Thank you Mel.

In haste a scappy outline of an unusual machine... Apologies up front but the important details are there. I'm looking for the designer and the country of origin.

RR

Just in case there is any doubt:
Single-engined, contra-rotors, early 1960s, was built and flown - at least tethered.

Wapitis

Mel,

The second photo you showed is an Australian machine. Is that correct?

You are quite correct it was one of 28 Wapiti IAs sold to the Royal Australian Air Force. The change in designation signified the embodiment of a number of modifications: including a new divided axle main undercarriage in which each wheel was carried on a stub-axle on a triangulasted structure, increased wing stagger and the use of a geared 480 hp Jupitoer VIII engine.

No, the aircraft in the photograph used for the challenge belonged to 603 (City of Edinburgh) (Bomber) Squadron not the aircraft shown in Post #4545.
Sorry for the confusion.

I saw RR's heli-thing many moons ago. In popular Mechanics, I think, but can't remember much about it. French?

Well boys, no bites? Unfortunately the information on this machine is scant -almost non-existent and so I have little more to offer you. It was home-built and had a 225hp Lycoming engine.....

early 1960s
Morning RR. I picked 1962 as a rough guess for the year and looked at a lot of choppers. What surprised me was how advanced they were at this time so your image just didn't fit the grade. The 'Homebuilt' tag makes sense and it looks it. I'm thinking American and it didn't fly as such so history has forgotten it? Would I find it in Aerofiles?

Morning mate, morning everyone!!! I think it would be hard to find, honestly. Not in Aerofiles, I don't think. Not American. Therefore my clue is that it is featured in Air Pictorial in the early 1960s.

Okay...Was it a backyard job by a "nobody" or did the person/firm produce anything else of significance? It reminds me of the HC-2 Heli-baby, just a little. How about a disgruntled sacked Czech CZA engineer who thought he could improve on the design with a co-axial arrangement?
Jane's sometimes included weird and wacky projects...I just need a year...
