Well tell us which airfield it is then :)

Asturias56 2nd Feb 2019 08:43

n no no the game is you guess (ar do your in depth research) and I tell you if you are right or wrong - saying Brooklyn is a bit like saying "North Paris" -true but not accurate................

Besides I like to be able to reach 24 hours on my challenge life... ;)

Sorry, misunderstood you, thought you had said that dook was correct.
How about Floyd Bennett

Asturias56 2nd Feb 2019 09:33

he was correct in that he found Brooklyn but he didn't name the airport... which you have done - I reckon its NVUBU but if you want to give it to DOOK that OK by me

rather spooky place - even tho a lot of it is a park these days

When dook named Brooklyn I assumed that it could only be Floyd Bennet - however you are in control and set the rules, so I'll take it :)

Where might these men be performing

99th Fighter Squadron, now where were they posted?

broadreach 2nd Feb 2019 11:27

There is what looks like a stage behind the group, something they'd be unlikely to find during their postings in North Africa or anywhere else. So the photo might have been taken at Sharpe Field, Tuskegee, Alabama, where they trained. OH if correct.

nvubu 2nd Feb 2019 11:42

Not Tuskegee. You are on the wrong track with the 99th.

Eye Eye skipper.

923rd Engineer Aviation Regiment.

nvubu 2nd Feb 2019 12:22

Who's been using Google Image Search then :oh:

These men are NOT part of 923rd Engineer Aviation Regiment

They are from the 827Th, 829Th, 847Th Aviation Engineer Battalions, and they are at Eye :ok:

Over to you.

Building the airfield:

broadreach 2nd Feb 2019 12:29

Guess I went for the easiest target! Just in case, I do NOT use Google Image Search  How about a picture of some of them on an aeroplane?

nvubu 2nd Feb 2019 12:33

broadreach - I know you didn't. I did think about letting you carry on down the 99th route, but thought I wouldn't :)

I always check to see if my images exist on GI - these did, but are identified as in the 923rd - whereas my original docs have them to be in the 827Th, 829Th, 847Th. I did miss the Dereham times stating that the first one was a Eye though :(

This is the closest I can get them to an aircraft.

It wasn't Image Search.

I found this image:

This one should be quite easy:

Asturias,

I note your ;) icon.

Do you know something we should know?

Germany it is.

kaikohe76 2nd Feb 2019 17:58

Lubec possibly?

chevvron 2nd Feb 2019 18:23

I would have guessed Rechlin, but that would be too obvious.

dook 2nd Feb 2019 18:46

If you had gone for Rechlin you would have been correct. :)
