Have you lot ever tried the, equivalent of, old Tom O'Connor game show "Name That Tune" ... i.e. "Name That Aerodrome"?

"I'll name that aerodrome in 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1" :)

descol 5th Dec 2011 11:00

Is this in Poland ?

wet wet wet 6th Dec 2011 20:21

Close, but not quite Poland. But part of the former USSR.

SeenTheLight 7th Dec 2011 06:20

Ventspils, Latvia?

OH if correct.

wet wet wet 7th Dec 2011 08:06

Spot on! Ventspils it is. A very welcoming GA field nowadays.

Duckbutt 8th Dec 2011 09:26

Gowen Field Air National Guard Base, Boise Airport, Idaho. U.S.A.

Duckbutt 8th Dec 2011 09:36

Glad I stumped you for so long Sabredog! With you.

sabredog 8th Dec 2011 11:48

Thank you,Duckbutt. Yes,very slow off the mark with your challenge.
Cannot see this airfield on Mel's list. Should not last very long!

kenparry 10th Dec 2011 14:12

Tympaki, or Tymbakion, Crete. There are several different spellings, only one lat/long, 35.04N, 25.46E

Open house if correct.

sabredog 10th Dec 2011 14:26

Well done,Kenparry. You are correct ,and there is even a third way of spelling the name of the airfield;Timbaki!!
Kenparry has declared ;
Open House

LFT 10th Dec 2011 18:16

LFT 11th Dec 2011 08:54

TheChitterneFlyer 11th Dec 2011 20:22

Sorry for my late reply. Open house.

norwich 11th Dec 2011 20:54

As CF declared open house ! I cannot believe this one is not in Mel's listing ??

Keith.

frontlefthamster 11th Dec 2011 21:27

Oh dear! I know that one so well, I think... Not far from you? Chicken sheds? Maybe a navaid out of shot? Curse the effects of the wine and the time away from home!

norwich 11th Dec 2011 21:47

frontlefthamster. There is something in shot that should narrow it down ?

Keith.

chevvron 12th Dec 2011 00:57

A 'Bernard (bootiful) Maffews' resort perhaps? ie turkey rather than chicken, but then it could be Wing.

frontlefthamster 12th Dec 2011 01:54

Thank you Keith!

That would be the fascinating dome at Langham, recently used for an interesting sound installation by Nick Franglen...

Friends of Langham Dome

franglen.net - franglen.net

Open house if I'm right please!

norwich 12th Dec 2011 06:31

frontlefthamster has it ! yes it is Langham with the dome trainer, yes it is Bernard Matthews and yes they are turkey sheds !

So back to open house !!!

Duckbutt 13th Dec 2011 08:41

I do hope that interest in this thread is not waning. Wonder if THIS one will last longer than five minutes!

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...ler/Puzz59.jpg

xtypeman 13th Dec 2011 09:15

Has it been used in an advert recently....

Duckbutt 13th Dec 2011 09:49

Sorry, I've no idea. I would say that the general locality is photogenic though.

xtypeman 13th Dec 2011 09:52

I was thinking of the Avios advert. Don't know where it is and wont Google as I believe that is not in the spirit of this thread.

Xtype

Duckbutt 13th Dec 2011 10:44

I HAVE googled the advert and with the proviso that if I understand it correctly, the filming was done in a different country.

Duckbutt 14th Dec 2011 08:42

Another view in the opposite direction:

SilentHandover 14th Dec 2011 13:18

Is this in New Zealand?

Duckbutt 14th Dec 2011 13:32

No, Northern Hemisphere.

If I had been here in 1976 or 1998 my knees would have been knocking both figuratively and literally. Probably also between 1915 and 1917 but not for quite the same reasons. Still very uncomfortable though!

MReyn24050 14th Dec 2011 14:19

Bovec, Slovenia perhaps?

Duckbutt 14th Dec 2011 14:52

Bovec Slovenia it is. Extensive fighting in the area between Italians and Austrian forces in 1915 to 1917, earthquakes in 1976 and 1998.

MReyn has control.

MReyn24050 14th Dec 2011 17:30

Thanks Duckbutt. It will have to be Open House I am afraid.

seacue 15th Dec 2011 09:54

I should like to submit this airport as a challenge.

Airport name and city?

For extra credit, which major TV personality flew out of this airport early in his career?

http://members.toast.net/rcarpen/aptwhere.jpg

MReyn24050 15th Dec 2011 14:00

Name of the airport is Congressional Airport, Rockville, MD near Washington DC. The TV personality was Arthur Godfrey
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c6...ur_Godfrey.jpg

seacue 15th Dec 2011 14:07

Very good MReyn.

The airport is now the Congressional Plaza shopping area ... at least the name lives on.

Arthur Godfrey was a longtime radio personality in the Washington, DC, area (starting around 1930).

MReyn has control again.

MReyn24050 15th Dec 2011 14:14

Thanks, seacue. It is over 4 years since you started this thread and it is still as popular as ever.
Here is the next:-

seacue 15th Dec 2011 18:02

I try, but I'm very poor at recognizing the fields .. and when I do, someone beats me to it.
