Now we are getting close.
In Bandung they drive on the leftside of the road.
(when they adhere to any traffic rules!)

Are we in Ceylon?

Self loading bear 3rd Feb 2019 18:05

I am not aware that the Dutch had any influence in Ceylon?

correction
VOC property, sold in 1776 to the Brits.
I believe however that relationship with Sri Lanka is quite warm.
Probably because Great Britannia handled the independancy?

dook 3rd Feb 2019 18:10

Or Indonesia maybe Java ?

Finally,
if Bandung is close then Java is logical.

The airport is in the lower right corner

That matches a GE view of Jakarta.

Dook,
Don’t let anyone steal the goal from you!
You forgot airport name again.
Several can be correct.

dook 3rd Feb 2019 19:06

All I can find at the moment is Kemayoran Airport and the available photos don't match.

JENKINS 3rd Feb 2019 19:18

Perhaps Tjililitan as was?

Cows getting bigger 3rd Feb 2019 19:25

How about Bekasi?

Self loading bear 3rd Feb 2019 19:26

Sorry Dook,
Jenkins scores again!
Tjililitan in the Meester Cornelis area of Batavia as the Dutch called Jakarta.
Nowadays Halim Perdusana Kamusa in Jakarta.
Endpoint of the KLM Amsterdam-Batavia route.

I think the Dutch could have handled the Indonesian independence better.
20/20 Hindsight.....

Good time to leave. Good night.

The immediate months post WW2 seem to have been difficult. With regard to the original photograph, I found several hangars with similar appearance to the specimen. The era of the people appeared to match the dates of the answer.

So, thanks, one now for the evening and night. Let's start with the fact of its naming after a prominent sportsman.

Self loading bear 3rd Feb 2019 22:34

I don’t think that it is listed on this website:?
Airports named after people

Self loading bear 4th Feb 2019 04:57

Neither you are refering to the disabled toilet of Christchurch international nor the tax free area of Belfast city Airport?

JENKINS 4th Feb 2019 09:02

Not on the eponym list, and no relevance to your other sporting examples. This sportsman, dead when field opened, was further renowned far from his homeland for his WW2 activities. One of his contemporaries, to whom he was a sporting mentor, found much greater sporting fame but less in his military role. That said, the contemporary knew a bit about 'stress.'
