This reminds me of the other threads on pprune where we have an endless debate about hand flying versus automatics.

Have we now reached the point that if it cannot still be found on Google Earth, then we are back to the knackered old sods like me who still have a memory!

leader 3.

not Iraq but ....??

JW411.

This "aerodrome" as it was when this picture was taken is now an International Airport. The site dates back to 1736 when a naval base was built there. You can Google it on Earth if that floats your boat !!

Tack.

Thanks Dave & Flight.

Here's one - the type may give it away.

Cheers,

DH, I think I must give it to you - even though I'm pretty sure the pix is actually taken at Værnes, where Saab Safari training for RNoAF took place before they moved it to Bardufoss ca. 2002-2003.

Not Risalpur, Mr. Ripley, but that's a very reasoned guess as well. But these are not MFI-17 Mushshaks as built under licence in Pakistan.

So DH, the con is yours.

Cheers,

Tom

DH.

Wow !! that was quick.
In post #2266 Descol asked what was the quickest time to answer and be right.

Your 4 minutes must be one of the fastest.

Very observant, Flap40. Indeed, it is ENVA, Værnes, just outside Trondheim.

But, we'll give it to DH for the effort and close connection, eh?

Cheers all,

Tom

Thanks Trolltuner, but since it wasn't quite where I said it was, I think it would only be fair to make it OPEN HOUSE.

Cheers, DH

OK, here's another then. Sad event - if you recognize the seaplane, you may know where this was.

Cheers,

Tom

Well, DNL wrote off all 3 of their first batch of Sandringhams but one flew into a mountain so this is either

Trondheim LN-IAW 2/10/48 19 fatalities or
Harstad LN-IAU 15/5/50 no fatalities

I ll go for Trondheim on the basis of the extent of the damage and the "sad event" comment.

BAC has it! (Why do I call one11 that??). Landing accident in the harbour at Trondheim-Hommelvik in 1948. Of 45, 19 perished - Bertram Russell was amongst the survivors.

OK, one11 has the con !

Cheers,

Tom
