British Airways temp 6 month contract - LHR

hi all in the know.

just wondering about the 6month temp contract(LHR) at BA?

Unless you blow a slide or something, the chances of being kept on are good ????

many thanks

noone knows

well i am one of them as well who got a 6 month contract with ba...generally ba doesnt have a policy with temps but it happens when they need to fill their gaps and its cheaper and faster to train new crew instead of trasferring existing one from other bases....hopefully all we can do is hope and pray that we ll get kept on...if you dont upset anyone...your attendances are good then i dont see why they would want to get rid of you...well thats my opinion of course before everyone starts to jump on me....hahaha

There's already a thread on this forum about everything BA including this, think it's on the next page.

Have a read through, you should find all the answers there

Thumbs up

I got it! Good luck to all of you going for interviews. Nobody knows what will happen after the 6 months. You may find you can't wait to get out, there could be a downturn in the airline industry, a new airline could be born and a million other things could happen. Just enjoy your contract, life has no guarantees.

well i doubt that many will want to get out specially after all this effort and waiting to get in and hopefully none of those natural disasters will happen and all temps will stay in thje company as i believe everyone wishes us to

BA Cabin Crew Training Courses

Hi guys and gals.. First ever post so be gentle.

I’ve just had email from BA saying that I made it through the assessment day and I’ve been offered a job as cabin crew at LGW, Yey!

However, they can’t give me a starting date because they don’t have any training courses on at the moment apparently. Does any one have a rough idea of when I can expect to get a date considering my interview was just on Friday passed (17/03/06). Really desperate to start and would much appreciate any clues for you lovely people as to when that might be.

Thanks

Training is at full tilt at LGW from April at LGW.

You may get rang if a space appears in a course if someone cancels.

If that doesn't happen I would imagine it will be end of May or June.

Shouldn't be long before you do find out anyway.

Good luck and welcome aboard.

Sanity/Normality/Reality

CALY92

Your post put a big smile on my face. Your my kinda person.

Many forget the way it was to be an outsider looking in when they applied.

Crew who come from other carriers are always amazed at the culture within BA and how it compares to their old jobs.

Others who have worked in offices find it a whole new word and love the change.

Some like it, however the job isn't for them or isn't as much money as they were expecting.

Some (a minority) who start at BA as their first job however think the whole of the world has a better life, the grass is greener everywhere else.

Some join and complaining about everything, and looking at life as a "cup half empty" is a pass-time.

I choose to look at it as "If we were all the same, the world would be boring".
and embrace the opportunity to inform and enlighten the last two groups I mentioned. The others I take great pleasure in working with and look forward to flying with them as often as possible, and buying them a drink downroute.

Friends of mine who do other jobs are always amazed at how accomadating the company is, how many options and benefits we have, and the lifestyle we lead (YES even at EFLGW!, and I'm sure it will be even better from Oct).

It's by no-means perfect...but what company (or airline) is?

It's certainly better than all the other UK opperators.

So my advice is don't question your decision

Enjoy your success.

I look forward to flying with you, or maybe even training you!

hi there guys

been quiet for a while cause all the questions have been answered (more or less)

i can't wait to start, i hold my hand up and say i am gonna be really dissappointed if ba isn't what i expected but in all honesty, i just can't see it.

ba is a dream come true (god i sound like an air head) from the moment i stepped through the door i knew it was where i wanted to be, the uniform, the poise, the attitude, the charisma. the history, the elegance, the reputation, the protection. the name, the prestige, the organisation. the presentation, the knowledge and finally the people. ba has everything that so many lack: i really have done my research. the way people are promoted (not just time served and a course, but exams) the options available, the fact that in a work force of @16500 (cc) you are still valued, ba has soo much to offer in so many ways and i just can't wait, are you getting that!!! lol unless you start somewhere else (i don't think i'm far from the bottom) you can never really appreciate what it feels like to be at the top, ba isn't a job it's a career and if eflgw is the bottom of that career then at least it's the bottom of the top and rest assured you can only go up from there.

every step in excellence (i know that's cheesy) is a step in the right direction and even if eflgw is half as bad as anyone has said it's ten times better than any uk carrier.

no matter where people are there is always someway you think things could be better, it's human nature to always want more, ba is a business not a charity, give everything you can and they will give everything they can. i intend to!

When you get there you get to reception where you'll be asked to handover documentation, they'll go and ohotocopy it and bring it back. You take a seat and wait for people to arrive and it's obvious who is there for interviews, conversations start between candidates so it's really nice.

Next you'll get measured (shoes off) then you are asked to sit in a crew seat with the harness on and to brace. They just need to see that you fit the seat and that you can bring your arms up for the brace position.

You are then split into groups for your group assessment (4-5 peeps) where you will be asked to read some info then as a group discuss what you are going to do. What's important here is that you are listening to others using recaps and summaries eg "so what we're saying is", "do we agree that...."

Try and include the more shy members in your group, bring them into the discussion, eveyone has name badges on so it's easy to use their names.

There are recruiters on the corners of the room making notes as you progress through the activity, aparently the observer facing you is the one 'marking' you.

After the group stuff you wait in the reception area and some go off for a presentation about the company and others are called for the 2-1 interview. If you go for the interview first then you'll get the presentation after and vice versa.

The interview: takes about 40mins and they are really lovely. You'll be asked to use examples that are not already on your form. They will ask you why you want to work for BA and what you know about BA, nothing tricky at all. Just relax, don't rush in with a rambling answer.

Good luck
Have you heard if you got accepted yet? Good luck Had my interview on 17th March still waiting a reply has anyone else that attended on this day heard back yet?

If you want to work on £1000 then thats a good idea, I have only once taken that much home and that was when I had 2 weeks leave so usually its a few hundred higher, but as the pay varies its a good idea to leave yourself a bit of breathing room for those months when you just dont seem to fly!
