Bristol Bulldog?

Saab Dastard 1st Dec 2005 23:29

It's not a Fairey Swordfish, is it?

JDK 2nd Dec 2005 03:30

No, no and no. :)

Remember, I am asking for the exact name...

ORAC 2nd Dec 2005 06:27

Fairey Fantome?

MReyn24050 2nd Dec 2005 07:02

Hawker Audax perhaps

JDK 2nd Dec 2005 07:30

No and, um, no.

It's a photo taken when the type was entering service (this one in a pre-war Dominion air force...) and there's only a couple left worldwide.

FJJP 2nd Dec 2005 07:38

Flying or static?

MReyn24050 2nd Dec 2005 07:53

Got to be the Hawker Hart.
A Finnish Air Force Hart B4 is held in the Swedish Airforce Museum. Hawker Hart II GAMBR (J9941) along with a Hart Trainer K4972 is held in the RAF Museum at Hendon.

ORAC 2nd Dec 2005 08:03

Westland Wapiti

JDK 2nd Dec 2005 08:11

FJJP - No fliers right now, at least two static to my knowledge (but who knows in the future?).

Mreyn; commendable certitude. But wrong I'm afraid. Never thought of Finland as a Dominion either... ;)

ORAC, sorry, no.

MReyn24050 2nd Dec 2005 08:11

Having submitted it and re-read your comments I agree and come to think of it Finland is a bit cold for a dominian too. However I thought ORAC had hit the right aircraft

Argonautical 2nd Dec 2005 08:17

Is it a Hawker Nimrod ?

MReyn24050 2nd Dec 2005 08:31

Comparing this panel with the Wapiti's Panel they are very similar and the control joke is also similar. I will say that if it is not a Wapiti then it must be the Westland Wallace. One of which is also in the RAF Museum.

JDK 2nd Dec 2005 08:41

Nope, not a Wallace, nor a Wapiti, nor a Nimrod. The control yoke is, indeed, similar - but then they all were then, weren't they?

But it IS a fighter.

682al 2nd Dec 2005 08:48

But it IS a fighter.
....so it must be a Demon for Aus?

JDK 2nd Dec 2005 08:57

Good man. 682al's go!

RAAF Demon cockpit from the RAAF Museum's archive (my poor copy).

The problem with the Hawker Hart and Fury family is that the two seaters were all so similar, hence I insisted on something precise, and the Demon was, IIRC, the only one with two forward firing machine guns, which is kind of discernible from the photo. (OK, I admit it was a mean one - sorry!)

There's a complete Demon on display at the RAAF Museum, and another recently restored by Skysport, due to fly I believe. There are a few other fuselage frame restorations ongoing in NZ and Aus, but don't hold your breath.

Cheers!
