Wrong side of the country. You need to go east.

Looks like a Fly In Community. Not one I'm familiar with. Maybe Wellington west of W. Palm Beach.

OK, Clint - let's try this then:

Mitchel Field, AKA Mitchel Air Force Base, Long Island, New York.

Your "politico" hint didn't help me because I always thought it was named for Billy Mitchell (two Ls), but find it was for John Mitchel (one L), a former mayor of New York City - learn something every day.

Cheers,

Tom

Hey Tom !!!!

We got there in the end !

Mitchel Air Force Base also known as Mitchel Field, was a United States Air Force base located on the Hempstead Plains of Long Island, New York, USA.

Established in 1918 as Hazelhurst Aviation Field No. 2, the facility was renamed Mitchel Field in honor of former New York City Mayor, John Purroy Mitchel who was killed while training for the Air Service.

He died thirteen days short of his thirty-ninth birthday, in a training accident in Louisiana, on July 6, 1918. Mitchel fell out of his aircraft at 500 feet and plummeted to the ground, dying instantly. It was thought that he had forgotten to fasten his seat belt.

Silly boy, that can seriously ruin your day.

The museum is the Cradle of Flight Museum.

Over to you,

Clint.

Krakatoa has it ! Yes, it's Sola, technically Sola Sjøflyhavn, the seaplane base located north of the main airport on the Harfrsfjord. Two JN-52s, LN-DAF and LN-DAH are shown, taken about 1937. There's a nice museum just ashore there in one of the old military hangars.

Take it away Krakatoa !

Cheers,

Tom
