I have often wondered about the drag penalty of so called "tundra" tyres.

Asturias56 27th Jun 2019 12:37

I think there was an article in the US magazine "Flying" in the last 18 months where they took a Husky or similar into the Back Country - involved landing on stream beds etc etc - where they discussed this

yes there is a price to pay in speed, load etc etc but if you WANT to land on 1ft boulders....................................... of course you aren't travelling very fast when you intersect the terrain

Gentlemen,

We do not know why jensdad has not been able to check in.

At 0752 this morning Flap40 gave his suggested answer with an OH call if he was correct.

Does anyone feel that we can honour the OH call since jensdad has stated that I knew the answer.

Perhaps the thread would then move once again after almost nine hours.

Asturias56 27th Jun 2019 15:50

I get the impression he works so lets allow him up to 1900 UK time?

dook 27th Jun 2019 15:54

If you so wish, but I don't think we need to at all, and I know he would be happy for us to move.

1800 UTC is just an arbitrary time.

The answer to his challenge is indisputable.

dook 27th Jun 2019 16:21

It is simply an exchange of ideas, that's all.

If you gave up here then why have you posted the above ?

jensdad 27th Jun 2019 16:50

Good evening team,
Apologies for the late call (I would normally manage to check in during the day but but have been a bit busy) but Flap40 does indeed have it. I took the photo just before embarking on the world's shortest scheduled flight. I think we took about a minute and a half that day!
Flap40 has the baton.

dook 27th Jun 2019 16:53

Good evening jensdad.

Did you NB his OH call ?

jensdad 27th Jun 2019 17:07

And a good evening to you dook!
Ah yes, Open House it is. (I'm not quite on the ball today!)

dook 27th Jun 2019 17:10

Since I retired I am no longer able to stand on the ball either !!

JENKINS 27th Jun 2019 18:24

With OH, try this.

The smell is indescribable...once took out a vulture when landing there, wingspan big as a Herk blade...then there`s the `night-fighters` around the hotel to run the gauntlet....

JENKINS 27th Jun 2019 19:30

But the Corniche is pleasant. BN2T on my visit. Won't allow it to my old chum; I am sure someone will identify. Churchill failed there.

The Bengali famine could have been handled better by the greatest Briton.
But I cannot find a match on google earth....

JENKINS 27th Jun 2019 21:40

No, not Churchill in that episode. This debacle featured in an Evelyn Waugh novel. The aircraft on the ground are interesting. One may, if memory serves, be in the colours of the state carrier, but this location is not the home of that carrier. Neither of the two military types appear on the strength of the local Air Force.

JENKINS 27th Jun 2019 21:51

Bed time now, and probably there, nearly, as well.

Where Hookforce landed?

JENKINS 28th Jun 2019 07:48

Good morning, and yes, that is it. I will give in now, two lovely idents without a name to which one must give Dakar. This is the original airport, given name of a prominent leader, while the current long-named International airport is some distance out of town. My visit was 1993 from Banjul, Bathurst to those of a certain age. I imagine Sycamore was en-route to the home of the pretty red Islanders in the South Atlantic.

Two Ospreys? To you, India Four Two.

Asturias56 28th Jun 2019 12:39

I42 is based in Calgary I believe so he won't be on here for a while............

sycamore 28th Jun 2019 13:21

J, yes we landed at Yoff, les Gaullois were resident with Transall and Atlantique, but no Jaguars visible...It was always courtesy that the ALM rounded up all the unused coffee, tea, milk, sugar, and gave the Customs man a bag full,,one to the agent, and one to the refueller...All the other unused meals(not scraps) were likewise bagged, and placed under the tail.Figures would appear from the ground behind the aircraft,,and the bags would disappear.....Protocol,and wearing many stripes and a big hat would see one on ones way easily.....A few dollars or coffee in flt.ops also had a beneficial effect...
I did find a yu-tube video of the new Air-Senegal A330 First flight to Paris, but couldn`t equate it with the old airport until your quote and further search on GE...
Think the little Reds are still going...you`d be in your element down there Jenks.....
