Binalonan Airfield
That's certainly east of Suez!!!!!

jindabyne 13th Nov 2011 09:03

Certainly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Duckbutt 13th Nov 2011 10:02

Another shot of the tower:

siftydog 13th Nov 2011 15:51

Oman?.....

Duckbutt 13th Nov 2011 20:06

Not Oman.

A selection of various species of wildlife can be found not too far away from this airfield, also an extensive range of runways.

jindabyne 14th Nov 2011 08:52

Near Creech, Nevada?

spook 14th Nov 2011 09:07

Duckbutt - How cryptic! My son asked me to look at one of his school projects last week - long 'runway like' lines carved into the desert together with animal images - so he will have to take the credit if we're right - could only be Nazca Airport, Peru.

Duckbutt 14th Nov 2011 09:10

That's right Spook, it can only be Nazca Airport Peru. Well done your son, he has control!

spook 14th Nov 2011 09:38

Thanks Duckbutt. I'm afraid he's at school and I'm late for a meeting! So OPEN HOUSE please.

India Four Two 15th Nov 2011 04:43

A fancy new tower and terminal. Anticipating way more traffic than current levels.

jindabyne 15th Nov 2011 08:34

India - Was the second photo taken long before the first? It would seem (to me) that the road layout and the new terminal were not there in the second?

India Four Two 15th Nov 2011 08:50

Jindabyne,

No, the second photo was taken at the railing behind the people in the first photo. Both photos are taken from the elevated Departures level.

jindabyne 15th Nov 2011 09:13

In that case - Lien Khuong, Vietnam?

India Four Two 15th Nov 2011 15:14

Jindabyne,
I'm impressed, how did you figure it out so quickly?

Lien Khuong International Airport, VVDL, DLI. The airport that serves Da Lat, 40km up the road in the mountains.

I was there two weekends ago for the first time in 14 years and was shocked. Previously it was a day-VFR-only airport with a 1950s terminal and turboprop service and now it has this amazing terminal and tower, and jet service.

You have control.

jindabyne 15th Nov 2011 16:48

India,

Your Location (VTTS) told me that you're in Vietnam; the lady in the first piccie looked as though she might be from that neck of the world; and you told us it was a new tower and terminal. So a Google search of new airports in Vietnam, with a yellow terminal roof - and Bob's etc etc.

Noyade 18th Nov 2011 10:06

Turns out we've had this before, in 2008. Looks like this aerodrome was renamed Aston Down in 1938...:(

WE992 18th Nov 2011 19:43

Still.... its a great photo, thanks for posting it.

Noyade 18th Nov 2011 20:20

Not a problem. They're SE5a aircraft of No.6 (Training) Squadron at AFC airfield of Minchinghampton. That was the intended challenge name I was after, but google says it was later called Aston Down. The Australian War Memorial dates the photo as 1919 but here it's 1917...?...

Mr_Grubby 20th Nov 2011 15:13

Looks very rural.

England ?

C.

sabredog 20th Nov 2011 16:24

Very much so,Mr. Grubby. In fact, one might say the Garden of England!

spook 20th Nov 2011 16:36

...in which case home of the then Kent Flying Club..In the middle of nowhere there is Aerodrome Rd, De Havillands and Lysander Close. Bekesbourne, RFC & RAF Aerodrome?

sabredog 20th Nov 2011 21:34

Correct,Spook, in every detail.
You have control.

spook 20th Nov 2011 22:03

Thank you Sabredog. I'm afraid it's going to have to be Open House.

Fournierf5 21st Nov 2011 23:26

Apologies, a slightly fraudulent entry here inasmuch as I haven't a clue where this is, or the year or whether that really could be a shedload of Shackletons in the foreground . . . . but it's possibly a few minutes' entertainment for someone and I have an acquaintance very keen to find out as well!

http://i1095.photobucket.com/albums/...g?t=1321921364

India Four Two 22nd Nov 2011 04:12

Lajes, Azores. Those "Shacks" are probably B-24s.

OH if correct.

TheChitterneFlyer 22nd Nov 2011 06:22

I'd agree with India Four Two... Shackleton's were frequent visitors to Lajes but probably not in such large numbers!
