I'll have the engine, you can have the wheels.

Newtownards?

Asturias56 5th Nov 2020 15:37

That picture looks weird to me - almost as if it has come from a Computer game/programme..................

Self loading bear 5th Nov 2020 16:32

It is the title photo of a YouTube film.

Not Newtownards
Not an island but in Europe

chevvron 6th Nov 2020 09:51

Lagos, Portugal?

Self loading bear 6th Nov 2020 18:03

Not Lagos Portugal.
I think it is time to further clarify the clue that I stayed in line with the thread drift about opencast mining.
Within a few years this airfield will be history.

Germany has a fair amount of open cast mining.

Morschenich

Self loading bear 7th Nov 2020 10:13

Morsenich it is.
The village and the strip lay in the projected area to be mined.
Neu-Morshenich is already built to the south Of the Autobahn strasse but the mining company has postponed to demolish the village.

nvubu has te lead.

nvubu 7th Nov 2020 10:34

Thank you. There seem to be quite a few airfields built close to the open cast mines in Germany.

Here is the next challenge

JENKINS 7th Nov 2020 10:45

Subsidiary runway at a Royal Air Force training station in the late 1960's. Some of those marks on runway look very familiar.

Just fishing!

nvubu 7th Nov 2020 10:48

Fish away - not an RAF airfield.

American road billboard?

Asturias56 7th Nov 2020 17:03

Lets see - old photos - well probably over 40 years old.

Second photo show traffic driving one the right so not one of those shown here https://www.rhinocarhire.com/Drive-S...-or-Right.aspx

Interestingly looks like an advertising hoarding - so unlikely to be in a Peoples Democracy

Lot of tire marks so a training airfield?

I'll punt on the USA?

nvubu 7th Nov 2020 18:07

The punt on the USA is correct.
Not a training airfield.
I'm fairly sure it isn't a railroad billboard.

Asturias56 8th Nov 2020 07:33

Railroad? RAILROAD?? Who mentioned railroad?

Unless the strip nearest to us in photo 2 is a railroad??
