Sutherlin Airport Oregon? OH if correct.

SilentHandover 23rd Dec 2011 14:51

Well that did not last long. Well done Olympus, Sutherlin it is.

It's OH.

asw28-866 23rd Dec 2011 21:47

As it's OH, try this one...

JSCL 23rd Dec 2011 22:01

NALF Ford Island?

asw28-866 23rd Dec 2011 23:57

Not Ford Island JSCL, much further south.

Dora-9 24th Dec 2011 04:49

Cockatoo Island, Western Australia?

emeritus 24th Dec 2011 06:02

Yup. Cockatoo Island in Yampi Sound. Very high concentrations of iron ore.

Hasn't changed much since '61

Emeritus.

Dora-9 24th Dec 2011 06:41

Also the bluest water ever!

Open House then.

asw28-866 24th Dec 2011 06:51

Thank you emeritus and dora-9, doing the hard work for me! I shall be taking a repair crew out there tomorrow and staying overnight for the Christmas Bash, it's a hard life!

Don't know if this would be considered easy or not, but here goes:

On a Caribbean Island maybe?

SGC

JSCL 24th Dec 2011 15:55

On a Caribbean Island maybe?
Negative. T'other side.

nvubu 24th Dec 2011 18:17

I've just finished going through What Aerodrome Mk I & II and have only managed to identify 4 out of all the locations posted from the first image posted, so I'm a bit hesitant to identify this location as: San Fernando Airport, San Fernando City, Ilocos, Philippines

I'd like to say a huge thank you to all who have participated in making this a great thread to read and long may it continue.

Hope you all have a happy Christmas.

JSCL 24th Dec 2011 21:38

Indeed it is San Fernando!

nvubu 24th Dec 2011 22:15

Wow... Hope that won't be the last time I'm successful

Here's one from me - I think it is quite easy.
http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/...ps015e54be.jpg

Off to be santa now.

Russell Gulch 24th Dec 2011 23:35

I won't say the answer, but Ciao! and everyone enjoy a Merry Christmas in their local Italian Chapel if you have one nearby.

Russ

TheiC 25th Dec 2011 01:00

Lamb Holm? Open house if correct, please, and a peaceful Christmas to all...

nvubu 25th Dec 2011 06:59

Lamb Holm it is - thought it was easy. I have harder ones lined up (I think)

Open House

evansb 25th Dec 2011 13:13

Where is Cockatoo Island ?

Where is Lamb Holm ?

nvubu 25th Dec 2011 16:06

Lamb Holm is: N58°53.18 W002°53.60. Not sure if I can post a link to the source for this ref as it is another aviation website.

As it is still Open House, if no-one objects to me posting another picture, here's another location. This one is a bit older than my last effort.
http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7f867d59.jpg

Just rechecking the list - this has been half done before, but I can't see the picture used, although judging from the description of it, it wasn't this image.

Dora-9 25th Dec 2011 18:32

evansb:

Cockatoo Island is in Yampi Sound, in West Australia's north. Not to be confused with the one in Sydney Harbour! Try 16 05 46S 126 36 40E.

nvubu 26th Dec 2011 21:51

Time for a clue:

The same location, but from the other side of the road - there are two aerodromes.
http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/...ps17ca2abe.jpg

TheiC 27th Dec 2011 05:19

Croydon used to have two aerodromes separated by a public road, but...

WE992 27th Dec 2011 07:27

Cranwell has a north and south airfield with a public road running between them.

nvubu 27th Dec 2011 08:53

Not Cranwell.
Not Croydon but ...

wet wet wet 27th Dec 2011 21:51

Hamble (north and south)?

chevvron 27th Dec 2011 22:36

Looks similar to Plough Lane to me, but if it's Hamble, wasn't there a railway line somewhere?
Course Manston is another place with effectively two airfields separated by a public road; not sure about Sealand; was there a road between north and south airfields?

nvubu 28th Dec 2011 08:10

Not Hamble
Not Manston or Sealand
Plough Lane isn't an aerodrome, but a road, so if this is Plough Lane, the aerodromes would be...

My next clue would be:

Looks like a new barn in the the farm buildings

TheiC 28th Dec 2011 08:26

so if this is Plough Lane, the aerodromes would be...
Waddon and Beddington, which became Croydon..?

nvubu 28th Dec 2011 09:31

Correct - in the 2nd picture, Waddon is this side of the road and Beddington is on the far side with New Barn Farm in the middle.

TheiC has control.

Beddington opened in 1915, Waddon in January 1918, with Croydon coming into existance in 29 March 1920. Plough Lane, New Barn Farm and the hangers and offices in the centre were only demolished in 1928

TheiC 28th Dec 2011 17:05

Apologies,

In the Lake District with very limited internet, and rather like Cherie Blair without her 'contraceptive equipment' I haven't got my aerodrome equipment to hand, so open house please...

India Four Two 28th Dec 2011 22:48

I'll take advantage of the Open House. I'm sure this aerodrome has been done before, but I couldn't resist the appropriate seasonality of this picture.

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3.../IMG_1284L.jpg

I can't find any ICAO reference to the non-standard lights ;)

Here's a clue: Taken today at 0810 local. Sunrise was 0850.

nvubu 28th Dec 2011 23:10

Thought I'd google "control tower christmas lights" and top of the shop:

Edmonton City Centre Airport.

India Four Two 29th Dec 2011 04:22

nvubu,

That's the one - CYXD, Edmonton City and previously Edmonton Muni. A mere shadow of its former self, with the main runway having been ripped up and only one shortened runway left.

You have control.

nvubu 29th Dec 2011 06:29

Thank you.

Here's the next aerodrome - a nice easy one - a very big clue is right in front of you. Suprised to find that this no longer exists.

http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/...PRuNe/003A.jpg

chevvron 29th Dec 2011 09:24

Obviously not Montserrat but looks like it has the same problem!

olympus 29th Dec 2011 12:05

Seen this pic before; I think it's at Victoria Falls. Not sure if the airfield has a different name.

OH if correct.

nvubu 29th Dec 2011 14:47

It is the original Victoria Falls Airport - Sprayview Airport, sadly no more. It was called Victoria Falls for scheduled flights.

Only 2km from the falls, fantastic for the flight over the falls.

olympus has declared Open House

LFT 29th Dec 2011 15:28

Ok, try this one -
