Right!... My Go Now.

We've plumbed new depths today (How often have I written this for what I thought would be the last time) with the discussion about the remembrance of the Manchester disaster.

dave3 - BASSA communications asked members to wear yellow in order to express their solidarity with sacked and suspended colleagues. Therefore it is unreasonable for the union to communicate this and then for members to chastise people for taking the union at its word. If you are unhappy with this fact, then it is up to you to express your disapproval to those within BASSA who chose to make that statement.

"Shame on you" and other such expressions of disapproval are merely an attempt to bludgeon others into agreement, using emotional blackmail and will not be tolerated. People died in Manchester, unpleasantly: While we are anxious for all sides to be argued on PPRuNe, there are limits. The cynical use of the deaths of so many people, including crew, may be viewed as acceptable to BASSA, but not here.

It would make me (personally) very happy if there were to be no more discussion about Manchester - without the 'oxygen of publicity' this aspect will wither and die in the public arena.

I have read this thread for some time with great interest. something I saw on SKY news yesterday shocked me into joining the forum in order to post.

The Sky reporter outside the meeting venue stopped a crew member to ask his views. My eyes could not believe what I saw...he was wearing a yellow Star of David with the word BASSA printed in the middle!

This must rank as the most disgusting, vile misuse of such a terrible symbol of hatred and oppression the world has ever known.

I hope UNITE saw it and realise what this kind of thing does for their credibility.

Well, it's quite apparent that the militants, as per their gleeful postings, are hell bent on endeavouring to damage our company in 'spreading the word' regarding their IA and so affecting our forward bookings.
I'm angry. I'm b1oody angry. I've just been thinking of all the change my department have gone through over the years. The increased workload. The contracting out of work. The redeployment. The fact that I cannot remember the last time I had a pay rise. Additionally, the working for 'free' of many employees in helping us through the downturn.
And, not only do these militant hot heads undo all our hard work, they now continue their best to screw us financially.
I view this as an attack on all the honest decent staff members of BA. I hope they go on strike and find themselves no longer employed by the company. I would never wish anyone to find themselves unemployed, but when the actions of these hot heads jeapardizes my very future, and that of many of my colleagues, I can only conclude with that mindset.
Good will prevail!

Seething with rage here too. Must be put into perspective though, these are the minority and soon will become irrelevant to BA's operation.

I too find it quite appalling that the Crewforum bunch of self-congratulatory Bassinine twerps are falling over themselves to demonstrate the amount of business they can force away from BA.

They are competing with themselves to persuade as many people as possible to cancel bookings with BA and to fly with other carriers - to cancel accounts and to profess an intention to NEVER book Hotlines with BA again.

What are they after? Could one of them (and I know you read this forum) please explain how the financial failure of BA is going to help their position? Revenue from passengers is what pays our wages - it pays your pension - and it gives us job security.

If you think reduced passenger numbers will result in WW being ousted, a new CEO being introduced who will reinstate more cabin crew, cancel Mixed Fleet and return IFCE to the good old days of having Bassa run the department and hose cabin crew down with cash at any sign of disruption, then you're all sadly mistaken.

Is there any strategy here that is aimed at achieving any particular aim?

Yes, thankfully they are the minority, but I get so wound up at their intransigent, puerile, self important attitude.

More time in the bunk, not mindful of where their wages come from?

I wonder what any company would make of it if an employee went on an internet forum deliberately encouraging customers to use the opposition...

ah, let them get on with it. Even anyone you speak to outside of the industry says they're finished - unfortunately for them (ie: crew brainwashed by the sainted DH), they're so wrapped up in the spin-bubble, they can't see it, sadly.

I would call it secondary industrial action, possibly?

The crew seem happier nowdays, because they realize the strikers are in the minority. They openly admit to being strike-breakers, or non-union workers. They , including CSDs, regularly have told me they worked through the strike and have signed the contract, and the more ridiculous BASSA become the more they are happy to distance themselves from the whole image.

There will be more non-yellow pens in the briefing rooms than yellow ones if it was to get to that silly stage. In fact there will be no yellow pens in the briefing rooms if it gets to another "strike" and we are running 100%

But I don't think it will. Unite have much bigger fish to fry now with the public sector expected to slash up to 25% this Autumn. A bit embarrassed about BASSA I would say Unite were, especially losing many of their own BASSA and Non-BASSA members over this affair.

I was asked by someone the other day about Christmas bookings, and I said, we'll be flying 100% of the longhaul programme whatever the minority of militants do, and in any case, they are running out of reasons to call for strikes in my honest opinion, so it will probably never get past the courts.

Yellow clothers sign of solidarity...
Just chucked my golfing socks in the bin. Wouldn't want them mistaken as a sign of anything other than a poor golfer.

Although I appreciate that the language you use is, perhaps, intended to be magnanimous, I think it is fair to say that the majority are now of the opinion that there is nothing 'unfortunate' or 'sad' about it any more. The sooner the selfish dross amongst the cabin crew drum themselves out of BA the better! If that means those individuals facing a life of destitution, then tough! With their juvenile attitude, they deserve all the pain and discomfort they have earned themselves. Buffoons.

Abbey Road, yes a degree of magnanimity, but perhaps more understanding?

I do know (being a long time member of cabin crew no longer in Bassa, having resigned some years ago from them) the majority of cabin crew to be decent, hard working people and I genuinely feel sympathy because I believe mass brain-washing has taken place - being constantly bombarded with mis-information and blaming everyone else being the method. (see brainwash - Definition of brainwash at YourDictionary.com).

In time, I hope that Bassa/Unite get legal action taken against them by people who have suffered as a direct result of their bad representation.

Over on the BASSA forum they are now most upset that Virgin Atlantic have resolved their dispute with their pilots. No doubt the BASSAmentalists were hoping for a strike to bolster their "Up the workers!" cause but now all they have is a responsible employee group negotiating with management to achieve a non-armageddon outcome. Still, it provides another opportunity to study the mindset of the serial fantasists over there. This gem from the poster 'ROSIEGIRL my posts for bassa forum only not to be copied in any form'

I believe that the BALPA arm of VS wrote to the BA arm to express disgust at there action in effectively condoning strike breaking by standing by and doing nowt
Gotta love it. Of course no such letter exists or was sent, but the BASSAmentalists love to boost each other by making things up and passing them off as truth to each other.

So correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't a certain DH/BASSA take a few quid from everyones subscriptions - if he wanted to support the troops, in this time of hardship, then why doesn't he forgo this money whilst the strike is on ?

It's amazing how some people are so keen and willing to jump on the bandwagon and shout from an uninformed point of view.

The person concerned was actually expressing silent support for a colleague over the following - BA crew: I was ?red after pro-Nazi row | The Jewish Chronicle

Puts a slightly different slant on it - doesn't it.

Oh that would have been such poetic justice...........having told all their friends and neighbours NOT to fly BA and then have them grounded by a strike at VS

Was he really now? Funny how the story only broke on the 7th September (the day after the meeting) and not a dicky-bird about it beforehand. Why didn't he express silent support for the colleague that this chap actually assaulted? You'll note GBH is a criminal offence and would lead to the assailant losing his airside pass anyway. How about at the next meeting you all pitch up with a red armband, replete with swastika and 'BASSA' emblazoned across the middle to show support for the other participant in this unseemly affair?
