sabredog 25th Aug 2012 21:57

Eightmile Lake "airfield", Alaska.

aviate1138 26th Aug 2012 05:40

sabredog is correct. You have Control.

I would have added an early clue but was poisoned by a nasty bug in a mussel.

sabredog 26th Aug 2012 09:32

Thank you.

Is it Hatfield?

sabredog 28th Aug 2012 08:27

Indeed it is,Simon.

I found a postwar photo with the new runway and taxiways, taken from roughly the same angle. The distinctive wood beyond the airfield and field boundaries near the wood were the clincher.

Standby while I wrestle with Photobucket.

India Four Two 28th Aug 2012 11:43

We've had an aerial view of this aerodrome before. Here's a view of the distinctive terminal:

aviate1138 28th Aug 2012 11:54

Kallang Singapore? - nice shot

Judging by the grins they are on their way home?

India Four Two 28th Aug 2012 12:20

Yes, Kallang.

More than just on their way home - ex-POWs.

You have control.

Edited to add a link to the previous Kallang picture:

Russell Gulch 28th Aug 2012 18:36

Braunstone.

sabredog 28th Aug 2012 19:44

Macmerry Airfield, Eastlothian, Scotland.

BEagle 28th Aug 2012 19:57

Indeed - I guess the 'nacht Tranent 3km Luftlink' was a bit of a giveaway clue though!

That 614 Sqn Blenheim looks rather sad....:uhoh:

chevvron 28th Aug 2012 21:32

Shirley it's Manston (before the emergency runway was built of course!).

aviate1138 28th Aug 2012 21:39

sabredog has Control.

sabredog 28th Aug 2012 21:50

Thank you, aviate1138.

evansb 29th Aug 2012 15:53

Are those hills the Ozarks, Alleghennys, or Appalachians ?

sabredog 29th Aug 2012 16:23

Sorry,Brian. None of the above mentioned ranges.

aviate1138 29th Aug 2012 16:28

How about the area near the Snake River Ohio?

sabredog 29th Aug 2012 18:14

Not Ohio,aviate1138. This airfield is not in the U.S.A.

chevvron 30th Aug 2012 11:14

You carefully say 'not in the USA' does that mean Canada?

sabredog 30th Aug 2012 13:59

It is indeed a Canadian airfield,Chevvron.

chevvron 30th Aug 2012 16:32

Well as a I know nothing about Canadian airfields, someone else will have to have a go! It does have a distinctly Canadian look about the terrain though.

evansb 30th Aug 2012 16:45

The airfield appears to be configured for spruce budworm spraying. I'll guess it is in New Brunswick, perhaps Dunphy Airstrip ?

On second guess, I think it may be Nictau Aristrip, New Brunswick, Canada.

sabredog 30th Aug 2012 16:54

Very warm,Brian,but not Dunphy.

evansb 30th Aug 2012 16:57

Nictau Airstrip, New Brunswick, Canada.

sabredog 30th Aug 2012 17:06

That is correct,Brian.

evansb 30th Aug 2012 18:19

Thank you Terrence. An excellent challenge. Located by the Tobique River, (pronounced Toe-Bick), Nictau Airstrip is no longer active.

Here is the next mystery aerodrome:

jindabyne 30th Aug 2012 19:09

I know exactly where it is, but I can't spell it ----

sabredog 30th Aug 2012 19:15

That is a great pity,Jindabyne

jindabyne 30th Aug 2012 21:33

Canada Sd?

sabredog 30th Aug 2012 21:46

Piteå airfield,Sweden.

evansb 31st Aug 2012 04:43
