The reason being it adds more weight to the cause, and can actually evert one. If the YES vote is a huge one along with the returns, it could help the on going troubles come to a quicker end. Get me? Anyone voting NO, just like the volunteers, you will be drawing things out even more, when this could all have ended long ago.The threat with a huge YES majority behind it is just as important as the action. SEND your ballot paper in and vote YES .

The other point that makes me suspect that this is someone ripping the pish is that AFAIK nobody has actually tabled the ballot wording - the show of hands at Kempton was for industrial action, but was there any mention of the basis for such action ? Did anyone check whether the branch was providing assurances that staff were protected from dismissal for going on strike ? Bet nobody even bothered to ask the question. Of course if they had, they would probably have been torn to pieces by their colleagues.
I get the sense that there is a rather macho culture springing up within the BASSA membership. 'I'm dead hard because I've been on strike for 22 days, lost my staff travel, lost a bucket load of pay, I've sabotaged the galley sinks, but nobody's tumbled it was me. I've written loads on places like the Guardian comment pages slagging off BA, I've been really nasty to VCC and thise scbs who broke the strike, I turned down the BA offer cos management are liars and I'm gonna vote for strike action and if it costs me my job, well, it just proves how hard I am !!!'

The untouchable....
...or not? Looks like Duncans boasts of being untouchable were a little premature.....
Mr Tomorite justs stumbles from one catastrophe to another!
A rep has told me tonight that, following allegations from BA, Duncan has been "invited" to Heathrow Police station, with a solicitor, next Wednesday to be questioned about things he has posted on this forum about strike breaker WW CSD ***** ******.

Re: the untouchable
Can't see the Unite leadership wanting to have much to do with him if he winds up in court. Not sure that an Employment Tribunal will look sympathetically on his case either - I'm assuming that he is still appealing against dismissal, although there seem to be some suggestions that he resigned before BA sacked him, in which case I can only assume he is trying to prove constructive dismissal. Regardless, it doesn't bode well, particularly if he has been advised to bring a brief.
Well, it had to happen! DH has courted danger for so long that he was probably beginning to think he was immune! Now he is going to have to face the police about malicious communications and harassment allegations. Allegedly! Given his public pronouncements on various matters I would say he is in deep poo, up to his eyeballs and rising.
So BASSA believers, how vulnerable do you all feel now?

I find it amazing how they always refer to DH as 'a sacked BASSA rep'. Whilst it is, on the face of it, true it infers, from the previous spouting of the Socialist Worker, that he was one of those 'unfairly' dismissed.
Those in the know realise that DH was sacked for not turning up to work. Nothing unfair or bullying about that. The sooner that the Socialist Worker realises that Union work is NOT Gods work then the sooner they can print a balanced article.
The only divisive action I have seen has been the BASSA crew members sporting their XXXX T-Shirts down route, their XXXX baggage tags at work and their stickers proclaiming themselves Bedfont heroes.
Sad really.

A bit of google research suggests this offence could attract a maximum of 6 months imprisonment or a £5000 fine

I've just watched the Sky item with the star and the kids. I feel sick. Those poor little children looked terrified and if their mother was responsible, she wouldn't bring them to such a place. Also, I know the star-wearer's wife....
