The lack of buildings indicates it is possibly not a commercial airport.

But big enough or enough money around to build a parallel taxiway....... I'd expect more buildings/signs etc around either a full-on military strip or one used by main line airlines.................

Well done, evansb. UB it is. Plenty of infrastructure as it was helped in development by the early ETOPS needs. The ATC center had ADS/c and CPDLC capability not too long after the South Pacific leaders. I was going to post the following graphics , which, on reflection, may have added confusion.

Spent a week there doing site surveys for a proposed WAM install - -24 was a warm day!!!

Is it the old WW II airfield at Sheik Othman (about 4 nms north west of Khormaksar) near Aden, Yemen?

dook 20th Aug 2018 16:40

Wrong country but close.

dook 20th Aug 2018 19:21

Sorry - I wish I knew.

However, I suspect it was an RAF aircraft judging from the origin of the photograph.

Think it may be from a Piston Provost T52,with the dust cover on the 7.62mg..

dook 20th Aug 2018 19:52

From the date of the photograph you may well be correct.

Bill Macgillivray 20th Aug 2018 20:09
