Air Cadets so more likely Perranporth.

Asturias56 8th May 2021 08:23

OUAQUKGF Ops has it with Predanack - oddly only 25 kms from Flushing (see previous challenge..) I think 626 Gliding Squadron use Pendannack Chevron

Interesting challenge Asturias. Looked pretty dreary in first image. The airmen depicted were from 304 (Polish) Squadron Coastal Command. An excellent book to read is ' No Place to Land ' by J.F. Jaworzyn of 304 Squadron .(pub William Kimber 1984).

An Arena for The Flying Circus.......

My first thought was Rendcomb, but it looks a bit hilly for that.

chevvron 8th May 2021 11:55

More like Luxters Farm near Henley; you take off dowhill and land uphill.

Pendannack?
I'm a bit out of touch with which VGS are still operating; the three to which I used to supply cadets from Herts and Bucks Wing ATC (612 Abingdon, 613 Halton and 616 Henlow) have all been disbanded so there is a massive 'void' stretching from Oxfordshire through Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire to Bedfordshire.

descol 8th May 2021 12:38

are we in the UK ?

Asturias56 8th May 2021 13:04

"Looked pretty dreary in first image." - Cornwall on a wet winters day............. wonderful!

Chevron - 626 have a fairly active Face book page - looks like they have quite a good time.

As to the challenge that hill look a bit high for Henley - I'd suggest it's further west in the Vale of the White Horse maybe?

Beautiful country-side - certainly in the United Kingdom....keep on searching......

An early visitor.

descol 8th May 2021 14:54

how's about Cirencester ?

OUAQUKGF Ops 8th May 2021 15:38

Cirencester a charming town but not the right location.

This Artist celebrated The Green Green Grass of Home - In their confusion Women sometimes threw Undies at him........

Asturias56 9th May 2021 07:15

Well thats Tom Jones I think which takes us to Pontypridd - but I don't think there was ever an airfield there so maybe Glamorgan?

Might be Llandow by the scenery but that only opened in 1940. Pengham Moors is the right age but the scenery doesn't look right...............

OUAQUKGF Ops 9th May 2021 08:11

Tom Jones - a common name in Wales....... You are in the right country but you need to broaden your canvas to find him in the town where the 'aerodrome' is.

And no, his clothing is not from Carnaby Street but of the period. You might find paint on his fingers.

OUAQUKGF Ops 9th May 2021 09:00

Final clue: Christian Name not shortened..............

Asturias56 9th May 2021 09:05

Ahhh - Thomas Jones of Pencerrig, Llanelwedd in Powys in the late 18th Century

It's not Builth Wells as I can't find any pictures (or even a precise location) but it look like Llandrindod Wells just up the road to me

OUAQUKGF Ops 9th May 2021 09:37

Llandridnod Wells it is. Not much to the aerodrome as you will see. You got there in the end Asturias well done! Incidentally Descol you had me worried when you picked up Hamel at Cirencester I thought you had rumbled me.

Tom Norton's Automobile Palace. It is not known if he ever sold any aeroplanes but he appeared to show an interest in the sale of Kronfeld Drones.

Alas this enterprise came to nothing. It is thought that the aerodrome closed towards the end of the 1930s. Photo credit County Times.

It is all yours Asturias.
