Since I don't know what that means I cannot answer.

But if you mean prison I don't think so.

kenparry 9th Dec 2018 16:03

East or West of the old Iron Curtain?

dook 9th Dec 2018 16:09

Neither - south of it.

JENKINS 9th Dec 2018 17:01

Qrendi perhaps? Father of back seat chum flew Faith, Hope, and Charity.

dook 9th Dec 2018 17:14

Not perhaps at all.

Back to you.

JENKINS 9th Dec 2018 17:29

Thanks. 'South' was the clue.

Now this. Famous names of 65 years ago made me aware, and I was very young then.https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....1296d5c3fb.jpg

I have never seen black dots on a runway. The runway is "1" which is typically (and incorrectly) American.

No longer in use or newly constructed ?

nvubu 9th Dec 2018 19:38

Sebring - it's a motor racing circuit on the left hand side of the image

JENKINS 9th Dec 2018 20:20

Yes to Sebring, wonderful list of 12 hour winners. Apparently field still in use.

Chequered Flag to nvubu.

nvubu 9th Dec 2018 20:27

I knew immediately I saw it that it was race circuit. Just couldn't remember the name off the top of my head.

Now we are going way back in time for the next challenge

I do have more recent photos if this stumps you:ok:

How is "Runway 1 typically (and incorrectly) American" incorrect? It is the American way. Accept it. It is NOT incorrect. As per another example, most of the world drives on the right-hand side of the road. It is NOT incorrect.

jensdad 9th Dec 2018 20:40

One has to be quick on this thread these days. Having said that I would still have been wrong on Qrendi as I was thinking Hal Far :)

In the same way, I like English motorbikes but the steer is on the wrong side!

Try four little letters - ICAO.

And I am not a snob, despite your edit.

If you wish to be rude, I'll leave the thread.

evansb 9th Dec 2018 21:08

America doesn't abide by the ICAO aircraft registration protocol either. So what? The opposite end of Runway 1 is probably Runway 19. I am not American. America can do what ever it wants. I like America. I fly in my private aircraft to America every two years. It is a pleasure.

The mystery aerodrome? A 1908 demonstration tour? Looking at the style of hats and caps, I am thinking America.

JENKINS 9th Dec 2018 21:10

Not sure about the crowd line. This aircraft does not appear to be the sole focus of attention, so perhaps an Air Meeting like Rheims?

nvubu 9th Dec 2018 21:22

Glad we are back to the subject. :)
It was an event held in conjunction with an automobile show, and was the 2nd year of the event (which was held in a different city the previous year). .
Not 100% sure if it took place at the airfield in question. but the airfield was constructed in this year and was the first airfield in this city. This image is from the following year - I did say I had some later images :)

evansb 9th Dec 2018 21:37

Cicero Flying Field, Chicago ?

nvubu 9th Dec 2018 21:40

This field isn't in the USA
