The lack of a gun button on the spade grip might make you guess an unarmed trainer, but then the Hawker style control column just might have raised the suggestion of a Gloster built aeroplane, leading to thoughts of...well done cringe, it's the E28/39.

(I must admit I cropped the photo to remove most of the windscreen as it was a bit of a give away!)

cringe 29th Nov 2005 14:07

Yup, the spade grip was the main clue.

brickhistory, you can go next.

brickhistory 29th Nov 2005 14:12

Thank you, cringe. Let's see how this goes...

Is it the rear cocpit of a Meteor NF 11 ??

Clint.

brickhistory 29th Nov 2005 17:42

Nope, it is not a Meteor.

682al 29th Nov 2005 18:40

Is it a CF100 Canuck? Rear cockpit I would imagine.

brickhistory 29th Nov 2005 18:47

Yes it is. I always thought it was a neat interceptor for its day.

682al 29th Nov 2005 18:58

Yes, and a very American-style cockpit which caused me to consider all the alternatives first!

If anyone else fancies posting a cockpit, please go ahead and take my turn.

henry crun 29th Nov 2005 19:33

As an aside Mr_Grubby, the rear cockpit of the NF11 did not have a stick or anywhere near as many flight instruments.

Mr_Grubby 29th Nov 2005 19:50

Thanks henry,
It was a stab in the dark. I was fishing for clues.
Meteor was a bit before my time. But my dad told me about them.

Must admit after the discussion regarding Gloster's preference for the Spade Control column I was hesitant to suggest Meteor NF14 and thought it was possibly F94 Starfire. It just shows how wrong one can be. However this is a very good thread please let us keep it going. So that I do not repeat the challenges previously submitted I have listed all those to date. I will admit that previously I had repeated a couple. I am always willing to learn and share the information.

682al,

I'll take up your offer, while all the UK experts are asleep. I've been trying to make a correct guess for a while, but for the few cockpits I knew, I was beaten to it and for the vast majority, I hadn't a clue!

So, what's this?

"Meteor was a bit before my time. "

I wish it was before mine :{ :{ :{

Convair 580 Water Bomber? Edited. That's wrong - I know it!

Genghis the Engineer 30th Nov 2005 08:22

By the way, I spent the day yesterday at the RAF Museum at Cosford (actually I spent most of it at a conference in one of the-side rooms and didn't get to see any aeroplanes, but never mind).

Mooching around the shop between lectures, I spotted a rather nice "cockpits of RAF Cosford" calendar, which I decided can adorn my office wall next year.

Historic cockpits covered are:-

January - Hawker Hind
February - PBY6
March- C47
April - Mosquito
May - Hastings
June - F86
July - Victor K2
August - Belfast
September - TSR2
October - HS780
November - Jetstream
December - Bulldog.

Should make for a nice talking point anyhow. Sadly I can only boast four of those in my logbook (one as a pilot & FTE, three as FTE only), how many can anybody else offer?

India Four Two 30th Nov 2005 17:53

sycamore 30th Nov 2005 19:44

Aeritalia/Fiat G222 perhaps ?

JDK 30th Nov 2005 20:32

It's a fake view attached to the cockpit of one of Flying Tankers' Martin Mars, isn't it...

Saab Dastard 30th Nov 2005 21:59

Antonov AN-26 by any chance?

Or a Beriev BE-30

How about a CASA C.212 Aviocar?

Possibly a Dassault Falcon 20?

Maybe a HP / BAE Jetstream?

Transall C 160?

OK, I give up :{
