frontlefthamster 11th Sep 2012 10:15

While someone comes up with a proper challenge, can I invite the cognsocenti to try to identify the aerodrome (and perhaps the specific aircraft) which appears a few times, most notably starting at 4:00 minutes, in this rather lovely music video..?

Sorry for the video's double appearance - nothing I can do to get rid of it, it seems...

merlinxx 11th Sep 2012 13:10

LTN with Britannia Brit:confused:

Duckbutt 11th Sep 2012 13:30

I would concur that it's a Britannia aircraft but know no more. Here's another airfield:

With regard to my query above, I'm thinking it might be Newcastle (EGNT)... However, the large mound or building in the distance is confusing...

Anyone else able to pitch in to help?

Cows getting bigger 12th Sep 2012 05:35

Most definitely Newcastle, looking East from the terminal.

Duckbutt 12th Sep 2012 14:27

If it helps I can confirm that the location of my challenge is some distance away from Newcastle!

Gulfstreamaviator 12th Sep 2012 14:56

confused by the long straight canal so close to the airport

I am so stupid......too much funny water....glf

sabredog 12th Sep 2012 16:50

John Deere Dubuque Works Airport ,Iowa. U.S.A.

Duckbutt 12th Sep 2012 17:03

That took you much longer than usual SD!

sabredog 12th Sep 2012 18:11

Thank you,Duckbutt. It was but a mere courtesy.

Greenland perhaps? Kangerlussuaq.

Noyade 12th Sep 2012 21:44

Kangerlussuaq.
I believe that's the place mate. I have it as Sondrestrom Air Base and couldn't see it on Mel's list, but a little googling says they're the same place?

Your control aerobelly. :ok:

aerobelly 12th Sep 2012 22:22

Oh rats!

Oops, sorry. Thank you Noyade.

That was a complete guess based on how long I thought the North Pole routes would take.

This is an airfield that is still live, but the clues are not aircraft:

Sorry about the page furniture again.

Hethel, Norfolk. Home of Lotus. I think?

aerobelly 12th Sep 2012 23:05

Hethel, quite correct. Home of Lotus since 1966. Although the identifiable car body was made by Bristol (at Filton?).

Whooo that didn't last long! jindabyne has control

Thanks aero - the car gave it away.

Open House.

Not in America, Australia or Xkxkzstan:

Whispering Giant 13th Sep 2012 10:19

Looks a bit like a early image of Oxford - Kidlington

brgds

W.G

BEagle 13th Sep 2012 10:43

Not Oxford (nowhere near London) Kidlington, I'm afraid.

Correct country though.

chevvron 13th Sep 2012 11:06

Newton or Kirton - in - Lindsey?
Edit delete Newton add Middle Wallop.

sycamore 13th Sep 2012 13:17

Leeming...?

G-ARZG 13th Sep 2012 17:44

Swanton Morley ?

BEagle 13th Sep 2012 18:54

Neither Kirton Lindsey-in-Lindsey, Leeming, Middle Wallop, Newton, Spitalgate nor Swanton Morley.....:hmm:

sycamore 13th Sep 2012 21:02

Pershore..?

BEagle 13th Sep 2012 21:56

Neither is it P'shaw........

Airclues 13th Sep 2012 22:21

OK sabredog.....time to tell us where it is.

chevvron 14th Sep 2012 08:50

Is it now an Army barracks? (Bramcote)

BEagle 14th Sep 2012 11:22

Not RAF Bramcote - or whatever the Pongos call it.

chevvron 14th Sep 2012 12:51

Yes why DO the pongos HAVE to ruin airfields when they take them over? Look at Catterick; houses almost on the edge of the runway; Abingdon; a tall fence on the inside edge of the peri track.
But that's not important right now so how about Chipping Warden?

BEagle 14th Sep 2012 13:51

Neither RAF Chipping Warden, RAF Chipping Norton nor RAF Chipping Ongar!

jindabyne 14th Sep 2012 18:46

Good grief, it's obvious. Come on chaps!

BEagle 14th Sep 2012 19:21

Neither is it RAF Obvious................;)

chevvron 14th Sep 2012 22:14

So you're saying it's an RNAS?

chevvron 15th Sep 2012 00:39

Having said the above, I found Lichfield has the correct layout of hangars but the internal roads are different; this could be post war 'mods' however.

BEagle 15th Sep 2012 07:16

Nope, jinda' claimed it was 'obvious' and simply said that there was no station by that name! Whether RAF or FAA....

Neither is it RAF Lichfield.

I'll post another photo when Photobucket has been fixed - it's failing to upload yet again (as reported by others too...)....

chevvron 15th Sep 2012 13:13

Come on then jindabyne, put us out of our misery!

jindabyne 15th Sep 2012 14:39

As BEags said, I was wrong!

BEagle 15th Sep 2012 15:38

Here's part of the site in more recent times:

The depot buildings date from the Secind World War and can be seen from the road built in later days:

And don't bother trying to zoom in on the signposts as I've smudged them....;)

Tempsford 15th Sep 2012 16:59

RAF Yatesbury?
