Spot on Airclues. Open House it is then.

Here is the next mystery aerodrome:

I'd be tempted to say those were PBY's with a sluice ramp at the left of the photo.
Canada? |
Sorry, not Canada.
|
Flew nearby in 1984, I think it's Eagle Mountain Lake in Texas?
|
Yes, aviate1138 is correct.:ok: A former USN and USMC base deep in the heart of Texas. Your turn.
|
evansb - thanks :)
Shouldn't be too hard. The guy is pointing at a three ton truck falling out of the sky..... http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...18at094105.jpg |
Massive explosion at an ammo dump 'somewhere in England'. After the Battle have covered it using this picture but I can't remember where , somewhere like Wratting Common?
|
Metfield Airfield bomb dump explosion.
|
sabre dog you are the Main Man. A pal of mine lived at Metfield Hall during the war. He grew up with P-47s, P51s and B-24s just outside his bedroom window! Lucky sod.
You have control. |
|
This challenge has been idle for more than two days. Perhaps a hint is in order.
|
How 'bout I start the ball rolling with Worthy Down?
(I was tempted to say Lympne but the reservoir and dwellings are wrong) (Definitely not Rearsby) |
Not in the UK? Somewhere in Germany?
|
Apologies for not providing some hints/clues earlier than this.
The airfield is no longer extant, but was well known in the 1930s. It is now part of a housing estate and Country Park ,and still retains a link to it's aviation past. Not Lympne, Rearsby or Worthy Down,Chevvron. U.K. is correct,Simon. |
Could it be Woodley by any slim chance?
|
It is indeed the old Woodley Airfield, Aviate1138.
YHC |
thanks sabredog
Don't hurry over this one......... http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...22at173703.jpg |
Rush Green?
|
Tempsford! Spot on!
You have control. |
Sorry folks, just returned, open house at this time!
|
Since no-one else has stepped in, I offer you:
|
Witney Aerodrome (Universal Aircraft Serrvices).
Open House if correct. TCF |
Correct! It is indeed the old Witney aerodrome, now an industrial estate.
An easy one: |
Used to take my kids to Pollensa as the beach was so shallow and ideal for tots.
Pollensa Mallorca? |
Si, seņor, it is indeed the old flying boat base at Puerto Pollensa, Mallorca:
I can recall staying at the nearby Hotel Illa D'Or and watching those Do24s chugging about in the late 1960s. If the water was calm, they used to have to charge around the bay to stir it up a little before taking off. A champagne cocktail in 'Bar Katy' cost 1/- back then! Sadly Katy herself passed away about 40 years later. You have control.... |
Thank you Sir,
Open House PS Do24 and turbine variants look 'right' don't they? |
Yes, the Do24 is very elegant!
My last Open House, then it'll be someone else's turn: |
THAT, is so obvious that I shan't reply!!
|
If it's THAT obvious... I won't bother guessing! WTF?
|
Somewhere in Texas...?
|
Phoenix AZ I think - Hassayampa Field looking a little worse for wear these days or did around 1996 even
|
Not Hassayampa Field......
|
Luke Field Auxiliary Airfield,Arizona,U.S.A.
|
Of which there were many, including Hassayampa Field.....:hmm:
|
No 6 Goodyear Field is the most likely.
|
It is indeed Luke Aux AF No.6 (Goodyear Field). As, presumably, jindabyne knew...?
An overhead from 2011, showing the ever-encroaching residential areas... YHC, aviate1138. But you are expected to contribute a challenge of your own this time. |
Of course dear chap!
|
Jindabyne's prize. However if BEagle says I HC then so be it.....

It looks like one of a dozen boreal forest airstrips in Canada's north. Anything significant about the location?
