Cbg,

Thanks. I got lucky there. It was obviously reclaimed land and after I had exhausted the ones I knew, I did a search and Doha was the first on the list!

What caused the very poor vis?

I can’t access my photos at the moment, so Open House.

Bah! I was going to say Venice Marco Polo. A really atmospheric shot of DOH there.
I have to say, some of the pics on this thread are fantastic, both from an historical point of view and an artistic one.

One in colour from me for once:

I would have suggested Rio/Santos Dumont.

Are we in the USA now?
We had buildings with pimples on the roof when we were looking at the early days of ballooning

nvubu 10th May 2018 06:42

We are not in the USA.

chevvron 10th May 2018 12:38

I would guess moreCaribbean.

nvubu 10th May 2018 12:39

Wrong side of the atlantic.

jensdad 10th May 2018 12:56

The landscape looks vaguely Swiss? I'm darned if I know remotely which airfield it is though.

nvubu 10th May 2018 12:59

Not in Europe either.

nvubu 10th May 2018 15:41

Never had any scheduled services, last fixed wing flight was in the mid 1970s, still used for the occasional helicopter.

Cows getting bigger 10th May 2018 15:56

Reminds me of the Azores.

nvubu 10th May 2018 16:06

Not on an island, but you are now closer than the Caribbean :ok:

golfbananajam 10th May 2018 16:19

These are screen captures from a video, here's one from a couple of seconds before.

The house still exists - although with a bit more security

The field is in the capital city - and when I say in, it is less than a mile and a half from the centre of the city.

sycamore 10th May 2018 21:47

Are we in a Far Eastern country. like Malaysia..?

nvubu 10th May 2018 21:51

Now you have gone too far around the world. We aren't in Asia.

Mark 1 10th May 2018 23:19

A bit of a wild guess: Is it the old Buena Vista airport on La Palma in the Canaries?

nvubu 11th May 2018 06:25

Not on an island.
The city might be the capital of he country now, but wasn't when the film was shot.
This is the control building.

I hadn't realized so many countries had moved their capitals. The only airport that seems to fit your clues is in 'hippo country' - Dodomo, Tanzania.

OH if correct.
