Getting much closer - go further north.

Except for Kumzar, where there hasn't been an airfield, going further north gets into Iranian territory and islands.

WIDN62 28th Oct 2018 11:49

Closer, but not far enough north.

dook 28th Oct 2018 11:52

I disregarded that because it's only accessible by boat.

NW of Kumzar
it bears no name on my Google

Surely we can't have somewhere with no name on the thread !

WIDN62 28th Oct 2018 12:08

SLB has it. Jazirat Umm al Ghanam. English name Goat Island.
My photo was taken in the 1990s and I am not sure what is left there now. It was about 40 deg C at the time. The firemen kitted up fully for the Skyvan movements and saluted as they taxied past. I presume that when the RAF helped set up SOAF they gave them all the standard kit that was around at the time.
Can I get back to my decorating now??

Nailed within a quarter of an hour!

Rotterdam Katshoek/Hofdijk
Then still plenty of space in the war bombed inner city.
Before Rotterdam Airport was opened.

Sometimes it doesn't take much research and a bit of luck.

You had fun with my last Lightning picture so here's another.

Laarbruch.... I recognise that tree on the left! 😉

dook 28th Oct 2018 14:39

Nice trees but not Laarbruch.

Geilenkirchen
Hard spots and taxiways between the trees

Not Geilenkirchen either.

Not so much RAF bases left in Germany (if it is Germany)
Bruggen has only a few places with trees both sides.

Those chaps of 11th Squadron did not fly in Singapore. (Plenty of trees on Tengah) So that leaves some bases in the UK?
Bruntingthorpe could fit the bill.
