Presume you're at work now or are the lines fixed?
Yes. Line should be fixed by 1700.

The reason I said it doesn't look like a Cub is because of those unmistakable square wingtips.

Yeah, I was thinking from the side, but as you say the wings are all wrong.

Off line for a while now...should be back at 1200.

Are we looking at an American aeroplane with a non-American engine?

Close...an American aircraft with an American engine.

Clues
- the aircraft is a homebuilt and uses components from a well known mass produced American light aircraft.
- the only photo I have found on the net is a modified version which has no scoops and the tail is totally different.
- the 3 view was taken from the net

Got to pop out for a while...back later.

It strikes me that this machine could be fitted with more than one type of engine - possibly both air and water cooled.

Would those parts be from a Piper PA22/20?

Afternoon

more than one type of engine
As far as I can see the plans were only for a specific engine from one manufacturer. The engine would have been, and probably still is, pretty common in cars, not just in North America. I don't have detail regarding cooling systems.

Would those parts be from a Piper PA22/20?
Well spotted....a PA-22 to be precise.

For info have now found a photo on the net of one of these aircraft which is similar to the 3-view but without the scoops.

Not that I can see LM, but being a homebuilt its quite possible somebody would have done.

I should stress that plans for this aircraft are available today....the photo I had just found was of an aircraft registered in 2003.

Thanks.

I've found so much stuff I could now build one myself. The trouble is that I can't match all the features. I have been working ignoring the "scoops".

(don't like wot's amounting to a smelly red fish).

You don't surf the net do you. You wade through it chest high in mud!!

From the various articles on it, including a fairly comprehensive one, it seems that people have adapted the plans somewhat, hence the modified tail on one, and the removal of the scoops on both the aircraft I have found photo's of. The common factors are the PA-22 parts, and the engine.

To confuse the issue further the aircraft is known by two different names....I'll accept either. It is in Aerofiles, albeit without a lot of information.

I'm just having a coffee, but it sounds like LM needs something a little stronger!!

Is it anything to do with Dave Blanton and the Javelin V6 STOL ?? (AKA as the Defunky Cub)

It is in Aerofiles but short on info and no pictures, I have found a photo and sure enough the Tail is different, but so is the cowl and it has spats, so I doubt if it's correct. It also reads as though it's now defunct, but maybe the plans are still about!
