Sorry - first time with prune albums - any better?

jensdad 2nd Feb 2017 00:06

Hmmm , based on a photo I took of the place from a Loganair Saab340, best guess I can come up with is Kinloss. Not confident, though.

Background Noise 2nd Feb 2017 07:30

Sorry, not UK.

nvubu 2nd Feb 2017 12:33

How about Büchel?

Background Noise 2nd Feb 2017 14:28

Not Germany, but almost due south of Büchel. We must be looking 060° ish.

G-ARZG 2nd Feb 2017 17:50

Background Noise 2nd Feb 2017 18:26

Yes, Colmar it is. Now closed and handed over to the army - sound familiar?

Over to Zulu Golf.

Here's one I've flown to. It looks a bit different now. The water tower and most of the huts are gone, but the hangar is still there.

I'll kick things off with a random punt at Regina, Saskatchewan. For no other reason than it looks very flat! And the fact that I42 is in Canada.

India Four Two 4th Feb 2017 00:09

Good observation, jensdad.

Not Regina, but there's a lot of flat ground around here, although there are some incised valleys nearby.

My location is a herring that's slightly reddish.;)

Kewbick 4th Feb 2017 04:59

Cutbank, Montana (KCTB) ?

India Four Two 4th Feb 2017 07:22

Kewbick,

Welcome to PPRuNe and congratulations. It's Cut Bank Municipal Airport (KCTB), near the eponymous incised creek (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cut_Bank,_Montana).

The picture is from when it was being built as a B-17 training base during WWII.

Here's the airside view of the hangar, framing the lovely Stinson 108 that I went to Oshkosh in. We cleared customs here:

do you have the full document from the AEF? [I'm doing some research on Tangmere Airfield in WW1]
any other information out there regarding Tangmere?

Kewbick 4th Feb 2017 16:13

Thank you.
Name the airfield:
