Could be, but it's not Europe.

I demand a recount!:*

:) I actually typed the word 'patois' but I thought the French sound of that word would maybe give it away! I've been to Guernsey a few times (beautiful place, you're a lucky person kcockayne) and I have heard it said that the decline in Guernesiaise really intensified when a large number of young islanders were evacuated to the UK during WWII, and then came back speaking English as their first language. Here's another photo from Forest parish churchyard - within earshot of the airport - that you may find interesting. The deaths on the family headstone are marked in French until some point between 1917 and 1945, when English is used. I love this kind of stuff. Photo used with respect to the people whose names are carved there. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.gmf...4139e748e0.jpg
Sorry for massive thread drift :)

Heathrow Harry 12th Jul 2018 06:48

Could be Appalachia or the Ozarks or the Rockies... but it looks pretty dry so I'll go for California........

Quite big mountains inteh distance - Sierra Nevada or the Klamaths?

ea200 12th Jul 2018 14:10

Neither of those HH. The Klamaths are closer.

WIDN62 12th Jul 2018 21:49

Dunsmuir, Northern California?

ea200 12th Jul 2018 22:03

Not Dunsmuir. There is a clue in the picture which would discount that.

ea200 12th Jul 2018 22:32

I have to correct my earlier reply to HH. Although not known as such locally, this area is technically in the Klamaths. Sorry HH.

Sycamore has it and declared OH. One way in and one way out due terrain. Someone tried taking off the other way ages ago, with predictable results. They were going to build a new one but never did. I suspect funds were not forthcoming. Lovely area though if you like forests and lakes.

Heathrow Harry 14th Jul 2018 09:02

I don't think so............... a long way away from Manston - opened in the mid-50's I believe and very much changed

That looks like a DC8 outside one of the old "Shack" Hangars in Capetown
