What Cockpit ?
Can anyone identify this cockpit ?
I think it's a twin. Clint. http://www.btinternet.com/~simon.gur...or_Clinton.jpg |
It's the new 1930's retro fit for the A320.. :)
|
With all that glazing might be an IL-12 or 14? Top me head...
|
Modern IFR suite including a GPS in the centre. WWII appearance otherwise, and twin throttles would suggest DC3 type aeroplane. Very curved superstructure around the glazing, and gut feeling that its a taildragger. Lower glazing unusual.
My guess is that it is a: http://www.imcat.com/images/alaska/CD2_C46_10.jpg C46 Commando. PS http://www.rcgroups.com/articles/ezo...46-cockpit.jpg Now I am sure it is!:ok: |
Ooh, good spot TM! This could be a good new competition!
|
My turn then:O
Whats this one folks? http://www.artistic.flyer.co.uk/nocheating.jpg You can cheat if you give up with right click and "properties", but that just wouldnt be british now would it? AL1 New pic, same cab, no clues |
Without cheating I was going to suggest a Catalina... but now I'm angling towards Mosquito?
|
Anson?
Fifteen more characters. |
The glazed nose and wooden trim certainly suggests Mosquito
|
Tiger mate.
Re: C46 Thanks very much. You won me a pint !! Clint. |
My shot at #2 is Bolingbroke [Blenhiem IV].
G'day ;) |
Tiger Mate, bit tricky as the pic won't load so can you give me a vowel? :)
|
Can I change my answer?
It's obviously a Nocheating. |
Taken through the entrance door of a Mosquito at the Mosquito Air Museum, I reckon that its over to: treadigraph for the next one.
Well done CoodaShooda, but treaders got there first. I can see this thread getting >very< difficult very soon. |
|
Oh, good guess...
Bu@@er, can't see BEagle's (is it a Pup or a Basset - or a Vulcan!) - I'll be able to when I get home. In the meantime I'll suss out a pic that's somewhere in my archive. |
P-38 J model ????
BS |
Hmmm, don't think it's a P-38 (first oneI thought of too) 'cos the control column comes out otf the floor in those...
Vulcan - nope - joystick instead of a yoke Grumman f7f Tigercat? |
The Mosquito wasn't too hard, I've taken that exact same photograph recently. No clue about BEagle's photo though. It suggests something military and not too old, but I truly don't know.
|
Wrong fuselage colour for Tigercat, which would be dark blue US Navy.
|
BEagle.
Is it a Beaufighter. Peter. |
Nope.
It was American, had 2 engines, but no props! Not still flying. |
F-101A?
|
Nope!
Construction was approved in 1949. |
With all those engine instruments a B47 Stratojet or B58 Hustler?
The Hustler was launched in 1949 |
Neither, sorry!
As I said, it had but 2 engines. Whereas the B-47 had 6 and the B-58 had 4! |
He shoots...............he Scores:
http://www.wpafb.af.mil/museum/modern_flight/x3cp.jpg Douglas X-3 Stiletto http://www.eichhorn.ws/assets/images...3_stiletto.jpg |
One of the words in your answer was correct, Mike. But not one of the types you mention!
A clue - think B over A ! Edit- Well done, tiger_mate! |
Try this one:http://www.artistic.flyer.co.uk/dontcheat.jpg

Douglas A-20 family. (Boston / Havoc)
But it doesn't have the armoured glass. S'funny I was cleaning one a month ago. ;) |
It's the Douglas A-20G in the USAF Museum, Dayton, Ohio.
It's a photo from 'Cockpit' by Donald Nijboer - his photogaphic style is very distinctive, so I went and check my copy! The armoured glass normally fitted on most of the types (USAF A-20G, Australian Bostons, RAF Bostons) is missing here, though the upper attachement is visible. It's not a minor thing, being a lump of four or five laminates of thick glass! It's also missing the Douglas badge ("Douglas, First around the world") from the centre of the control wheel. I admit to having been undertaking intensive study on the type, ;) and sitting in the pilot's seat to clean the windows of the RAAF Museum's Boston 'Jessica'. :D Brave men. |
Doh........thought that one would last a little longer. Well done, over to you :ok:
|
:p I admit to probably being the most recent occupant of a Boston cockpit worldwide - real inside knowledge! ;)
OK, here's a pic of 'Jessica's' cockpit as a comparison. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...tonCockpit.jpg The quiz is a two seat trainer under restoration. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7.../Mystery01.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7.../Mystery02.jpg I took the photos only a few weeks ago, and it's due to fly in December (probably...) It's rare - very rare. It's serial numbers are in single digits. The panels, though missing instruments are complete enough to give clues as to the country of origin, and are all correct, I'm told, apart from the 'g-meter' and modern radio which are modern additions. On the lower right, there's a little lever in a slot which reads 'Autoslots - Open - Free'. That's enough clues, and it's meant to be hard. :E |
CAC Wackett trainer?
|
Right area,
Wrong type. :D This is rarer than a Wackett... |
Avro type 643 Cadet A6-32?
|
BEagle,
One of your clever clogs isn't. :p You can have a point for correctly identifying the type (well done! your go! ) but for being a smart alec, you have to get the serial number right now: I said "single digits" so it's A6-? |
Well done Beags, but as you hijacked treadigraph
yesterday, it should be his go now :O |
Give me a few minutes and I'll see if I can find the pic of... but that would spoil the surprise...
Right here you go... http://www.tpsconsult.co.uk/dump/images/cockpit.jpg I'll try to look in again before I go to the pub after work - thereafter I might be a bit squiffy... |
Sorry, JDK, it must be the other one! A 6-8?
