An easy challenge
Unlikely. :)
I was thinking in the USA, but are these US Serviceman returning to the USA?
From Europe?

seacue 16th Jul 2012 00:32

There is a little house on stilts for weather instruments in a left foreground. Is this international or strictly a USA design?

The building doesn't look to me like it's in the USA. Is it a US base in Europe?

India Four Two 16th Jul 2012 05:25

a little house on stilts
That's a Stevenson Screen - a standard international design and according to the specs that I have just read, it is too close to the terminal building.:=
Stevenson screen - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I just learned something new while looking this up. The designer, Thomas Stevenson was the father of Robert Louis Stevenson, the author.

MATS stairs in the background. I agree with Noyade and seacue - Europe in the 1950s.

sabredog 16th Jul 2012 06:45

An excellent analysis of the photograph,Gentlemen, but not in the U.S.A. or Europe.

Duckbutt 16th Jul 2012 08:35

Sailors in white, not a jacket in sight so somewhere warm. Pacific US base? Maybe Clark or Guam, somewhere like that?

descol 16th Jul 2012 08:56

I agree with Duckbut about the sailors - more like the Pacific - but the building is not likely to be Guam or small Islands - must be mainland ?

chevvron 16th Jul 2012 10:27

Phew I thought Farnborough was the only airport with massively displaced thresholds at both ends, but looking at Mumbai/Juhu I see I was wrong! The thresholds are even closer together than Farnborough.

descol 16th Jul 2012 11:15

Is it Haneda 1952 ?

http://i665.photobucket.com/albums/v...rt_in_1952.jpg

sabredog 16th Jul 2012 11:50

It is indeed Haneda Airport,Japan,1950s.
Well done,descol.

Sign ! The pun is deliberate.
Sion.

Your control KK.

seacue 21st Jul 2012 15:34

Nearly two days have elapsed since there was any activity in this thread. Lacking any response from KK, let me propose this mystery airport terminal.

http://members.toast.net/rcarpen/whichapt1207.jpg

It was taken as the sun was setting beyond the terminal.

seacue 21st Jul 2012 23:56

I figured that sabredog would have identified this image by now ... but he seems to be on holiday this weekend.

First clue: This photograph was taken in 1970.

India Four Two 22nd Jul 2012 06:52

seacue,

Based on the seats in the terminal, I'm guessing somewhere in the US.
