So we are looking for an airport with a large apron, blue skies and a low fence.
perhaps with one plane spotter visible from Google earth?

That’s easy!

Asturias56 10th Feb 2019 14:11

It was a war time (WW2) airfield that became a scheduled international airfield after WW2. The first airline flights operated both German & US aircraft run by the same, foreign, airline

Oshkosh Winconsin?

Asturias56 10th Feb 2019 14:16

I don't think many German passenger aircraft were operating in the US after WW2 or that foreign airlines have ever operated to Oshkosh..........

Clearly crossed posts
German built aircraft just after WW2 can only be JU-52?

Germany ?....

Asturias56 10th Feb 2019 15:21

"German built aircraft just after WW2 can only be JU-52?"

They built other aeroplanes that could carry passengers.................... but it was s surprise to me when I found out about it...............

Asturias56 10th Feb 2019 15:22

Not Germany - this place still operates but it was closed to airline traffic when another, newer airport opened

How about Finland.

Asturias56 10th Feb 2019 15:41

Asturias56 10th Feb 2019 15:42

No, not Finland - it also changed its name while still a military airfield -

this challenge is fun................... I'm off out for an hour or so guys

kaikohe76 10th Feb 2019 17:31

If I had not seen the crossed runways in the photo Asturias posted, I might have suggested the former Munich airfield.

Asturias56 10th Feb 2019 17:34

As stated above not Germany - the US Navy once had a small presence here for a while.................. this place has had a far more interesting history than I ever thought TBH

It has also been associated with other modes of transport -

I think I've beaten my previous record!!
